Yep, it is. As i said, beam blast is bugged.
The only thing they should change is that perma crit beam⌠i think combined with Heat Sink (Dissipate on top of that) and Exhaust that stinks, because you can maybe cool down too fast. Iâm not even playing that way, so i canât judge it completely. But maybe thatâs the whole crux of the situation here. Itâs not completely the staffs fault.
One thing being broken can lead to something else being broken in the process.
The beam staff has a poor left-click beam attack. It only works on the hoards of scrub skaven AND when in a small area. The close range blast is good but fills exhaust really quickly so you can only clear 1 wave until you need to exhaust. The beam blast is good for sniping specials but on bosses I find just holding the beam to have a higher DPS because the heads move too much.
Beam staff isnât broken, itâs the exhaust reset you get on lvl 25. Maybe just lower that to giving -50% overcharge instead of -100%.
And like ViperClaw said, the beam staff is bugged. Devs should first fix bugs and then rebalance the staff if necessary. Though imo I donât think itâs the staff thatâs OP.

my gear is 300 orange on every hero i play only on champ/legend. i got sienna on 30 , kruber 25, saltz 29, elf 25 and bardin on 27 it is ridiculous that ppl can steamroll high difficulties with little to no effort only by using ranged making it look like recruit , meanwhile players that mainly focus on melee get punished for every mistake. donât get me wrong I donât want ranged dead i just want it to regenerate more overcharge + less ammo &ammo reg on some classes or nerfing ammo pick ups (example waywatcher swift bow) ranged was totally fine in VT1 never had any problems with it but in 2 it just seems so overpowered and turns a hack n slash into a gun and run and encourages some people to run 10000 meters ahead for their precious 400 ranged kills (even if theres no scoreboard i doubt that will change anything). I also had 1 game so far where i was able to get like 30-50 kills on champion i had Pyromancer and a Waywatcher in my team which blasted everything from 50meters (except the boss it was that karak map with the stormvermin guy) i donât mind that i donât have 999709790 kills but if i only have to follow others and they kill everything WHERE is the fun?. I bought the game to slaughter stuff not to watch it die and walk around like in a wandering simulator.
Holding the beam on bosses is awesome, if you have a team for that. Iâm almost feeling jealous. If you fight a boss with heavy add spawns, beam blasts are often better, because they allow you to get in heavy hits while staying on your toes and fending/dodging off the army around you. At least thatâs my little, indipendent, universal approach to many boss fights. ^^
Many ppl with hero power level 500+ are running champion difficulty. Please donât forget power levels, they seem to impact the game by a lot. I once met a Waystalker and a Slayer outperforming my Pyro by a long shot aswell, while i was doing a good performance. But i just couldnât keep up with their tempo and incredible killing power. Sure itâs strange, but high end power ppl seem to be able to carry hard. That seems the way itâs intended. Otherwise the increase in power would be a lot lower i guess.
Itâs one of the reasons this game has to be hell to balance. I somewhat feel sorry for Fatshark in that regard.

totally agree with you but my hero power is 540+ on every hero (elf being the lowest with 540 and sienna the highest with 600) but it canât be that 2 people can just constantly kill everything from 50 meters. it just shouldnât happen especially not on higher difficulties the game should be more about skill than pressing right+leftclick or left click it just seems 2 me that ranged is way more viable then melee.
Define âviableâ though. Melee is very viable but if kill count is what you want then melee isnât top tier.
if you have a standard group of people you play with, just try 1-3 Legend runs only using ranged it makes the difficulty trivial thatâs what I meant.
I canât judge endgame yet. Iâm still helping my friends getting up to 500+ to run more champ missions with them, instead of doing everything on my own.
Maybe some kind of âEDF 4.1 Shieldbearersâ, casting a protetice bubble around them would be cool. Shielding ranged enemies next to them against ranged weapons, so that you have to engage through the shield into melee combat. xD
Melee isnât weak, and ranged shouldnât be either. Maybe some additional mechanics could help.
Itâs really difficult to set up a functioning system in which everyone is happy.
yeah they could add that you got less ammo / more overheat on higher difficulties , but when i play Publics and i get this annoying ranged comb of Elf + sienna itâs no fun elf snipes everything and sienna shotguns everything in melee range
I really donât care about my movement speed through the level when defending a Horde. But yea, 2 or 3 melees making a meatgrinder is probably as fast as or even faster than one Sienna.

Yep yep, your invincible wall of defence against a nerf remains the same. Mages should be op because of ⌠fluff/tradition. Iâm not so into the warhammer fantasy fluff, but I guess your reasoning would even justify a buff. So totally a valid argument.

Shotgun does stagger them. But point for you. It doesnt stagger everything, so for your nitpicking: Only like 99% of the enemies you encounter will be staggered. Pls buff, she is a mage.
I suggest you shouldnât take everything too literally. With the right setup and skill, you can cast nonstop most of the time. Only having bad luck with critchance too much in row forces her to use her vent. But even in bad circumstances, you can shotgun, dash back, vent a bit and repeat. The point is that the venting as her tradeoff for being a powerful mage is almost non-existent. With temp hp, pyro ulti talent, heat sink her tradeoff is a joke.
Well, the warhammer fluff sort of has you disappear into the realm of chaos, lose your mind, be attacked by demons⌠or something equally pleasant if you fudge your magic roll.
But I suppose the amount of casting is actually in relation to someone carrying 30 pistols on their body. ^^
trueflight is completely unreliable. there are times it wonât even kill a gutter runner, even if itâs dead locked and every arrow lands on him, and itâs completely worthless on a chaos warrior. itâs running on over twice the cd of flaming skull and about the only realiable use of it is to fire off on blightstormers in the distance since anything closer to you has about a 50% chance of failure on your locked target for no apparent reason.
i dunno if it should be nerfed yet, though i do think sienna is terribly boring to be in a group with, and sheâs started to attract those types of players recently, but in comparison that skill is ridiculous if only for the fact you can fire it off constantly.
I was curious and decided to count how many melee "nerf-this-nerf-that-ranged-classes-makes-the-game-not-fun-for-me whiners are there. As I expected itâs less than 20+ playersâŚout of 50000 players. Itâs not even a vocal minority, itâs a speck of ⌠on my boot.

First off, yes yes it does. Too many times ive need to kill a chaos warrior or rattling gun to save a teammate and too many times it has gone off on its own ignoring the target to kill 5 clan rates ( OMG it killed 5 clan rates plz nerffff waaaaaaaaa) and ive played sienna since vtide 1 and honestly thought the beam staff was trash so because of this forum I went to try it in a few champion+ game to see what the fuss was about andâŚit sucks imo there are easily 2 other staves that just do its job better. I wont say which ones out of fear that some whinny kid is gonna ask for a nerf until as I have said before everyone is just a melee class with a stick.
as i said before in multiple threads⌠this is ONE way to play, not THE way to play. keeping enemies at bay with any ranged weapon u can have is viable, safe, but slow. try playing with 3 skilled melee heavy hitters, things will go down way faster than your sustained weapons can handle.
