I have been working on a megafile of ideas for Darktide to publish to the site, And i wonder if i can. Speak about Horde Mode/Survival mode.
Works like, System of waves. I’m not going to fully detail about my idea for the gamemode, But here’s the idea.
Edit: Forgot to note, That the idea is based on the arena one-place style is like the twins type style but with more area-ground and cover to use, Like [Consignment Yard] HL-17-36 at the end of the map.
Every 5 waves, One Special Condition will be added into the mid-game. It could be
The normal versions of the Special Condition, And Every wave would be 8 mins long. (An answer why it's 8 mins long)
It can be found blow at (21/X).
And at some point, You can remove 2 Special Conditions at wave 15. To give players a short-break of chaos and then get back into chaos after a couple of waves. Until wave 20 would be the early leaving point.
(Note: There is so much more into detail for every wave to be interesting, But that’s a also another discussion topic)
And if the strike team wants to continue until wave 50, If they all vote in.
So my question is, Is what you guys think of adding Survival Mode into darktide. (Not to forget, Reward system, That i can also discuss, But that’s a different topic).
I’d love a wave mode akin to Killing Floor. I always liked the whole shop-and-strategize-between-waves thing. It’s definitely an idea that works, and the more effort they want to put into it, the more fun it could be. What if you could set up guardsman defenses between waves? Just throwing an idea at the wall but it’s a concept that could have a lot of depth
I was thinking like AI defenses yeah, sort of like a tower defense concept. Stuff like that ends up being dumb fun. Just a totally random idea though there’s a ton they could do with Darktide because the core game is so solid.
I mean, It’s fun joy idea, I would love that, But i don’t think Darktide engine can be that powerful to do those type of things really. Better off looking towards optimization ways of making ideas that are simple and could be easy for the devs to make. But also make it as much enjoyable for the players and hard at the same time like going from Malice to Heresy for the first time, Is whole world to be seen again. Sort of type like that.
Dumb-fun ideas for a game is always answer to be positive output that you hope the game gets more content and live updates. Love it.
Even tho, I just want to see more comments about Horde Mode/Survival mode type of thing, Inside of an arena. Incoming waves until the end. (Endless is not needed) just make it hard enough not to make it endless instead it getting bored after doing an endless waves system, Then you forget about the gamemode itself lol.
sounds good, it’s basically fow being more fun. not sure if you know fortunes of war from vermintide 2, but it worked in a similar concept, each weave had their spawns. including lot of assassins, bosses, packmasters etc. which was also fun to deal and know which weave you were at.
i like your suggestion, up to devs if they wanna put it, but i approve it would be fun adding more skill expression.
especially if they bring back the respawns after timer/weave, where if some player dies, they die forever and can spawn only (in hogtied status) until once the weave is finished thanks to other players/the timer of the next weave procs. which was the same as FoW in VT2. which added more spice for people to clutch and all, hence why more skill expression
Should it get a Survival one, sure, is it something needed right now, maybe.
But I’d prefer to see one happen alongside/after a Chaos Waste mode.
Because FoW, and the 2/3 from Vt1 were kinda long and boring because you remain with the same weapon all game long. I prefer to have it have a CW system letting you upgrade and/or change weapons.
I’m not even talking about Chaos Wastes, It’s not a rougelike mode. My idea is based on survival wave system.
One Area survival map with supply system every 5 waves. While having map supplies for the first 5 waves to survive in, Or be resourceful in your own way. With the free 2 ammo packs in the map and 2 medical packs so it would be still liable. For the next waves if there is weapon spamming or griefing the ammo.
There is also a reward system for every wave until wave 50, But getting there would take alot of time.
Example, Every wave is 8 mins. And until wave 20, Basically you completed it, But if you want to continue and the rest accpet, You can get all the way to wave 50, To get double the resource rewards. (Reward system for penence is not my ideal work, It’s dev choice to add those things like that)
There is also “Surprise System-Wave”, That has chance to occur in 15% chance in any wave. To Surprise the rejects that yet to survive the upcoming waves. The System isn’t allowed to tell the player it happen. But instead it’s came. Know it happen. From chances from anything to happen like bosses come like Karnak family spawn or Scab Captain to spawn, Or random chance to spawn a weak boss into the map.
Stuff like that could make the gamemode replayable, And yet to enjoy, Also not adding leaderboards or scoreboards not to wake up those toxic players.
I wish it was that easy, That devs talk about the idea at least. Or even one comment can really give joy to those who give ideas for the game. “being noticed” lol
Yet to give, The people from all kind from Low levels players and high level players some skill to put on in the gamemode. Getting to wave 20 in Damnation or getting wave 50 in Damnation is worlds apart.
Yeah definitely. I already made a post a while back with a suggestion. Basically it could be dressed up as a psychanium training ground so that it fits in lore.
Then it would be in procedurally generated arenas that you would have to clear and collect the rewards before getting to the next one. Every 5 or 10 there would be a health station and maybe you could cash out any rewards or gamble getting more to continue as the difficulty rises. Bosses could show up too.
Basically Super Smash TV but in Darktide. It would be amazing. Ship it.
I know the issue, Gamemodes can get boring, And i’m currently trying to place more ideas on top of the ideas to make it more replayable for at least 150+ hours. And also make getting resources but also enjoying the gameplay. It’s all about replayablity and a good time waste for hours for players that just want ONE MAP and fight like hell.
My gamemode idea half-endgame is wave 20, And getting into wave 20 is 2.6 hours and wave 50 is 6.6 hours straight for those who are “mentally challanged” lmao.
But talking about a system for survival and interactive survival is also good, But depends on what level and what’s the idea of the survival mode. I would rather a simple killing gamemode with your friends or by yourself.
You got me that Health station idea, Never thought about it. Thinking of Regenerative health station every 10 waves. :0
Cashing out system for my idea is based on leaving wave 20. But losing a wave still rewards the players for even trying. Every wave rewards the players but it grows more and more the more you get to higher waves. For 8 mins gameplay. Rewards are given even if you lose.
Thanks! And yeah the med stations could stop appearing after a few arena passes, then it becomes true survival.
Some of the procedural arenas could be simply dodging and avoiding assault course or platforming dangers. Doesn’t always have to be enemies but they could be mixed in too.
Like maybe an arena has spiked walls that close in or maybe 1 arena has floor times that disappear with spikes underneath, whilst trying to fight hordes.
This way it keeps players moving and the threat is the arena as much as the waves of enemies.
If you have played Super Smash TV on the SNES then you’ll see what I’m getting at. It would fit a modern FPS so damn well that I am now shocked that it’s not been done already.
Darktide would be such an incredible fit for this game type.
Sadly, Talking about Environment damage is kinda off, Not fun and also annoying overall, Darktide has really slow movement, Combining Super Smash and FPS is not even good, From replayablity and enjoyment. I would recommend you a whole game if you like this stuff, Like Doom Eternal.
