FatShark has been less than transparent when it comes to telling us what “customization” really means, we’ve had enough evidence from trailers that they intended at one point or another for weapons we owned to be modular. meaning parts on the could be exchanged, for example-
the Kantrael lasguns having good ol’ iron sights. they implied and promised multiple times we’d get this as a feature, but now i can only change the skin of my weapon, and upgrade its perks (upgrading doesnt even add to its stats, btw) and even that version where its basically a hold-over from vermintide 1 and 2 isnt even fully implemented. fatshark has mentioned they couldnt deliver on the weapon customization they wanted. so theyre holding off in releasing anything until their new system is done, and let me tell you FatShark.
it had better inculde modular weapon parts like you showed us multiple times
We know from Hedge CM that we aren’t getting anything like this. All we are getting is basically re-roll/re-apply stats to our guns. Very disappointing imho but the devs don’t want it in the game. Doesn’t matter if players want it, the “devs vision” (of a boring game with no players) is more important.
thats terrible. ffs they even showed us they could do it. we’re not even asking for a fully fleshed out system, just let us pick some scopes or none at all and stick with irons if we wanna. getting all the weapons parts you like to make the gun fit your playstyle would be a m a z i n g for the longevity of the game. think about it, get enough plasteel and diamantine to curate the stats of your weapon parts- and by extension its perks and zoom? heck they already have every stat neatly compartmentalized in the code to make building around something like a modular system and player stat manipulation a cake walk. they literally built the infrastructure and are choosing not to use it
“it doesn’t fit the game” according to them. It’s nonsense. They don’t want people having fun making their own stuff because they they won’t need to buy their overpriced mtx nonsense imho.
my feelings aside. they’ve literally showed us theyve put in the work for this to be in the game, and habe also demonstrated its 100% possible to do it. to the point that were comfortable enough for that footage to be in a trailer. i dont mean to scare their precious investors here. but isnt that false advertising?
think about it for a second:
ironsights? rendered for very clear use, ready to go
in the game? yes, literally the ’ Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - Official Gameplay Trailer ’
weapon stat infrastructure? absolutely, only thing missing are the tools and menu’s to manipulate those stats according to the players wishes
OH, and edit. let me not even get started that particular trailer was when they projected their release date for 2021!
meaning, they delayed a game to bloody remove features rather than add them. ffs Fatshark
During the time between the closed and open DT beta I went back and played Necromunda Hired Gun again.
Don’t get me wrong, that game has some janky stuff going on. But the weapon modding and customization is AWESOME and fun to tinker with. Or go look at what Payday 2 has done with weapon modding. Hell, even the battlefield games have more options for modding weapons than this!
DARKTIDE missed a HUGE opportunity for sustaining player interest by not having a weapon modding loop tied into the gameplay. All they needed to do was attach different buffs/blessings to different weapon mods, and for ranged weapons let people customize their scopes and accessories.
heck, they could have even made it with Hadron where you get a selection of one of every gun depending on your level, and the more inquisitorial clearance you get- the more the weapons are “adjusted” to you, like how weapons in RPG games are sometimes where the sword levels up with the player in different ways. that would have made the lasgun you had be more special- because after it was issued to you it was your lasgun. it was your property as part of the inquisition. so much missed potential
DRG: customisable everything. Clean UI, transparent stats, cool upgrades. The smoothest experience. It doesn’t have a shooting range though.
Fatshark bothered to copy the random missions terminal that doesn’t fit their game but ignored the deeply satisfying and smooth customisation mechanics. ...
Edit: They almost had something similar in the Winds of magic DLC where you upgraded a weapon to unlock points which you could invest in perks.
alternatively: “We promised it but have to finish this unfinished live service. Cut it. Rerolling it is! And we’ll excuse everything via “not fitting the game/setting!” I mean, they won’t get the weapons they want in the store anyway, and they can’t craft them either… because it doesn’t fit the setting! nudge nudge, wink wink”
I’ve seen lots of people use some sort of mod to get a really nice weapon ramge in DRG, but I haven’t tried it out myself. Would still be great to have a weapons range on the rig though. One of the best things about Darktide is the meat grinder imo, and its not even perfect.
This reply is why I will not spend a single dime in their MTX store until they introduce at least some of the QoL features often proposed on these Forums and reconsider their decison on Weapons Customisation.
What’s more shocking is that Dark Heresy and Darktide both align closely in basic premise (ordinary people working for an inquisitor to deal with some major issue somewhere), but, well, here we are.
