I have no hearing dificulties, but in the past I temporarly lost hearing in one ear for a short period of time. This really affected my ability to hear directions sounds were coming from over headphones and genuinely provided a “flat” audio experience. I just stopped playing games like Battlefield or Vermintide at that time. I’m sorry that you have to deal with that permanently.
extremly well put.
Mods are for the weak.
So you would regard it as cheating if the sound issues got fixed? Did I understand that correctly?
If so I would like to know what you think about the following points:
- What about the accessability that hearing impaired players get through this mod, or would lose if it would be considered cheating?
- What about the almost exact feature currently present in VT2, where you dont even need a mod to get almost identical visual feedback?
Also iirc Aqushy is using the feature in VT2, but correct me if Im wrong. I dont want to ping her, as shes not a DT CM
Hi Jasper,
I wasn’t touching that topic in my post, since I was replying specifically to one part of post from Liverslices, but I do not consider it a cheat if somebody is hearing impaired, for example as you are.
This as a very old discussion of equality vs equity.
If you put two guys, one of them 2.00m tall and one 1.50m tall into an orchard and tell them than they can gather all the fruit they can pick from the trees, then this is equality.
If you give the shorter one a 50cm ladder, then this is equity. My common sense tells me that this is the right way.
So I welcome any accessibility options for the playerbase. The more the merrier and if technology allows us to enjoy the game at the same level, then I am happy with it.
To extend your metaphor, though, the 2m tall man would also get the ladder. He wouldn’t need to use it, but if he did then he would have a reach of 2.5m over the 2m range of the shorter man.
This is also true with the mod. It gives an advantage that might be redundant, but it is an advantage.
Sure, maybe, but let me ask you, has Fatshark:
-
fixed the current audio issues?
-
stopped the director from spawning 2 to 3 doggos/trappers/snipers within 8m, and in blindspots of me and/or friendlies regardless of whether the targeted individual is within coherency of the rest of the team?
-
dedicated a few patch cycles to unf@cking the netcode and/or server issues?
Is the answer to these questions “No”? Then the spidey mod stays in my load list, and probably in other’s too, simple as. Still won’t save you from elites and disablers teleporting behind you and “omae wa mou shinderu” -ing your ass when the server latency gets randomly set to potato and your character’s time perception is set to only seeing things 2 seconds behind the present during a run anyways. But at least it gives me the chance to start swinging my melee weapon or blind firing my ranged one like a drunken, blind maniac in all directions before the server refreshes and I teleport into a net or under a dog.

Continuing the discussion from Spidey Sense mod is a ridiculous obvious cheat mod:
“I cheat because the other players are using unfair strategies to level the playing field!”
“The game isnt balanced so cheating just changes the balanced back to normal!”
“Strategy xxx is overpowered so cheating is justified!”
“I cheat because the game is unfair!”
“If enemies can shoot through boxes then i can cheat!”
Rethoric couldnt be any more on point. The real L strategy. Blame external forces for failure. Refuse to improve. Embrace easy mode. Justify with arbitrary crap.
Still waiting for Fartshart to actually use this mod and verify that yes, we should be able to track specials with pinpoint accuracy constantly because obviously 90% of the sound cues this mod shows are actually just missing ingame.
/s
What I do not like. Is the game playing the cue for ONE player, then considering it’s job done for the 3 others.
I took the habit of calling out everything I hear when I duo for that unique purpose.
One player will have the sound cue. And the other be damned.
Not once did I ever have the feeling that others have an unfair advantage over me due to mods. I used some mods a while ago but didn’t bother to reactivate them for the last three patches. However I absolutely love fatsharks player friendly attitude towards mods and think that this is one of their most likeable approaches towards handling this game. I wish more studios did this.
I seriously don’t get why it hurts you so much that other people can modify their game experience more to their liking for whatever reason in a way that doesn’t affect you. But I think you should be really grateful because if this are the problems that cause you unrest your life seems to run pretty great.
However if this robs you of your sleep you should maybe choose another game as other games are run with strict no mods policies.
I care because the Tide series used to be very good before this title and theres not exactly a ton of games these days that manage to accomplish something worth playing. Unfortunately pretty much every design decision that went into this particular game undermines everything that made the original games good, a lot of systems in this title are nonsensical or actively work against the game itself. The list is long and ive said all the things that needed to be said already after release.
I understand that average players may no see this issue as much but if you want to play difficult content in this game youre out of luck and mods do play a major part in why that is the case.
This is what it looks like when i play a maelstrom +special +mut +nurgle game with mods:
Shoutout to the random level 28 vet who joined around the first event after the other 2 guys already ragequit.
And its not just me. The game is so easy that a lot of players are very capable of effectively soloing the highest difficulty. Playing with someone else who is even half decent and using mods is insanely dull. I dont even bother with Hi+shock damnation anymore because its so trivial.
You might not pick up on this but i see it all the time. People randomly turning around staring at a wall because spidey sense just picked something up. People making terrible attacks like non AP attacks against crushers because they know the crusher is on 1 hp anyway. So if you feel that mod users dont have a vastly different game experience i just have to tell you that my opinion on that differs quite strongly.
I also made a refund request after they decided theyre no longer interested in pursuing solo mode (despite announcing it in marketing material blahblah during early access) which of course was denied.
Ultimately fatshark is probably too busy to circle jerk themselves over all the skin money they made to care that the game just isnt very good. At this point i wouldnt be surprised if none of the people still working at the company are able to identify what is wrong with the game.
So yea:
tl;dr this series used to be one of my favourites, now its trash. Thats why i care. Mods that are pretty obviously making the game easier are a big factor in why the game is trash. On the plus side i only have free time until february so after that ill be too busy to care anyway.
THIS.
I play in a regular group of 4 nowadays and all 4 of us call out specials when we hear their spawn noises etc.
You wouldn’t believe the amount of callouts for which nobody else got a soundcue, it’s disgusting.
This
Enough said… Fatshark, fix your own game. And maybe you should ask help from modders, they seem to be able to make things better (fro the drip, weapon customization mod by example).
(was not a compliment)
^Thats the game working as intended and you justifying your easy mode cheats.
My man, you can’t tell me the Numeric UI mod, all the crafting mods, autologin mods, are making the experience worse, are you?
Except there is no fairness. We ain’t robots running on the same specs. We have different reaction times, different perceptions, even our brains are unique in the way we process information we perceive. Differences in how our reflexes work.
Heck even age can play a factor in reaction time.
To argue about “Fairness” when things aren’t inherently equal is silly. What about all the people that would need such help to make it fair? Maybe they are hard of hearing. Maybe they blew out an ear drum and thus cannot hear well anymore?
And that doesn’t even cover the fact that this game clearly has bugs.
As long as it doesn’t affect your game, it really shouldn’t matter. As long as it doesn’t hinder your game, it makes no difference if someone else avoided a trapper because a Mod told them there was one, or because they genuinely spotted them.
It might be an issue if they autokilled them, but as long as the player still has to react to stimuli and perform an action themselves, i don’t see an issue.
The other games still exist. There are literally thousands of people still playing Vermintide 2 right now. If you do not like Darktide, why stay?
And if you don’t pick up on it, does it really matter?
So go play the ones you that are your favorites? Problem solved, i’d say.
I never said that fairness is the result of everyone having the same skill. I said:
Then you fall in to the Game mechanic fairness category that I described, which again, I belive is just as correct as Player skill fairness.
The main offenders are Spidey Sense and Healthbars. Those 2 really undermine numerous aspects of the core game.
There is also “decode helper” (at nexusmods) which is mind boggling to me because it really has no other function than being the most basic of basic cheats that make the game easier. It just shows how little of a fk fs gives at this point about enforcing their “we dont allow mods that are cheats” policy.
I dont think anyone is doing that, doesnt change the fact that all the mods that are cheats still fall into the category of mods.
