Modded Darktide

Am I even playing the same game as everyone else anymore???

Why do I even bother trying to get good at the game when there are goons smashing through content with this crap installed?

I said from the start that mods were crutches, but having seen it, its far worse than I realised.

Isn’t this the thing they just talked about for the upcoming patch? If so, this is not really an issue here soon.

well, you can do it without mods tho
even easier re-bind quell to LMB

Correct and I’m aware of that.

Now lets look at every other thing this guy also has installed. FoV mod. Enemy radar mod. And god knows what else.

My point was not to show the LMB quell macro mod, it was to show what Havoc 40 actually looks like for these idiots who think they are good at the game.

I was working my ass off on Veteran trying to climb Havoc naturally, no mods, using standard gear like chainsword and Recon lasgun.

We aren’t playing the same game as these people.

It reminds me of back when I played DayZ mod. I joined a server, it was pitch black, wandered around a bit then got shot in the head. Turns out the groups on the server all had nightvision goggles and just hunted newbies. Funny, but a tad unfair.

I can empathize with the FoV mod at least, one of my friends (who doesn’t really play DT, but the point stands) needs to increase FoV from default on most games or it gives him some sort of claustrophobia-like effect.

As for the other stuff, if I have to pick between all mods or no mods, I would still rather let the <1% of the userbase do whatever they want. You only encounter abusers about as often as griefers anyways. I like the QoL mods like enhanced tooltips, scoreboard, and true level.

The only other option is doing sanctioned mods like VT2 but that situation was awful since it took literal years to either sanction them or roll them into the baseline game.

Yeah I get that, to be honest I myself also suffer a bit with FoV sickness if I play for too long. And obviously the QoL mods aren’t the real problem.

This topic was mainly just because part of me wondered “Do the devs actually know what someone playing their game fully modded might look like?”

At the end of the day I’m just one guy, and if the majority prefer to play like this then its none of my business.

I think it is still definitely important to bring up certain unhealthy mods. Blew my mind when I saw the quell abuse for the first time. Was really funny actually. Until they went down at the end of the level and I had to carry. Was much less funny then.

Yeah same, I ran into one in Havoc. Thought my game was having graphical glitches. Long beams of LMB connecting the Psyker to his targets. I’m glad its getting fixed.

Mods like [SpiderSense] are clearly cheating, but as long as the game remains non-competitive and other players mods do not hurt my fun, I don’t mind as long as the mods I use are not removed.

My mods in no particular order:

  • NumericUI

  • ForTheEmperor

  • Perspectives

  • DynamicCrosshair

  • CrosshairRemap

  • Stimms Pickup Icon

  • Prefer Auric

Some people like it when the game plays itself, though it’s kinda weird they upload their gameplay to YT as if it’s anything worth seeing. More than anything I pity viewers who waste time watching DT content creators like this one, there’s nothing to learn from these videos.

One day people who defend stuff like healthbars will develop gamesense so they know which targets to prioritize and how many attacks they need to kill a Crusher. Until that day comes, let’s just silently pray for them.

How many of the “top players” in this game who “can do Havoc easily”, are actually playing with a similar setup to the person in the video?

If the difficulty is being adjusted for the “top players” and they play like this, is this not a major issue?

Yep I believe any gameplay mods are also crutches. It’s sad that people feel they need them. I’m a purist with MP games. We should all be playing the same game. I keep modding for SP games where people don’t get affected by my secondhand smoke.

I wish they would allow solo mode and restrict gameplay mods to solo only. That’s not going to happen though unfortunately…which is fine as long as anyone plays vanilla when discussing game difficulty. No one can comment on game difficulty when using any gameplay mods. They muddy the water.

It’s probably why havoc exists lol.

According to what I’ve seen on YouTube/Twitch, many of them use setups that include FotFF Zealots, overtuned weapons, and mods like [SpiderSense], and they play in a trio or duo with friends who have similar setups and are above average players, and then they complain about Darktide being too easy, despite the fact that other random players are one of the toughest and most fun modifiers as a soloplayer.

Also, the people I’m referring to (since I’ve been randomly queued withh “known players” in Auric Maelstrom every now and then) are typically not team players (unless they play with their premade) and run around doing their own thing, leaving their team to pick up the slack.

Main character syndrome deluxe.

wehehehehe it is easy enough to do grey only with modless

Well said, I agree completely. I mod Warhammer 3 to hell and back, races, units, even custom campaigns. Yet I never even considered modding this game, why would I? I want immersion in this universe.

Yeah thats what I was worried about.

They’d be better off listening to Hank these days, since we can say for certain he plays pure(he uses Geforce Now, which is impossible to mod at the moment), and he doesn’t seem even remotely biased.

the ultimate :face_vomiting: irony, his youtube scribble:“bring you the best quality gaming”… blala, then showing this script kiddy software crutching…

dafuq is wrong with people?

posting your own gameplay should be filled to the brim with skill backing the pride and effort you put in, not some absolutely disgusting auto-script a double hand-amputee could still do with his feet…

edgy/silly name checks out as well, at least thx for the necessary info to block ingame and not needing to bother kicking if ever crossed. :+1:

dont even doubt it, but the fact having to resort to such cheap stuff is the ultimate confession of being a lesser player and content with being stuck there for all eternity.

if they just went for improving their game, by now they’d have a perfectly fine sense of the battleground after 10-15 seconds by experience and gut feel alone.

how is it i see the green matrix wall with 6 ragers 4 crushers and rubble in between and still have a gauge that the 2 in the back need 1 swing more than the left 3bunch that been hit a couple times by my mates already?

the game literally offers an organic combat feedbacks its like “people refuse to breathe”-kinda resistance to learning the ground works :face_with_steam_from_nose:

I see nothing wrong with your mod list, but one can make an argument that crosshair mods and NumericUI are cheating as well.

That’s what makes this tough.

Although I think we can all agree that the auspex puzzle solvers, spidey sense and such are cheaty mods.

But whatever, this discussion has been had a thousand times and the only alternatives are:

  • approved mods which has it’s fair share of problems itself, such as not being re-approved for a long time after updates, or QoL mods which remain unapproved for unknown reasons
  • FS implements the QoL mods as options and removes mod support altogether

I need the crosshair mods to fix a few issues with the Perspectives mod (3rd person) and to force a dot crosshair since I despise it when the crosshairs are not a dot.

I get what you mean by NumericUI.

The reason I have it is to check my teams’ ammo, but because I now only use the blue infantry lasgun (Guardsman roleplay whoop!) I could actually stop using it because I almost never pick up ammunition anyway.

This would be the best way to go, and I would love it if they could make 3rd person optional baseline since, while I admire the mod’s author, it could have worked better than it does, but the modder did the best they could with the resources they had.

perspectives could also be considered cheating

Why would it be cheating when third person is more difficult to play in than first?

Do you mean that it is cheating due to the field of view?

The problem is that third-person aiming is also messed up (you don’t shoot where the dot is) and depth perception is messed up, making certain weapons that require precise placement difficult to use, such as shooting/hitting enemies in the head.

Third person works as long as you use melee weapons with wide side sweeps and ranged weapons that do not require hitting weak points to function.

Trust me, I am 1000 times better at the game in first person since it is designed for it, but I like to play it in third person because that is how I normally play games, but hitting a head with Zarona in first person? Not a problem! Hitting a head with Zarona in third person? Very unreliable.

Another issue is that the crosshair attaches to certain things in third person (since the crosshair is not where it appears to be): if an Ogryn teammate walks in front of me, it sticks to them, and door openings, for example, completely mess up the crosshair, making it difficult to hit anything.

I’ve played Perspectives for so many hours that I know where to aim, but it’s just muscle memory.

Aiming with the crosshair does not work welll in third person, so using Perspectives is like adding another difficult modifier to yourself.
