People wondering why there are so many sub-par players

Calling out select groups of people in this manner doesn’t need to be considered a bad thing and I am not trying to directly insult them by bringing up issues that I personally think influences their gameplay. I am just making a mention of it, that is all.

I couldn’t imagine playing this game without headphones just like I couldn’t imagine playing this game on a handheld. I know everyone has their own preferences but this game does require a good setup to perform properly, that’s just the truth of the matter. Am I going to call someone out for performing badly in game? No. Am I going to call someone out if they perform badly and make it known they play on speakers/handheld? Probably.

That isn’t a bad thing. Constructive criticism has its places and I do know I have a bad habit of maintaining a condescending tone when speaking but that’s more of a personal issue of mine, it isn’t something against you.

This thread is absolute brainrot

The mere fact that the suggestion here is boiled down to: “People on the internet that I don’t know and don’t know me, should have invested far more money so that I can have a slightly better experience in a fairly niche coop WH40k game on a higher difficulty”.

If all the analytics boil down to “get a better PC bro”… who ever made a comment about this being a daycare is 100% spot on.

MAKE SOME FRIENDS, QUEUE WITH THEM, HAVE FUN

If you’re unable to make friends or a regular group in a game you’ve played for over a THOUSAND hours, you are the problem. Period. Full Stop.

@Cerebrophage dude, you know Cosmo is a known factor in these forums. All his threads include completely wild statements, backed up by exactly zero facts and he will spend the rest of the thread defending that people are misunderstanding him despite being provided direct quotes.

Anyways, point is, make friends, this game is so much more fun when you’re on comms with people whose company you enjoy. Even if you can’t do comms for whatever reason, it’s still more fun to play with a consistent group.

I play evening in Eastern Standard Time, I have headphones, my PC is an absolute beast. Hit me up if you’re looking for a group

You are a perfect example of everything wrong with the current mentality online - you are a victim. Everyone is a victim. Anything going against my way of thinking is “toxic”. I made the post as a NOTICE to others. There is no suggestion of “you should of invested more money”. The idea is, if you are on a steam deck playing a game that high end pc’s have trouble running, you are going to have a bad time.

If you use audio that doesn’t have proper spatial audio in a game that 100% requires spatial audio, you are going to have a bad time. You ae Cerebro come into the forums making wild accusations and assumptions, it is actually baffling how you guys get this far into your own BS.

Where in my post did I say I am unable to make friends? Where in my post did I say get a better PC? Where in my post did I say I want a better experience in my games? You are Cerebro make it extremely obvious you can’t take ANY type of criticism let alone pushback so you spew some BS about toxicity. It gets old fast. Sorry I am not the one you can get away with that on.

Hahaha yep I do agree with this :ok_hand:

It’s different in-game vs expression frustration or opinions here, just as behavior IRL is not the same as in-game behavior.

In-game I can control certain things: I can leave, we can vote-kick, I can stop going out of my way to try to rescue people from their own consistently brainless decision, I can prioritize my (and helpful teammates) ammo|survival|heals etc.

It’s not about catharsis or even venting, there’s an element of peer review, getting your opinions challenged so that you can possibly reconsider or adjust your stance, proving feedback (if anyone cares), sharing “solutions” to a certain problem and considering solution offered by others.

If others who are “problems” read these types of posts, some may at least reconsider their actions (long shot), while others may be more vocal in expressing frustrations with the “problem” (more likely).

Sometimes things take time but can build up and eventually the player base can self-correct some and exercise powers that are in their control.

E.g. You saw a backlash any time the game difficulty was adjusted and noticeably increased , all of a sudden so many of the “hur dur git gud and carry the scrubs, scrubs” went mostly silent and there was a lot more “why are these people playing at the hardest diffs while being nowhere near ready?” posts.

Same thing with people getting tired of the entitled 1 perma-smyker turrets these days, ebbs and flows with player count and makeup changing. These lead to player/community changes in behavior some times and often improves things. You know, like that knife zealot who’s perpetually 2 rooms ahead? Not risking the run to save them from their stupidity for the Nth time, if at all, is trending.

You have ZERO. 0. clue if SteamDeck is the problem here.
You have ZERO. 0. clue how widespread this “problem” is.

You culture-war BS of immediately labelling me as a “victim” is proof that you have nothing of substance to say. You can’t back up any of your claims and you fall back on basic and idiotic statements like “you should listen to audio queues”

If I look at what you post and your general demeanor in these forums. You end your ideas before any logical conclusion and then pretend “I DIDN’T SAY THAT!”. It’s such an annoying method of sea-lioning and generally being annoying.

Edit: if you search this thread, you are the only one that used the word toxic. Stop pretending being a victim

  • Cerebrophage has left the conversation.

Hit them with the carrot.

This is a very funny thread.

Steam Deck represents about 0.49% of the Steam userbase according to the September 2024 Steam Hardware Survey. That means that at peak hours, there are roughly 40-50 people playing Darktide on a Steam Deck… out of the 9000+ concurrent users.

Irrelevant. Entirely.

Heyo! So I asked a dev and they said:

We don’t do binaural decoding effects, but we use ambisonics with all ambiences in the game. The game is mixed using stereo and 5.1 surround.

We do more than basic panning, we process sounds based on height and player orientation too, and the game is mixed with this in mind (E.g. Filters that give you more focus as a player).

If using Headphones, use stereo headphones option in options, if using a surround system, use the surround options.

Simple enough! We will have a Darktide 101 dev blog on the Sound of Darktide coming out next week ™ which talks more about what it was like to create the soundscape that is Darktide.

The other issue is that with Unlocked and Loaded, there is an infux of “new” or “returning” players that have not become attuned to the mechanics of the game

I myself warm up on Atoma Heresy then Damnation before I go back on Aurics, yet been in situations where I have to clutch the forementioned players that went down (much whom are level 30 or under on Heresy or Damnation)

I’ll admit as experienced as I am, becoming the clutch player becomes very stressful. Even if I have Auric Damnation and Maelstrom experience, when it becomes dependent upon a clutch player, I empathize with the other player that has to do this, even despite if I’m a downed player.

I am glad to see new players, yet also surprised when they have not taken into consideration to learn the skills of “duck and dodge” along with all that Darktide incorporates. I know it takes time to learn, yet seen so many times when in current gameplay there is a lack of implementing development of these skills.

So much I want to say in observation, yet I feel like there are many whom are “more than casual” and hardcore gamers (especially those into WH40k, Darktide, and actually be on FS Forums) that know and see these issues occur

I don’t think you understand just how anti social the average person is… in all walks of life not just gaming.

The way this game is set up is very clever its makes it very obvious your supposed to co-operate but does not make the game impossible if you ignore the obvious hints. They give you some tools to prune really really bad people from pub games but its not too heavy handed.

The people who set this co-op system up understand their player base very well. You play a game with some people save each others ass a few times win! and move on… you dont want to become bff’s with these people lol you just need to work together to get a job done. Its that simple.

Expecting a certain level of skill and knowledge at the very top of the game is not unreasonable and imo people should not be allowed to que for auric missions until they have 100 damnation wins under their belt and not be allowed to que for auric maelstrom until they have 50 auric damnation completed either.

If they can get 100 wins / 50 wins it does not matter if they are console or pc or whatever they can handle it so its all good imo /shrug

I have a very decent DAC ( CREATIVE G6) as my sound card, a far superior sound card to what majority of people have, especially if you consider the majority just use some cheap motherboard integrated audio.

I have one of the best gaming headphones money can buy (Massdrop X Sennheiser PC37X and PC38X), with high quality audio and a decent mic.

The sound issues still affect me.

The sound engine is broken.

Audio cues for specials, elites and horde enemies don’t get played with the right level of priority.

Audio cues often get lost due to the repeated character chatter, as much as I like it for atmosphere.

Audio cues don’t get played at all.

Some audio cues just occasionally do not play.

Some audio cues have questionable design:

  • Location of enemies like trappers and dogs is being poorly communicated, outside their initial spawn cue and the final “attack cue”.
  • on other hand enemies like mutants scream through the majority of their existence, as do bursters
  • hard disablers like netters and hounds should be ALWAYS prioritised in the audio, some like the backstab sounds for overhead attacks from crushers and maulers.

Due to some “difficulty” conditions being “designed” around the worst special enemy possible, namely mutants and pox bursters, the audio sh…itself even more as mutant and burster audio cues flood the soundscape, often override everything and each other.

I don’t what what joker thought this is a good idea of a difficulty modifier, if all it does it makes the audio issues even worse. Nevermind chaining burster explosions with their own issues: “I refused to get pushed” or blowing up bursters just too far away to get pushed but close enough to damage you.

Great news, I hope it at least touches on some of the audio issues which have been plaguing Darktide, and goes over challenges the audio engineers face, because atm this is one of the main issues which comes up with old and new players.

Combo that with nets flying through everything when your completely surrounded by stuff and cant move and that’s how I get caught mostly.

This is one of those posts i hope they read

For expectation setting, it goes over more of creating the sound while in initial development and all the complexities of it. But it doesn’t explicitly address some of the issues players have been reporting.

But in regards to audio issues players have brought up, I mentioned it in another thread:

It’s been hard to repro some of the issues on our end, like with specials, so it’s difficult to pinpoint the cause. The more logs we have, the more information we have to fix those issues.

So you’re saying stereo headphone option simulates height channel?

what if we use 5.1 with hesuvi or any other virtualization such as windows sonic? Does that have similar effect?

I used to swear by surround sound headphones, and honestly I feel I get more of a surround sound experience with stereo headphones. I’m sure it’s a placebo effect, and likely not as helpful in close proximity, but it reminds me of the virtual barber shop experience. The brain does all the surround sound for me lol (p.s. I am not an audiophile, I just like my comfy headset/earbuds)

K, what do you mean? Console.log? I would imagine a clip with some supporting video evidence would be nice too?

It is very, very rare for me to experience sound cue issues on my headphones and I average 2-4 hours a day. When I say I don’t experience sound cue issues that means I don’t complain at every trapper and dog that happens to sneak up on me and then claim “That only happened because the sound didn’t play”. I do realize I am only human and can’t grasp 100 sounds being played at once and might make the mistake of missing a trapper or dog sound.

In my personal experience it is very, very rare for sound cue’s to not play BUT I have had it happen and have had silent trappers sneak up on me when there was barely any other sound.
