The RNG Shop NEEDS to change

Once you make your perfect item, move on to the next. There’s plenty of different weapons and trait combos to keep you going. You also refuted your own point. You’ll still play even with the maxed out gear cause the game is fun, so why not just let people create their ideal weapons to play the way they want? Maybe today i want to login and create a decimator headtaker mkvii combat axe that does bonus damage to carapace and flak armor. It shouldnt take weeks or years to build what I want to build. Its just slower and less fun. It’s not supposed to feel like a job. It’s a game.

Nothing. But to engage in discussion with other people and being recognize as worthy discussing participant instead of a clown: you need more than that.

That ^^ is a good point and i hope fatshark takes a good look at it

Well i will roll the times suitable for my playstyle and will sure try a lot of diffrent things. I think there are a few blessing combinations to experiment with. I hope the fun will last long and that i dont get everything at once

At this point it’s like trying to explain to alcoholic that drinking alcohol is bad. I don’t think you can get anywhere here. This guy is just living in his Echo Chamber, that’s it.

Yeah, but you say “RNG kind of facilitated that”, so I guess you had good rolls or at least some you wanted/ made fun. I and my friends had not - regarding the shop/ the RNG.
Again, 100 hours just TO TEST a weapon, which NEVER rolled before is not acceptable.

If it is only an issue at level 30 why the unlocks in the first place? Unlock all weapons from the start, scrap the Trust level roadblocks.

VT2 was just better in this regard because it gave agency and options to the players without deluding the game. One could try everything (once unlocked), but to use it -to craft working/ good/ useable weapons- one had to get materials, other weapons to scrap them and needed some luck for the crafting (which had RNG).

No we have no choice, no options and ONLY a RNG shop which is time gated. Awesome.

V1 and its dice roll box was a lot better, because the more you played the more you got, and because in addition to it you could literally just farm stuff for mats, craft any weapon you liked from them, upgrade that weapon, reroll all its boons until you were happy, and upgrade those rolls until max. And the more and the better you played, the more progress you made on it.

But in Darktide nothing similar to that exists. You can’t even target which weapon you get, and whether or not you can actually make a good weapon out of what you get is basically decided on its creation. And there is hardly any correlation between effort and progress either.

Frustratingly on point…

You also get the same value of the emperor’s gift no matter what threat level you run. I’ve gotten a 500 rating item from a sedition (1) mission, and a 340 on a Damnation mission (5). The system is just incredibly dumb and should never have been implemented, even if they had the same system as V2 (which had its issues for sure), it would still be better than what this game has, this is clearly a one-step forward, two steps backward way of development.

They did actually change the RNG shop, they nerfed it heavily going from beta to launch by removing all purple and orange quality items from it.

So we know that the design intent of this is to force a grind loop back to Hadron when you inevitably upgrade something, end up with garbage blessings or perks and are back where you started. More and more it becomes painfully apparent that the game is unfinished and they hope to brute force player retention through this completely random reward system that can reward you with something amazing one second through a gift and totally erase several hours of gameplay the next through crafting.

A few days ago I proposed this idea to make the shop and the mission board more functional. The more I think about it though, the less I like the fact that at there’s no connection between what you do in the game (difficulty, performance, etc.) and what equipment you get, which doesn’t feel very rewarding. In any case I still think it would be an improvement over what we have at the moment for sure. On the other hand, having an RNG system has the feature that it doesn’t lock out the satisfaction of getting high performance gear for players who are not interested in beating the highest levels of difficulty (not saying it’s better or worse, just something else to consider).

I would be surprised if any drastic changes are made any time soon (i.e. I don’t think the RNG factor will go away). We shall see.

Ok my last commet on the topic, im sure you are as happy as i am about that, for other reasons ofc xD

I personally like the system as it is, but it is surely not perfect. Im sure others kinda like it aswell and again others, dont like it. I have no clue whos the majority, but i guess you wont find to many wich like it in this thread for obvious reasons.

At the end fatshark will hopefully make a decision wich makes both sides kinda happy or at least not one side completly sad. Believe it or not, but i understand some of your points. I just think you make the shop look more bad then it actually is.

A last note for people who really wait infront of the shop for an hour or only log in to see if there is something they want and log off if not, think about what you do there please. I dont really believe that such people exist, but you never know xD

Im out

If a Player mostly does 5’s with their Friends, is stacked up on Currencies then what else should they be doing to find the Weapon or Curio they want when their Friends aren’t available?
There’s no System that lets such a Player progress their Gear in any way. All they can do is check the RNG Shop every hour if they feel like it.
But I’m sure having the Gameplay be completely disjointed from Gearing is a great System too.

Again, implying all arguments and positions are equally well founded and valid. This guy gets really tedious.

Just in case people actually read through this thread: yes, the shop is as bad as people here call out, if alone for the implications it shows for the design decisions pushed onto the players.

Not gonna name names. But, anyone who enjoys this rng is either a gambling addict or low tier Korean MMORPG lover.

I always hated RNG in games especially when it’s tied to progression, I also tend to do more challenging missions so I’d like to be rewarded for my skill rather than amount of time dumped. I’d like video games to be actual video games, not another full time job. Remember back in the day when games were actual games? Not half baked, MTX, RNG, time gate content, DLC, battle pass, etx etc?

I don’t have time to play RNG game, I have a life and DT isn’t an MMORPG😉

Well I’m glad that it works for you. Unfortunately, the rest of us are not happy with state of affairs. Which isn’t a big deal as I said I’ve gone back to playing Vermintide 2 and am enjoying how that game values my time. I can change my loadout whenever I get bored of running the same weapons with absolutely no restrictions. I have pages upon pages of reds which I can consistently get from running a Cataclysm Chaos Waste run. I can dismantle those reds and try out different builds whenever I want. I can also earn Shillings and work towards a new fancy hat. Also, on top of that all, challenges in Vermintide are actually way more fun to do than in Darktide.

The system is actually really detrimental to the quality of the game, currently players wait every hour for the timer to tick down and get frustrated if the thing they want isnt available, only for the cycle to repeat again…

Not only does this create a repetitive cycle which actively builds frustration and annoyance towards the game every hour, but it also makes logging in every hour a chore and requirement to see if you got lucky this time, reinforcing this frustration and furthermore making gameplay a chore not something players actually want to do… this mechanic will be massively detrimental in the long run in my opinion, and needs to be revised extremely quickly before it bleeds players from the active user-base.

I just meant I was given random weapons to try that I hadn’t used before, but it’s not like having a list of all the weapons to buy and then getting random stats when you purchase one wouldn’t hurt. I don’t like the system, I just didn’t have any problems with it at first.

Fair enough.

Sorry, if I sounded rude, I did not mean to or at least it was not directed at you specifically, since it is a problem with the shop/game, of course.

Still, it is a bit infuriating when one levels his 5 operatives and the RNG says “Not today” again and again xD
Thanks for taking it with good humour.

The gear/weapon store in its current form is just awful. From the RNG crap to the 1 hour rotation. Especially for Pyskers at earlier levels. As are the overall lack of rewards for completing missions and side missions. Apparently there’s a cap on that? What? Why?! This game clearly does not respect your time.

This needs urgent and drastic improvements, Fatshark!
