The Crafting Memorial; lest we forget

I’m pleasantly surprised how many weapons that I thought not being good or to not like are actually good and fun to use once you can get the right set up and right build.

For some reason I thought we could do the equivalent of VT2 where we could salvage unrequired weapons into plasteel etc rather than just dockets. I must of misread this somewhere in game news updates.

You can. Higher rarity stuff salvages into dockets/plasteel/diamantine depending on quality.

I’ve never seen the amounts are like percentage or whatever you get dockets, plasteel, and diamantine but its not much in my experience

I probably have 2200+ lvls across 4 chars, and I had the mastery completed day one. This man was born with the mastery and was likely the gaming Dalai Lama in his past lives.

Ah I see now. You do get plasteel for “discarding” weapons. I was relying on notification popup and all it said was “0 dockets” but I do see plasteel count going up when viewing the change.

After update plasteel not that valuable as before. Not sure what I could do or can do with all of this now.

WTS plasteel for aquilas

I believe there was a glitch for people that logged in within an hour or so of the patch’s release. I imagine they had some kind of dev mode turned on that gave everybody max mastery, because every single person was mentioning it in the morningstar chat, and I also had full mastery on every weapon I previously had in inventory but never really used. The only weapon I didn’t have max mastery on was one that I never had in my inventory.

before the crafting update i had this urge to check the shop hourly for good weapons, and melk daily. i even made a second zealot for more melking.
however, improvements were so tiny and improbable, and crafting so frustrating, i had given up on it and just kept hoarding.

now as we change blessings and even marks there’s little reason to have more than 1 weapon with perfectly distributed stats of each kind. or maybe 2-3 if you’re like me and don’t like changing much.

anyway, this means that players who have already full mastery and an arsenal of everything can only spend their dockets and mats on cosmetics from the commissary, and on changing blessings to experiment with.

same for melk, since with full mastery you can craft your own stuff cheaper (in terms of playtime invested) than buying from him, and improvements are marginal at best (i recently bought a rashad with something like 286 base damage on heavy for my vet because his axe had only 285… go figure). so he’s a source of good stuff for newer players at best. still, i make my contracts, only kills and mats, no grims etc, old habits die hard i guess. but overall i’m really happy to concentrate on just playing the game instead of its economics.

Hah. No more complaints about the crafting, that is why this thread gone quiet.

But then again this thread was more the like general chit chat thread went into other side topics too with the usual suspects which I’ll miss.

Like recent or upcoming games recommendations etc.

Now remains map rng and mission modifiers

One that I’ve been seeing rear its head fairly regularly is cosmetics in general and the MTX layer.

indeed. and now, since i asked repeatedly why we can’t set these: has there been any statement why mission modifiers are still rng?

  • There was big player spike with new skill tree and crafting unlock.
  • Temporarily spike every time new maps release
  • Small spike with bigger update and few new weapons

The numbers go back to normal after a while.

Going to need more “varied” maps frequently to maintain momentum. If look at VT2 maps set after 2 years, there was huge variety there. Realise the game takes place in one location hence the similar look but variation away from the muddy brown can spice things up whilst still maintaining the theme and setting.

Not sure what happened with forum. It seems to have topics that eventually descend into personal insults. Depends on the game I guess. Paradox and Microsoft Flight sim forums more mature playerbase due to complex nature of their games.

But hey useful to check in for highlights on major changes on game updates and discussions on those I guess as steam news updates tend to be quite lengthy.

  • For QOL. Weapon inventory really needs filtering options. Also an “archive” place to throw weapons stored away to keep out of live selection to reduce clutter.

  • If they just natively add in ammo counter to show for team mates. I could live without any mods to this game. It is feature if anything that would actively encourage ammo sharing as people simply don’t know when to share if they can’t see what others currently have.

takes a year+ long break

comes back

immediately right back to getting no regs on my semi auto weapons and occasionally on melee for things like poxhounds mid leap

Fatshark plz.

Although I am hoping that the player base will stabilize to a larger count after this update. Too early to tell

that’s true, fatshark struggles to maintain the momentum. every update brings some features that have been requested, but still lacks others. for example, the skill trees would have made a much longer lasting impact if they also came with the crafting update. now we have that, but still no way to select the maps and modifiers, and maybe when we get that, there are no new maps to select… taken together, these updates make darktide today a vastly different game than it was 2 years ago, but this trickle is of updates is never enough to cause a flood.

New “varied” maps won’t have that much of an effect outside of the guaranteed period spike as, after that, they’ll disappear into the RNG pool where a significant subset of players won’t see them again unless they go out of their way to get mods like ManyMoreTry to access them.

now we need to continue demanding free map and modifier selection. not being able to play what and how we want is still a dinosaur bone to pick to me.

also, some more missions. didn’t fatshark want to release a new map per month initially? just think about having 24 more maps now. or just one per quarter. i can’t believe that making a map is that hard. just look at what people have made for the doom and quake games.

and unlocked & loaded isn’t complete without being able to upgrade every health, toughness and stamina curio to 21h, 17t, 3s.

I mean… y’all go for it… It literally doesn’t impact me in anyway because all I do is quickplay.

Granted, that is a direct result of not liking the system that we have, the thing that I don’t want to have happen is that we end up getting access to selectable maps and modifiers and ending up QPing into missions where it’s just a single person, or stuck in duos the entire time… or alternatively some tweaker’s selected as many modifiers as possible because they wanted a challenge and instead it ends up just being a slog.

Private matches would really solve that. Allow private matches to select whatever they want and launch solo, it’d solve a ton.
