Kudos to you for doing the right thing here and asking the community to weigh in.
So the definitive answer is that no we won’t have a strong opinion on this mod. Whether you consider it cheating or not wall hacks and other implementations are readily available outside of mods and we don’t act on those either. Doing so would mean implementing anti cheat and we right now deem anti cheat implementations to be too limiting for the modding community and since darktide isnt a competitive game there are no real upsides to anti cheat.
Sure some might claim unfair advantage but really you are benefiting your whole crew so who cares really… And if you are playing Darktide for the bragging points you would still be at the mercy of the communitys opinion of the mod and not ours(Fatshark).
As for the intended behavior of this the analysis that we went back and forth on it and didn’t clean up properly is probably a fair one
I’ll report this straight to the source of the weird behavior and try to get it sorted.
I think it’s the correct take. It does not materially impact the enjoyment of other players for you to be able to see thru smoke (or even a wall) or know where a sound cue is coming from at all times or solve a minigame at the perfectly optimal speed.
It just doesn’t.
But all of the mods that fix jank, allow for customization and otherwise improve the game do materially impact the enjoyment of the people who use them.
Removing or crippling the ability to mod due to crappy, imperfect anti-cheat would be a huge loss for the game.
It’s the comment that it doesn’t matter that I think is mistaken, not the rights and wrongs of a mod engine that gives agency to community fixer-uppers.
If that’s a Fatshark spokesperson then they’ve just gone on record greenlighting cheats.
Yeah its clearly intended from old dev blogs about tox gas that you are supposed to have limited visibility. That’s like 30% of what’s forcing you to move out of the gas. I would agree that forcing this nerf onto Executioner Stance should be fixed, that ult is already ultra mid.
But yes like so many other things you can just say it doesn’t work or its a bug and feel better about it being completely against the spirit of the game when you remove mechanic(s) with mods.
the tox gas also doesn’t show you outlines when scanning things with the auspex.
which imo is the reason why i think it is indeed some sort of bug.
it is just interfering with outlines in general.
therefore, it’s not only the “ping”
but also outlines from bodies/objects when you scan things with the auspex, they will be asbent because of the gas, which can be a bit annoying, even if you are there about to scan them.
that could be unintentional but I can just not wrap my head around it blinding you otherwise and disabling the tagging system for you temporarily as being bugs. they’re literally mentioned as reasons why you want to move out of gas - limited visibility, enemy buffs and constant damage are your risks being in gas. but that does make the ult that’s 50% information overload (exe stance) worthless and that single interaction should be fixed. its not like a stance veteran even wants to be in the gas anyway.
Sure some might claim unfair advantage but really you are benefiting your whole crew so who cares really… And if you are playing Darktide for the bragging points you would still be at the mercy of the communitys opinion of the mod and not ours(Fatshark).
Oof…loaded statement, starting with the whole “it’s PvE so who cares”
and “mercy of the communitys opinion of the mod” doesn’t track because people just use the old “See? FS says it’s OK therefore it is”, very little self-policing from authors and community.
Nobody wants EAC back in the mix but jebus, can’t we do better as non-FS people?
It is a feature for gas to not show outlines while inside of it. Outlines will show if you stand outside of Pox Gas. That is part of the difficulty. You end up getting gassed you can’t see outlines anymore. This mod should be taken down 100%
