Fatshark started "Unannounced Project"

So be aware Fatshark is my former employer and I’d like to maintain good ties with them, so I can only speak what I know and in a certain context (being having been involved in launch and moved over to V2 shortly after that).

That said, even though Fatshark has been a AA studio for a couple years now, Darktide was Fatshark’s first really ultra large scale project with that many people on it and that causes some massive growing pains, figuring out structure, etc; as prior to that, Fatshark generally runs a flat heirarchy, which has both strengths and weaknesses.

I think launch put some of those weaknesses in a sharp light and they’ve been very careful to only put out content now when it’s ready, signed off on all parties, and in a very good state. The company generally becomes more cautious and strategic after things like that. That means a longer wait sometimes as there’s more cooks in the kitchen, so it needs to pass through more hands, but generally will result in a better product. And Darktide is still somewhat a “new” title in terms of features and adding things that players feel should have been baked in at launch, whereas V2 has mostly gotten past that stage and can run on a smaller, leaner team.

This process isn’t really unique to Fatshark as generally games have a lifecycle of large team > launch > get to maintenance > scale down > sunset when the time is right. I think Fatshark is just really learning to adjust to that cycle in a scale of 200 people instead of like, 50.
