Spidey Sense mod is a ridiculous obvious cheat mod

How come it’s your post again?

Bro, can you reduce your complaints and play games normally like an ordinary player?

I think I understand your point. I think you’re saying that if not all players are on the same UI and getting the same cues from the game, then the playing field is not even.

With spidey sense in particular, I saw a guy doing a build demo stop what he was doing, do a 180, and back track like 30 meters to a door which a burster hadn’t spawned out of yet. Ultimately he shot it as soon as the door opened, with the sound actually playing only once the door opened. All that time he was complaining about the lack of audio cues making his life difficult. Most people would probably see that as a little more than a helping hand. On the other hand I do get bursters diving around corners, with the first audio cue being the beeping associated with imminent detonation, and I’d love to have an answer for that. It’s so frustrating. Silent trappers… ugh.
Luckily this game is cooperative and not competitive. If you’re playing alongside people who are heavily modded it doesn’t outright hurt you or anything.

I personally don’t play with mods because too lazy. I don’t even like the idea of health-bars on my screen; ugly-ing up my UI. I even play with motion blur on!

What undermines numerous aspects of the game are game mechanics which are buggy, inconsistent or flat out don’t work. For the game to be player “skill” based those have to work…yes consistently.

Before you write yet another rage filled post which will get flagged before people can ever read it and laugh at you, those mods are here to stay, get over it.

For sake of those with health issues I hope they can continue using them. I know I will continue using healthbars in the psy-lab and the SS mod in the game until I can rely on the audio engine to work consistently.

I don’t understand why you’re being so extremely aggro and passionate about this mod that doesn’t affect other players whatsoever. It doesn’t break fatsharks mod rules so why make such a massive stink about it.

Jesus christ OP, grow up. Who hurt you? Just because he/she was a modder doesn’t justify making an ass of yourself.

i was just looking at this mod yesterday and thought the same thing lol i decided not to use it just because i don’t want more screen clutter, and i like the feeling of dodging hounds, trappers, and mutants through sound cues alone.

the thing about these types of mods is that i like to have the game play as the dev intended, so i avoid these particular ones for that reason. i’m sure fatshark would have added a skill node that enabled this if they wanted it in the game(at this point, who knows what’s intentionally left out and what’s overlooked or forgotten), but i don’t really need it either way. if other people wanna use it, i don’t really care. it doesn’t negatively impact my experience, and if it prevents a wipe, i’m not gonna complain. it’s a minor thing, imo, and i’m assuming it still requires decent reaction speed to utilize well(?) anyways. it’s not like an auto-dodge or anything; THAT would be cheating.

You can just turn off the visual cues for anything thats not the burster or the trapper if you are tired of having to deal with the bugged audio of these two specials, and just stop using it whenever the audio is fixed.

Average auric gameplay?
And a random lvl 28 player joined all by him/herself?
Ok.

Something doesn’t quite add up here.

Let the people play the way they want. You will not know when they using it or not, so forget about it.
The advice is useless though, if the reason of your post is to complain about something.

He probably knows mod creator and though that this would be a good way to advertise it… well, considering comments, it worked. Many people who didnt know about this mod now downloaded it  OP is just little upset because people who had hearing issues and could not compete, now can and are stealing his special kills. Special kid likes to be orange so you know, every mod that will cause other people to have better stats in scoreboard will be cheating in his book - numericUI, spider sense, health bars. Dont waste time on him, not worth it mate.
Does mod gives advatnage? Yes. Does it do it ion cheating way? no. Does people who are good at the game needs it? No. It doesnt affect my gameplay, so why should anyone care.

Its not just those 2, those are just the main offenders. I and many I know have also suffered from silent muties, flamers, snipers, hounds and bombers.

The funny thing is, I could still compete and hold my own, sometimes even clutching, in Auric Maelstrom before using the mod.

After using it, playing just became less frustrating and more reliable

I don’t like that it exists. People literally camping doors on malice. And it affects me when people in matchmaking use it. So I don’t get that argument.

I don’t use Spidey Sense, but the accessibility benefits seem like a very reasonable case in favour of the mod.

There are some things I’d like to know though

  • How accurate are the indicators? Does it point directly at the enemy, or point towards their general direction?
  • Does it give precise range indication? I see on the mods description you can change the trigger radius, but I can’t tell if it provides real time distance to the enemy, or if it only says whether or not they’re in the radius

If the indicators are providing an approximate direction, and do not provide exact distance information, is the mod providing you with anything that isn’t already available via audio cues? I mean, more often than not, I can correctly ping the expected direction of a specialist and reasonably estimate when they’ll enter my LOS

It points in their direction (as it’s a recoloured damage indicator) and gives no range indication at all.

This. I’m downloading it because I can’t hear the special half the time, and it looks like what this does is color code the sound the specials already make and give you a direction.

When a dog spawns, it howls. When a trapper spawns, he makes whatever sound trappers make. Etc.

When the specials makes a sound it gives a flash.

Game does NOT have closed captions for the hearing impaired, or the people who want to listen to their own music, or who don’t have headphones with surround on because people talk to them IRL while they game.

This is modders fixing what the dev’s can’t be bothered to fix.

The mission played was the maelstrom from the regular mission board and there is no gameplay difference between damnation maelstrom on that and the auric one assuming the same modifiers.

I know there is a website or list somewhere that collects all the missions with modifiers for the manymoretries mod and if that goes far enough back you should be able to find this particular mission with the modifiers i described - was played on the day i made this thread or the day before that.

If you do play this stuff regularly you could also just pretty plainly see that the numbers make sense in the context.

But yea youre right about the technicality that lead to a player of level 28 joining and honestly i wasnt aware that the name i would give the upload on imgur would even show up here and as a result didnt put thought into it. The description i made in text here was entirely accurate - ultimately difficulty is the same anyway.

I try to run the maelstroms off the regular mission board if hard ones are available because those give better chances of bringing in players who arent particularly good which as i stated is the only real way to have any semblance of fun.

If you have the bare minimum of map knowledge + spawn locations you can pretty much pinpoint them even if it doesnt show distance. As someone else pointed out, the only weakness it has is vertical location with multiple floorsso there really is no way to know which floor they are on.

For example during the hab dreyko final event there is a spawn location topside across the ramp where you first come down into the arena and if the icon is in that direction you automatically know the sniper is standing on top of that or the trapper is currently walking down the ramp.

wrong
as pointed out multiple times it gives visual indicators for way more sounds than you could ever reasonably hear as a lot of them are barely audible and are supposed to get drowned out when playing missions with lots of enemies and constant fighting and as a result gives way more information than you should have yada yada read the opening post.

obvious example: it constantly shows most specials in the training room

On an average HISTG mission on damnation, we get an average 500 specials (disablers and specials).
Players could have left, so your screenshot doesn’t provide any concrete information we could base anything on.

One case does not make for a generale ruling.

500 specials over the course of 30-40 minutes, if you remove downtimes (event, lifts, etc), that’s easily 15+ specials PER MINUTE.

And you hear some, but you also miss a lot more.

New Crusher cues hushing all the other sounds might be a stealth nerf to the player’s ability to hear things correctly.

LMAO
