The Book of Grudges: May Each Be Struck in Time

Another day, another complaint about the cosmetics store.

Also Havoc appears to have rustled some jimmies by being as terribly grindy and poorly designed as we all thought it would end up being. Monitoring the situation.

It would all be well and good if they made everyone get progress toward havoc rank. Instead, they went the route of “well since leavers are a prevalent issue, let’s make joiners suffer more than actual leavers do”. Unbelievable

Also being forced to play 10-20 missions (that you ‘host’) just to reach Damnation equilavent difficulty feels like a waste of time.

I wonder if this is still a remnant of those growing pains we heard about a while back. The whole going from flat to hierarchical management.

Even if you change it all on paper, people can take a long time to adjust (or just don’t at all).

Holy kark they actually changed it?

Supposedly. Unless I am misremembering the conversation. Can’t remember who gave us the scoop or what thread it was in.

Ok it sounds like good news to my ears atleast. The whole flat management concept seemed like odd idea to begin with.

Found it, bolded the relevant part. To me this implies they started the process of moving away from flat hierarchy. However, how long that takes and how many holdout people they had/will have within the company? Who knows.

Alright, here’s the threads on Havoc thus far:

The most salient points:

  1. FOR THE LOVE OF THE EMPEROR DON’T GATE IMMEDIATE PROGRESSION TO ONLY THE HOST

  2. Party Finder is garbage and overcomplicated, ensuring this will be a dead mode the second everyone gets tired of it, just like the Twins mission, because as it turns out, trying to gate anything behind a new board just gets it ignored when the novelty wears off.

  3. RNG missions are also terrible. Why.

As this is a brand new thing, it is not a ‘long-running issue’, but it is big enough to deserve its own section. Accordingly, I have started a new section in the first part of the Book.

Party finder is weirdly complex for no reason. Just make a secondary P2P lobby system and call it a day. This also gets you solo mode and level select for the people that have been crying for it. Three birds, one stone.

edit - yes I know that’s probably harder to build a new framework than build around an existing one, but it has literally 3 times as much benefit

edit 2 - Actually that brings up another important point, how the hell are we going to be able to play this game after the servers go offline? Because it might not happen soon, but it will happen eventually.

I’ve been playing Havoc for a bunch of hours now and my only honest gripe is the matchmaking. Why do I have to form a party with a bunch of strangers, manually, when that is what would happen with regular matchmaking anyway? Come on.

Besides that I’m honestly not that bothered by anything. It’s definitely hard as hell when you get up to 20+ but it stays fun. The traitor guards actual give me pause now, which feels fresh. All in all I’m enjoying it more than I’m not.

My bonus gripe is people play it when they shouldn’t even go near it with the skill level they bring to bear but when hasn’t that been an issue?

Man, I only got to play 3 matches last night, one regular damnation to mess around with new weapons with my friend and then 2 pub auric maels.

In the first hab dreyko auric pretty sure one of our team mates was a fresh 30 because he went down quite a few times before we hit the first event. Then later I got netted and the team left me at the drop. Fair enough, I messed up. Not 1 minute later the three of them died.

I know I’m not good enough to solo auric maels, but it’s hard to keep the ego in check when you get matched with people like that. Though if we were basically already a man down with that one guy then I guess it’s fair enough if they aren’t good enough to duo it.

Was able to win the subsequent hab dreyko auric and unlock Havoc right before bed though, so not all bad.

You know now that I think about it, a surprise bonus with the current matchmaking system is I can use True Level to see what level everyone requesting to join the party actually are. I’ve been doing that to try and curate good teams and usually it works. It’s a bit elitist but if there’s ever a place to be elitist I’d say this is one of them.

I hadn’t been putting on mods since vanilla was serviceable and I couldn’t be bothered, but that one is one I have always kind of wanted. Might need to pull the trigger. Maybe that and the scoreboard mod.

as other things. seems to be a recurring theme.

i’ve checked this party finder when it was introduced, never used it, and now… is it now necessary for completing havoc? or: did fatshark give us a reason to use it, since nobody wanted?

i haven’t got to play havoc yet, only spent a lot of time today with building mastery and the new weapons… which is another unneeded complex procedure. new players who gradually add weapons and mastery points might see it differently, but when you already have a mountain of dockets and materials, then you want only to pay upfront and be done with it.

instead, you go to brunts, buy at least 20 greys of that type, consecrate each one manually to green, compare stats, sacrifice all those without optimal distribution, go to mastery and click skill points there, before you can finally go to hadron and build your weapon, holding empower until it is done…

and so i played only clicktide today. really tedious when you have hoarded hundreds of weapons on each character during the dark days of rng crafting, and the menu would show you all these weapons so you can scroll through them again and again.

Got the cosmetics gripes including @DanAphelion pulling out f*cking PIXEL ANALYSIS to prove that the ‘krieg’ knife is identical to the Elysian one, and a few more Havoc complaints, including my own post on Reddit gathering people hating said system.
