Crash - On Launch
Issue Description (Required):
*Edit- Uploaded console log
I am receiving the below error when trying to launch Vermintide 2. I just purchased and have re-installed twice. Originally the game would crash upon pressing play in the launcher. I then changed the DX version from 2 to 1 and now I can launch the game main menu but as soon as I press adventure the game crashes. I’m new to the PC world so not quite familiar with all the terms. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you,

Have you tried verifying the game files via steam as well? If there´s some error with the installation process that might help.
You do so by going to steam, right click the game in your menu → properties → Installed files → Verify this game…"
…
Oh and as a fellow non-shark i cant see if you´ve done it but have you tried uploading your latest console logs? You find them by going to your disk in the explorer → user → Username ->appdata → Roaming - >fatshark → Vermintide2 - > Console logs → edit your post above and upload the latest one in there. Only a shark should have viewing rights for it.
…
Then for a real long shot in this case, it could, could be helpful to run a CMD - sfc/scannow command. Basically just open the command console, CMD, as admin by right clicking it, then entering the [ sfc/scannow ] command. It tells your PC to check for any errors in the system files. Should only take a few minutes.
Thanks for the reply,
I have verified the integrity of the files already and that came up with nothing. I just uploaded the most recent console log and ran the CMD- scannow command and it did said everything was fine.
I’ve requested for our engine developers to take a look. Though our sharks are still returning to after the holidays, so this may not get picked up immediately.
Shot in the dark, but as there are some unusual Steam client references, I recommend ensuring you have latest Steam client updates installed - just in case.
I’ll be in touch once I’ve heard back from our engine devs. Thanks for your patience.

I confirmed a couple times that my steam client is up to date. The only other game I’ve ran into issues playing was space marine 2 which uses the same anti-cheat. Maybe there’s some relationship there?
Thanks for your help, especially during the holidays.
I see - thanks for the added info! Although there aren’t the usual suspect errors pointing toward EAC, this could be the culprit.
Some general things to try -
- Try launching Vermintide 2 in Modded realm (chosen from the launcher options). EAC is only applied to Official realm, so if you can launch in Modded this would indicate an EAC-related issue
If so,
-
Ensure appropriate Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions are in place for both Vermintide 2 and Easy Anti-Cheat. You’ll need to add the following exceptions:
– vermintide2.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries
– vermintide2_dx12.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries_dx12
– EasyAntiCheat.exe in \Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat
-
Perform a ‘Selective Startup’, which disabled background applications in case something is conflicting:
- Press the Windows key
- Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
- On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
- Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
- Reboot your PC
- Launch Vermintide 2 as normal
You can then try re-enabling your applications one-by-one to determine the culprit
- Remove the Easy Anti-Cheat Certificates & Install/Repair Easy Anti-Cheat:
- Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\EasyAntiCheat
- Delete the ‘Certificates’ directory
- Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\installers\EasyAntiCheat
- Run the EasyAntiCheat_Setup installer and proceed as instructed
- Then use the ‘Verify Integrity of Game Files’ option
Please let me know how you get on!

Launching in modded mode still causes a crash at the same point. I went through your recommendations anyways and had no luck.
Hm okay, possibly not an EAC issue after all then.
I’m still waiting for our engine developers to return from holiday and get back to me. In the meantime, it could also be worth trying the following:

Hello, yesterday I did a clean install of my GPU drivers and for the first time was able to open the game and even completed a match. Upon trying to open the game today though, it would not even launch and I was left with the below warning which is different than the warning I was receiving before.

@Kibbles08 Glad to hear you were able to play after updating your GPU drivers!
Sorry to hear about the new error today. I’ve requested for one of our engine developers to take a look at this, and I’ll let you know once I hear back from them.
In the meantime, please can you try the following and let me know if the error persists:
- Restart your PC
- Verify Integrity of Game Files:
- Right-click Vermintide 2 in your Steam library sidebar
- Select ‘Properties’
- Select the ‘Local Files’ tab
- Select the ‘Verify the Integrity of Game Files’ button
- When complete, close and reopen Steam
Hello,
It seems like my chance to play 4 days ago was a fluke. I’ve been running into the same initial crash error I started this topic with since then. I even did a clean re-install of steam but that did not fix the problem. Were the engineers able to take a look at the crash log?
@Kibbles08 i see yes our engineers were able to take a look and have said they can see an issue related to Steam VOIP, and that the Windows version shown indicates you’re using Windows 8. Is that correct?
As of January 2023, Steam officially stopped support for Windows 7 and Windows 8, so we suspect the only resolution would be to upgrade your version of Windows.

Hello, No I am using Windows 11. I’m not sure why it would say Windows 8?
@Kibbles08 ah I see, strange! our engine developer asked if you have updated your OS recently from Windows 8? As the information we can see is Windows version 10.0 build 9200, 64 bit
, with 9200 being a build number for Windows 8.
It’s possible something may be off with the OS installation, so it may be worth trying a reinstall/repair of Windows OS.
Hello,
I have reinstalled windows, steam, and Vermintide 2 and am still experiencing the same problem. Googling seems to say that the windows kernel version will always say windows build 10 . Were there any other errors detected?
