People wondering why there are so many sub-par players

You have to keep in mind, we got people over here trying to play this game on STEAM DECK. In my personal opinion this is the LAST game that should be on steam deck. You got fresh level 30’s que’ing for T5 Maelstroms with 3 modifiers, we are gonna have steam deck users doing the same exact thing. I could never understand how anyone could enjoy this on steam deck unless you limit yourself to solely sedition difficulty.

Another note, people that do not play with headphones. I have talked to multiple people that say they “don’t need headphones” “I have expensive speakers” “I play fine with speakers” - No, you NEED headphones and you play terrible with speakers. Maybe some of you can get by with speakers but I have seen soooo many people be absolutely oblivious to sound ques and much more and I guarantee the sole reason is them using some speakers, it isn’t the game glitching out. In my personal experience I have seen a person claiming speakers are fine and watched him get snuck up on by crushers/maulers/trappers and dogs practically every game.

I severely doubt that all the players that could be deemed trash are playing on the Steam deck.

Is that what I said? No. I said keep in mind there are players that play on steam deck therefore adding into the pool of completely trash players. I am more concerned with people that think playing on speakers is okay

It’s particularly funny when you consider the fact that the game has never been easier

Power creep is full on braindead right now

Yet these people still manage to get stomped, drag the team down with them, and then whine on reddit about how things should get buffed because muh fun

Fatshark has a lot of nerfs to hand out, but it’s not looking good

Speakers can be great if you’ve got a properly set up and configured surround, 5.1 or 7.1 etc, but unless you’re an amateur audiophile or give 2 figs, odds are you don’t. But then there are room reflections etc…

A good pair of headphones, properly configured across the board (Windows+game) is sublime, can elevate your gameplay. This doesn’t mean plain old stereo everywhere. Nowadays many headsets are bundled with DTS X licenses and integrated into the software suites for instance, but people don’t use them and take 2 mins to set it up.

P.S.

queuing

Argh! 1 letter away…CUE

P.S. Mostly returning players, consolers and returning consolers.

they days of speakers ended with quake 2 and playing lan parties back in the day, never looked back.

How the heck do you get snuck up on by those units I have no idea… but most common reasons include terrible spatial and situational awareness. That doesn’t just happen with speakers. I play ok with speakers, but I do listen out for cues, really appreciate that the devs put a lot of thought and time into them, just like on Left 4 Dead, they warn you =P

When playing with headphones it is so much better though. Clearer.

OP is forgetting all the people playing on console. i hope OP gets nothing but people playing on console until they remember.

NGL the reason we have ‘sub par’ players is because people came back for itemization and the sale. We’re going to have a lot of fresh meat and rusty players.

The bump is already halved, casuals are tourists

It’s not going to last long, and with Fatshark’s insistence to absolutey braindead dumb down their game, they’re also going to lose their hardcore playerbase who will at best go back to Vermintide 2

I’m already getting full 60 seconds empty lobbied and endless backfilling for missions started with incomplete squads

I’m generally conservative on opinions on players, as I know I’m not top 1%, but … yeah, I would say that I’m playing more and more games with higher level “newbs”. And by that, I reckon pre-patch a level 50 would be okay to do a T5 with. Now I watch (from a distance) lvl 130s camping a spawn point alone while their team is getting hammered at the objective point.

Also…

Headphones are, at least in my opinion, three or four times as good for hearing and positioning enemies as speakers. @gpkgpk and I have had a few conversations on this, and I value his opinion… but  - I’m going to say that for me, the ingame headphone-stereo positioning is every bit as good as DTX:Headphones, Windows:Sonic, and Dolby:Atmos. Don’t waste your money.

But do buy good headphones with GOOD base response. Crushers have a distinctive but quite low bass “crunch crunch” sound as they walk, and you can’t hear that on your average £/E/$100 desktop speakers (even through an expensive DAC). I’ve an Orbitsound speaker bar with subwoofer, and I don’t pick them up on that. On headphones+DAC, I’m listening through about £600 worth of hi-fi sound gear which is likely overkill; but it’s made a hell of a difference. I still get silent trappers though

Just lfg… you cant complain about bad teammates if you solo que i will never accept it as a vaild complaint. You know what youre signing up for matchmaking is terrible in every game ever made.

I ONLY play with randoms that i lfg with so we can talk. 1 - coz its boring to not to and 2 - so we can communicate.

I still find trashcan players but when you can talk to them and hear them its way more tolerable and fun.

And again, strongly disagree, /wink!
As you and I have spoken about, use the TRIAL versions, try before you buy, but don’t just sit there in plain old stereo without having tried alternatives inlcuding stuff you already may have.

And again, many people are unaware they got bundled licences they just have to spend a few minutes to configure stuff.
Open Back headphones are supposed to be better for 3d sound in general.

The in-game stereo doesn’t seem to do as good a job in plain stereo as external positional SW and/or DAC, YMMV , well ears may vary.

Not in my wheelhouse, I don’t know what capabilities Wwise audio offers that are used in DT, or how the game stuff is implemented internally, but Wwise has a Spatial Audio page for example, lots of dev blogs pertaining to Spatial/HRTF/Binaural (3d sound) but not much clarity on the DT front. Mentions of HRTF plug-ins across the board, is there a default? Only in Spatial?

Does DT do anything beyond basic panning, attenuation and reverb? Does it have a softwre fallback HRTF/binaural if stereo? Will it only do positioning in 2.0 if Win Spatial Audio is enabled ? Better to properly set up your stuff in Windows and set game to 5.1? Why no more 7.1 option like DT had? Does it even matter for virtual 7.1?

@FatsharkStrawHat can we get some dev guidance on how people should be setting up their sound optimally and what DT does natively if ppl leave it in 2.0 stereo across the board?

P.S. Worth repeating some solution like GSX 1000 DAC (rev 2 now) support separate virtual communication devices so your discord chat doesn’t get spatialized in 3d, which can change the way things sound and this bugs ppl.
If you can try a GSX1000 rev 2 and return it, try it.

What are you doing watching them getting snuck up on? I’m sure you cover them when you can (or maybe you don’t.) Audio cues have an issues. I know that when there’s a barrage of cues, I focus on the cues that are closest to me. Dog howling is one of the quietest, most common, and most buggiest cue to track as sometimes a dog won’t make a sound. Other day I saw a pox burster turn a corner then start ticking like 1…2… TICKTICKTICKBOOM!

Perhaps you should put a [Rant/Vent] tag on your posts…?

It’s not just speakers it’s very obvious why.

People actually want to play DT again now that a update came out.

Of course people who used to run the hard stuff are bad because they lost all the twitchy ass muscle memory they used to have when they hear dogs, nets, and snipers.

Just give it a while and they will drop down or get good again.

Not sure if you’re referencing something specific, but this game is officially unsupported on Steam Deck.

EDIT: OK wow even on this forum there are people reportedly having played it lol… power to them, I’m impressed!

Yup! It’s totally playable! You could usb MKB, but the deck also has the best-in-class controller setup of touchpad + gyro, which has an incredibly high skill ceiling.

The real “bottleneck” on the deck is performance, but you can get 30fps out of it in hordes with some tweaks. And with sufficient skill, that’s workable. I wouldn’t do auric maelstroms on it personally, and ranged fighting will suffer from FSR crunching, but it’s all playable.

The main reason is people being allowed to play difficulties they can’t handle way too early.

For example someone can join auric as soon as they hit lv30, without having played a single game with the build that uses all available skillpoints(let alone figuring out anything close to optimal skill choices).

just do 5.1 + hesuvi

hahaha well at least you corrected me and now I know - let’s hope I remember
