Crash to desktop while playing, but also on occasion when I’m browsing the store or just chilling in the Morningstar. Audio cuts out, short freeze and crash to desktop. Potato as my PC may be, before the update I barely ran into this issue with only 3-4 crashes during my 100+ hours playtime. After the update, and I’m not exaggerating here, I have 100+ crashes and counting. Mostly on my Psyker, but it started happening on my other characters too.
Things I’ve already tried to resolve this issue:
Removed my mods
Uninstalling/Re-installing the game (x3)
Verifying my gamefiles (zero issues)
Reinstalled/repaired Visual C++ Redistributables
Disabled Steam Cloud Saves
Turned off portrait rendering
Resetting of shader cache
Increased/decreased worker thread count
Changed all settings to low
Changed framerate 60 FPS
Updated/Reinstalled my drivers
Stripped down naked in a candlelit room dancing in a circle singing praise to the Emperor
Sacrificied my cat to Nurgle and my dog to Chaos Undivided.
That last bit is a joke, my cat is fine and I don’t have a dog, I’m just trying to make it clear I’ve tried anything and everything I could think of but the Machine Gods won’t let me be great and live my best life.

Quick update: I’ve been playing on the Experimental Build that’s been mentioned in another thread for 2 hours now and I’m happy to report that there hasn’t been a crash in sight. The audio cuts and short freezes are still happening but I don’t crash to desktop anymore so I’ll take that as a win.
I tried it out and have been playing for a +4 hours now and no CTDs and no freezes/audio cuts either. Occasionally some light stuttering here and there but nothing that hindered my gameplay.
Otherwise you could upload the log, could be an issue with PSO or that you re-populate it since this is causing stutters.
The idea is that the shader cache should generate this for you. But the branch also had some experimental code that allows ppls having issues with the PSO storage to disable it in runtime. Could be t hat you were affected by this code. Note that this is not something we run with in live game at all.
You could also try this
another thing you could try is
in game files you find the file
settings_common.ini with the setting use_blocking_io = true, set this to false.
This will be the default in the future, so currently it’s quite untested. But it could help
I’ve disabled direct storage yes and it still lagged really bad. I’ve also tried the user_blockin_io change. the beta lags even worse than the normal game does pretty much
On current Windows 10 with current driver on an RTX 3070 Ti with DLSS and Raytracing OFF, FSR2 balanced, 12 cores on an i7-12700k and 32GB DDR5. Constant crashing since last patch. I’m lucky to get through one mission. Game is unplayable in current state.
we will update the experimental branch later today as well. One current issue is that there was some code that was not working properly when direct storage is disabled, which could lead to deadlocks.
Perhaps this could also affect gameplay, the issue is that we currently is testing only with direct storage since our assumption is that everyone should be able to run with it.
Why certain ppl have issues with stutter and audio is not yet determined.
