It’s rare, but it happens, and you remember those cases as getting hard disabled often can mean “game over”.
Yes which is exactly why the post is worded the way it is. This isn’t a thread claiming steam deck or non-headphone users make up any % of the playerbase, it is a post making it known if you are WONDERING why people be playing the way they do, they could POSSIBLY be on steam deck or have no headphones! Some people didn’t even know this game was played on Steam Deck, now they do.
I honestly can’t even recall the last time I claimed a sound cue didn’t play when I got trapped or jumped on my a dog. If the issue was that prevalent I wouldn’t be on this game.
I don’t really know a solution for trappers since they seem to be the biggest culprit in terms of ruining games.
I have had netters running past me making no sound on the way to trap a team mate, so this isn’t my “gamer ego” blaming the game in those situations.
This is the thing with netters and dogs, they tend to get introduced on spawning fairly well, especially hounds, but the mid section of their attack run is pretty poorly communicated through sound, the final stage of the attack as in arming of the net gun before getting fired and the hound making that growling nice when already flying at you are “ok”, but especially with hounds in some situations, especially with classes like ogryn the window to react can be really tight, especially when mid attacking.
I also get weird burster situations which audio cue is weirdly quiet for the distance between them and the player.
it happens all the time maybe you dont play on a high enough difficulty or something… go shock troop gauntlet you can try it on malice im sure itll happen there too
see for yourself
depends,
first of all we talk about auric maelstorm.
yes i had other friends play darktide but they jumped ship around malice and wouldn´t be any better than your regular pub´ in I II V E G and the like.
it´s not up to me to sweaten people into games they inherently don´t enjoy, drains from my playtime and energy as well.
second, voice.
never heard you in person, or anyone else on the forums here for that matter, but 99% chance has it ( me included, hate my own voice on recordings, so i do my youtube stuff muted ) you´re not james earl jones or any voice actor level.
again, no personal jab, just chances.
why do i care? immersion
i enjoy 40k like almost no other game (doom/fallout being the exception) for the “beautiful” atmosphere it provides. something i feel right at home at.
and voice or character conversations being in unison with the theme is a vital component of said immersion.
if there was a high pitched teenager voice coming from the nearby ogryn i´d be “right out” immediately.
make of that what you will
only voice i accept ingame as “natural” is my other gaming buddy´s, know each other for 30 odd years, his voice is “canon” in my mind.
third,“content”.
hits the fan you bet your
we don´t hold back on language.
another reason i “mute” myself while recording.
me playing battlefield 5 in mid summer with open windows… street outside was empty
now, you add all of these together, cherry on top would by absolutely x10 work hours, not that i can´t get 5+hours together at a time to really scratch that itch, but capitalistic vampire be damned not at the same time as my buddy (whose schedule isnt much better for that matter)
so, you willing to pile together and sponsor my monthly expense (ain´t that expensive mind you
) i´ll be the most social team seeker (won´t hold back on my vocal venting though mind you
) you can imagine.
I’m not that gigagamer, in most games i’m slightly above average, in some i’m pure trash no matter time investment. But holy DT community is absolutely horrible in the terms of skill.
The ammount of people joining maelstroms instantly die and leave is insane. Clown conveyor.
Returned players? Yeah ok, i can’t imagine thinking process behind the deccision to jump at the highest difficulty (especially when it’s clear those people are heresy-damnation players). You would expect atleast they say “yo boyz, my first auric/maelstrom, be gentle uwu” or “haven’t played for a long time sry”. Heck no, just a carousel of stupidity.
I give advices and tips in polite and meme manner when i see people are SLIGHTLY unexpirienced and recieve “thx/oh good to know” etc. Tho aswell there are horrible players and what a surprise they are rude aswell “who asked”, “stfu”.
Smurfing sucks, i hate when expirienced players ruining exploration and learning curve for noobies. Imagine if it was efficient to farm malice for cosmetics or some materials?
Same thing with reversed situation.
It’s braindead to say players should find a solution by themselves like finding premades (i have a group of sweatlords, but there are plenty of reasons why it’s not always available), when devs created this problem in the first place by giving additional rewards for the highest difficulty and not asking to do somewhat meaningful trials before getting an access for auric board.
Don’t create a system that opens the gate for frustrating or annoying things to happen, and 90% of those situation will not happen. You don’t even need to punish anyone, just don’t motivate.
And i will say it in 100th time - there wasn’t such problem in V2 with Cata.
Also regarding apparent increase of “sub-par” players, I have seen some obvious auric / maelstrom tourists, but I don’t think its far more than usual. I do see some interesting gamers with characters barely past level 30 joining, we even had some joker with a green power maul, but so far its that extra level of spice we have been enjoying. “Sub-par” players are the most fun difficulty modifier this game offers.
This is great news, thank you, I could kiss you! I was ~sure DT wasn’t doing any binaural/HRTF processing, but it’s nice to know for sure.
I’ll wait for the dev blog for follow ups and clarifications.
Depends if you’re talking about discrete surround, multiple little drivers (speakers) in a headset or virtual surround, stereo but with binaural/HRTF processing before it’s sent to the cans.
I’ve tried both, the issue with discrete is a) not many models, b) small drivers means lesser quality overall for general use, but the 3d sound IS better. I could pinpoint sounds in my BF1 days with greater precision on my Razer Tiamat V1.
You don’t need to sacrifice quality or comfort with a virtual surround headset, which is basically all of them as it is just a headset with SW/HW. Just pick a good quality comfy model, preferably an open back, and turn on 3d virtual sound either in SW or HW with an external DAC, and set the output in game.
For SW: Try DTS, Dolby and the free open-source and configurable HeSuVi for Equalizer APO. Many headsets come bundled with DTS license or implementation.
I’m no audiophile either but I can really appreciate better sound, and even more, good 3d sound which ups your game in any FPS, been using it since Half-Life 1.
The whole point of binaural/HRTF is to give you better sound cues your brain needs to localize sounds.
P.S. I’ll pretend you didn’t say ear buds, you Monster!
yeah the playerbase is typically trash, probably also has to do with gamepassers and xbots.
Only once, although I only played for about 1k hours, have I ever seen someone get pwned right off the bat in auric maelstrom, admits(in chat) this isn’t for him and left. Respect to that guy, he’s more real than at least 50% of playerbase.
Very rarely get genuinely ‘bad’ players on Auric Damnation. I think a lot of people have bad days or are trying something different to see if it works.
1300 hours in and I can tell when someone fundamentally struggles to play the game and someone that’s just getting unlucky in a horde and lost tempo.
I feel like a lot of people conflate their own poor mood with other people doing suboptimally in a game that’s been out for almost 2 years now.
You need to pay more attention to your teammates. Doesn’t matter what build someone is using, the fundamentals don’t change(dodge/slidespam to close distance to ranged enemies, for example).
I’ve been seeing people complain when I pick up grims in auric lately. Some people die and blame grim(lol, will do literally anything but stack a little hp/resist).
this “tourism” seems often to be the issue with players who level their character to 30 by playing malice and then jump straight into damnation or even maelstrom expecting a similar game.
one can see them as a difficulty modifier, but sometimes no amount of carrying helps.
Guilty as charged.
And this.
I just don’t do well on Veteran. I understand Psyker more, I think given how their talents work separately requiring you to behave differently is the problem. Fundamentals for one may not be fundamental for the other. As remember, trying out new builds might also be on a class they’re not familiar with. Of course, they should probably do it in a lower difficulty, one might argue. However, I think they’re looking for a specific challenge that they can’t acquire anywhere else. Like me, for instance, I main psyker. Going to my marksman veteran sounds similar on paper, but it plays different because of the walking keystone it has for marksman. But I’ve done some work with that class in the past. But somedays it just feels weird and off.
Not based on what I’ve seen after double+ that many hours. There are many, for the sake of argument let’s say 1/8 (and I’m being very generous), who are clearly nowhere near being. It’s not rocket surgery differentiating between “fundamentally struggling” and “just having a bad day/unlucky” , there’s a very large buffer for the margin of error already factored in.
It’s clear these player skipped heresy, auric heresy, regular damnation and sometimes even auric non HiSTG and went straight to the deepest end, because #reasons. The amount of malice players who went straight into Damn Auric Maelstroms is astounding, and challenged any notions I may have previous held in my brain. And I thought B4B was bad…
You can try different things, many of us do and the game is forgiving enough, but the “I have no business being here” crowd sticks out like a sore thumb. There is zero reason to sugar coat, gloss it over, make excuses for them to rationalize their behavior etc; Occam’s razor applies here, maybe Hanlon’s razor too.
We deal with them as much as we can, and try to help but sometimes there’s just no helping them despite your best efforts. It is what it is, but it didn’t need to be, we all share some blame and the game is in a rather strange end-game state because of it. The end-game could have been a fair amount more satisfying, I fundamentally object to the tourists being a difficulty modifier.
i can go into any special spam modifier (poxburster waves are probably the worst) and have sound break 100% of the time
how do you guys have issues replicating this?
is testing done on malice?
there also many areas where sound just breaks, like airlock before end event on smelter
using the Spidey Sense mod really shows how often the sound cues are simply not working
there’s your issue
I bet you chose toughness regen on headshot instead of elite/special/rager kills.
Vet already does a ton of dmg with krak and Onslaught(infernus4dumdum4 reconlas6) to all targets at range, plus there’s always crutchsword that can 2shot crusher / cleave and stagger any realistic number of ragers. Marksman is mostly irrelevant.
So are other keystones…
Sorry, could not resist. But keystones on veteran are really too badly designed.
