I am seeing lower GPU usage, around 60-70% from close to 100% that was before, resulting in significantly lower performance. CPU usage is also around 20 % only.
CPU Brand: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor
Driver: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
Please put more focus on the issues with AMD gpu testing during patch creation. Every other patch seems to be a significant step back for the 30% of the gaming population that didn’t chose nvidia.
I concur. I seem to get left behind after every update, to the point where the game is performing so poorly on the current patch that it’s borderline unplayable on my AMD hardware. I have to adjust settings down as far as possible and run the game at lower than 1080 resolution just to get to a point where it’s kind of playable. I don’t have to do this with any other game, I can run things like Helldivers 2, Street Fighter 6, Baldur’s Gate 3, all at maximum settings with no issues at 2k. Darktide itself very much seems to be the issue.
Averaging 5 fps with a 4080 and ryzen 9 3900x, even tried the game without any mods and it was actually worse fps, messed around with settings to no avail. Ill maybe top at 60 fps if im alone looking at a non descript wall but any other time ill drop to 5 fps for multiple seconds. Tried settings low, medium and high. Before this patch i averaged over 100 fps, its unplayable, ive reinstalled, verified files, deleted my fatshark folder in the appdata folder and nothing has changed
Same here: Intel i9, 12900K not overclocked, DDR5 6000, RTX 3080. Prior to the update, I was getting an unsatisfactory 140 - 180 FPS, but the game was playable. Now I’m lucky to get 120 - 140 FPS with stuttering. Most games I can set the FPS to 280 without any issues and obtain that rate. Some games won’t let you set a reasonable framerate and I can get over 400 FPS without tearing. This happens frequently when there is an open space and a hoard of enemies. I’ve gotten killed twice because the game “burped” during a fight and a few seconds later, I needed to be rescued. The FPS at that moment drops down to 40. The update has been a very frustrating experience for me.
What’s strange is that, at first, I had no issues at all from the update. Then, out of the blue, a couple days ago, the game would load fine, then within a minute, I’d be hitting 1 fps. I never had any issues before this… and it’s 1 fps, then a few frames fine, then 1 fps.
Also, I get an error code 3013 from the servers. This is after verifying the integrity of files, reinstall, updating graphics drivers, and I don’t have any mods.
DLLS and frame generation are not working correctly. When I use frame generation I get ghosting and stuttering. I also get stuttering with DLSS and max performance mode makes no difference. Ray tracing is poorly optimised and this game is poorly optimised . The performance of the game is miserable. I can run other games on higher settings at 1080p. Frame generation, dlss and ray tracing works on other games with no issues.
I really like this game but Im very disappointed with the ongoing performance problems. This is so frustrating. Fatshark needs to focus on fixing the performance and optimisation issues before adding more content. If these problems are fixed it will give everyone a better experience and we wouldn’t be complaining all the time. I have been patient for a long time. I know Im complaining a lot but this isn’t good enough. Please listen to us and take some responsibility!
Update: I have downloaded the beta and there has been a huge improvement. Thank you!
Fatshark could do both but they don’t seem to have the capacity to even version-control their own game properly despite having ‘two floors’ for the Darktide team.
A specific start-up crash that presents after the shader cache has been built NOTE: With this issue only, it is not necessary to perform the steps outlined in ‘Part 2’ or ‘Part 3’
Part 1: How Do I Switch to The Experimental Build?
Open the Steam client
Right-click Darktide in your Steam library
Select ‘Properties’
Select ‘Betas’
Enter the password cTYPtKTsfMDsLHAV
Select ‘Check Code’
Select the ‘None’ dropdown, and experimental - Experimental Builds should now be within the list
Select experimental - Experimental Builds
Close the pop-up window
A download should now start
Part 2: Setting Feature Flags
Navigate to your Darktide AppData by:
Press the Windows key + R
Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide
Open the user_settings.config
At the VERY TOP of the user_settings.config, enter the lines below:
NOTE: If you currently have disable_dstorage = true in your user_settings.config from previous instructions, please remove it and replace with the updated version above.
Part 3: Didn’t Work?
In the event the instructions above did not help with your issue, please try:
Navigate to your Darktide AppData by:
Press the Windows key + R
Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide
Open the user_settings.config
Remove the changes made previously
At the VERY TOP of the user_settings.config, enter the line below:
direct_storage = {
enabled = false
}
Save your changes
Play!
Post here to let us know the outcome
NOTE: If you currently have disable_dstorage = true in your user_settings.config from previous instructions, please remove it and replace with the updated version above.
What Does the Experimental Build Include?
The ability to experiment with direct storage options in the user_settings.config, which are suspected to be causing a number of issues
Improved error reporting, including stall warnings to help us identify newly introduced performance issues
Changes to our PSOs, to identify certain start-up crashes that present after the shader cache has been built
I’m running the experimental branch with the config changes posted here. I’m not getting the audio drops (or perhaps they are much less), but I’m still getting big freezes and eventual DC (with various error codes). I’ve got a video showing what game play is like with the stutters. I can post it here if it’s helpful.
I have tried the new beta with the config file changes. The very constant micro stutters aren’t happening anymore and it is smoother. Im still getting performance problems and I think it is related to ray tracing. Frame generation is still causing the UI to ghost. I will try ray tracing off and I will update you
I have no more stutters, it is smooth, but i still have fps drop issue.
As many AMD users, i also have performance issue since driver 23.12.1 (it is better with 23.11.1)
A lot of drop to 60-70 fps…
I play in 1440p , Extreme, no ray tracing, no direct storage.
Thanks for noticing. Its really bad general performance on xbox. I hope it gets addressed coz console seems to get neglected compared to pc. And a few ppl i have come accross have quit the game as they cant deal with how bad its gotten since the redemption update
I have played without ray tracing. The performance is way better. I am playing at 1080p high settings with dlss quality and frame generation. I only experienced the fps drop once
