Does Darktide need a new gamemode? (A look forward)

-Survival - (Classic Horde Mode)

This would be the best option for the series. Allowing FS to re-use big parts of each map to spawn waves of enemies. Throw in a 40k twist by having the team defend “Capture Points” to hold unique objective throughout the defendable area. At the start of each wave or “Command Phase” 3 objectives are randomly generated to complete as side objectives earning the team “Command Points” to spend at a terminal for unique “Strategem” abilities. I think if done right, this blend of tabletop and horde can be a nice nod to 40k and set the horde mode apart from other shooters.

The new modes they introduced in Vermintide didn’t hit the mark and the most fun is still with the campaign maps and deeds for those missions. Putting the obvious blemishes with Darktide aside (crafting/performance/initial expectations) I’m curious what the community thinks if a different game mode would benefit Darktide moving forward?

Thanks!

Need? Yeah. Darktide needs a lot more content before we can call it saturated.

A Survival mode would be, to put it bluntly, friggin awesome!!

Survival mode would be cool. I like that in the new map we got a combination of several existing objectives throughout the map, that little bit of extra complexity makes a huge difference.

Said this in another thread but I want more missions that show some escalation in the conflict. Drop us in behind enemy lines during an active battle, escort a Leman Russ convoy through cramped streets, more involved assassination missions, that kind of thing

i never really liked fatshark’s interpretation of horde survival modes

other games like KF2 do it a lot better, the weapon hierarchy allows for more satisfying progression in an round, i would be down if they moved away from the way’s they designed horde mode in V2, and V1, and went with a mode that allows for tons of upgrades like in the KF2 or Cod games

Agree. KF2 and CoD are great. A horde mode that focuses on you trying out other weapons would be nice.

Id like to point out the new Starship Troopers: Extermination, I hope FS look at what Offworld Industries are doing with the Alpha/Roadmap/Feedback and take notes.

In the future, yes

Both Chaos Waste and a (proper) Horde mode.

I think he Chaos Waste system could give a good start to it

Careful, brother. They took notes from DRG for their map selection process and looked what happened.

Fatshark is better representation of the Monkey’s Paw than 343 was.

The perfect hand

IMO chaos wastes was the best part of vermintide and i was super surprised they didn’t just do that for the missions. Dynamically stringing together tilesets, connected by ascenders and elevators in multiple places. Forcing the players to navigate through the maze like hive to make it to some tough objective or set of objectives and then fight their way to a final extraction.

VT2 had that one holdout map too.

I hope they add more interesting sections in future missions.

At the moment, most of the time it’s defeat enemies and move onto next section.

Example of what sections they already had in missions which are fun:

  • Hit 3 branches, break the core of growth whatever you call that thing.
  • Steal ammo and carry to ship
  • Scan random objects
    etc

I like in the 2 new missions the alarm gauntlet with endless horde and latest mission where someone has to chose to be carrier of power cell to extraction. Wish those sections lasted longer.

Anyone remember Left 4 Dead 2 mission where everyone to scramble in different directions to find petrol cans to fill up a car to extract. I think that was in a shopping mall mission section.

Felt like a mini game in itself.

I would take the RNG in the game and turn it into a semi shameless mock up of Mann vs Machine in TF2, Chaos Wastes and the Fortunes of War mode.

The Emperor protects, those who remember to collect a map currency from slain waves of enemies. A merchant servitor operates a booth that lets you switch weapons, as well as change loadout. All weapons have pre selected perks and are actually decent. His main function is to add +10 to a modifier with the money you collect. If you’ve played TF2 MVM you know exactly where I’m going with this, the stats are maxed at 200% of base value or something silly so we’d be able to make Stubbers with 300+ round magazines and the like.

You’ll need these upgrades to survive later waves. Also, you have no feats and must acquire them randomly with upgrade shrines, which deactivate randomly. Turning them back on could let monsters and other nonsense loose like power outage or pox pups.
