Sound will cut out at random , which leads to a freeze, and crash. Never happened before newest penance update

Either the update fixed it for me or moving the game to a different SSD did, IDK, I did both around the same time. Anybody else still having the issue after the update?

Itā€™s an SSD/HDD thing, i reinstalled the game on HDD this time and sound bug with stutters appeared. Never happend while game was on SSD

I had the issue on an NVME drive

Warp trickery

Have the exact same issue here, while playing SSD Usage suddenly spikes up to 100%, game freezes and sometimes crashes

Enabling experimental branch and disabling direct storage lead to even harder freezes and stuttering

Been crashing this exact same way out of nowhere the past few days. The sound cuts out followed by a game freeze for 10-15 seconds. Afterwards one of two things happens:

  1. The game crashes entirely back to desktop.
  2. The game boots me back to main menu with error code 2014.

This is getting tedious to deal with and nothing I do seems to fix it.

So, I made reports previosly, donā€™t think need to do that again as problems looks the same.
Since Penances update error keeps appearing.
Most of the time it leads to disconnection, sometimes you are able to stay in the mission. Donā€™t remember games crashing with it, if it did it happenned rarely.
I want to show an example how this happens. In first clip in kicks me out with error, in second clip I stay in after some stutter.
(vid goes on for a little after the error to show the game keeps going normally)

I tried different suggested solutions, tried 3 different SSDs (I donā€™t have HDD to try), I tried with mods, without mods, with second monitor and without it, iwth other applications running and without it, I tried ā€œ-experimantalā€ build in Steam as one dev suggested on the forums.
In video Iā€™m playing -experimantal build with no mods.

EDIT: also want to add I tried solution about changing text file about SSD usage in user folder like one of devs suggested. But I canā€™t make this file to save. It always returns to original, and it looks itā€™s a problem about editing rights and whole internet doesnā€™t seem to have solution for common users.

So, one thing I couldnā€™t for solution is this:

I change the text file, but as I launch the game it sets itslef back to original. Internet says itā€™s because of foulder rightsā€¦ Iā€™m not able to find how to fix it.

Hi there,

I see that this topic didnā€™t receive any update for a while now. Issue is still occuring after Unlocked and Loaded patch. After some testing I had a similar effect as some people mentioned that when the sound starts cutting out, my SSD usage jumps and stays at 100% for some time. After a moment itā€™s going down but it sometimes completelty cuts the sound of the game only - other apps are working fine while this is happening and it can last up to a minute. Sometimes it can lead to either a slight desync when everything from past few seconds then happens within a moment and sometimes it will disconnect me from the mission and drop in character selection. Itā€™s only happening in Darktide so far. There was no difference between playing with or without mods.

I just wanted to know if there is a progress on this, as I want to know if we should just aim for SSD upgrade or if this will eventually be addressed. I would appreciate any info on that.

I posted a while ago here, still getting this issue. I have been able to get a fix by moving it to my HDD (off my SSD) - tried moving it back to SSD and I get the crashes again.

So sad, I donā€™t have HDD, and buying one and go through whole instalation process feels like a stratch for one game.

I donā€™t feel Iā€™ve tested enough to ā€œguaranteeā€ anything, but I was getting this issue like 4+ times per mission at its worst, and after turning off portraits my issue disappeared entirely.

Before doing this I even tried the HDD suggestion, which took ages to install, game could barely perform at all. So I uninstalled it, and reinstalled on the SSD again.
On a friendā€™s suggestion, I only turned off portraits and nothing else.

Zero crashes since, the only issue Iā€™ve experienced is the known memory leak that can occur due to the mastery/crafting.

Didnā€™t help me at all. I play without portraits for months. You can see it in a video I posted above, no portraits.

Thatā€™s unfortunate to hear. What I find weird with this issue is that last week I did like a complete reinstall of the game, i.e. uninstalled, deleted darktideā€™s appdata folder, even tried the .NET reinstall - and then I booted it once just for folder generation, and optimised it with Nvidia app and tried running it only in fullscreen.
No problems for ā€¦ 2-3 days maybe.
Come the weekend and Iā€™m getting increasingly more frequent crashes and disconnects every mission.

So I wonā€™t be surprised if the portrait fix stops working for me as well after a few more days.

Had this problem since the penance update, still keeps happening. Gameā€™s on an SSD, Iā€™m not going to switch it to an HDD or whatever, but it is happening on a clean, verified, and mod-less install. 3 times in 5 games, once the game managed to hold on, but the other 2 were CTDs without possibility to restart the mission.
