Remember when Fatshark promised a new class every quarter?

now here´s the thing and i know it´ll get mangled with how payed cosmetics are handled right now,

but i´d be totally fine with purchasing significant additions ( and i mean significant ) to the game.

as far as i understand vermintide 2 has payed addons and the playerbase is still large enough to get matches going.

and yes, they advertised darktide to have free content updates, which we got, sorta, but having the option i´d chose buying an addon i like and play at my hearts content.

heck i buy mcfarlane figures out of boredom sometimes so spending 100€ on the game or yet another cluster of background figures, what the hell am i selling my lifetime for in the first place if not endulging in my base desires

i miss the time when games came with sizeable addons like tnt and plutonia for doom, the same size of the main game in terms of maps.

granted games gotten more complex over the years and ain´t done in 2 years from scratch, but surely the tools to create content are already there and if it helps to pay more salaries and churn out 20+ maps a pack i´d chime in with 50+€
(i know, unrealistic numbers but still, i just love to play darktide  )

I think I would prefer the archetype. There are complaints still about criss-crossing the three branches of each archetype; to add more branches, I think, would exacerbate this.

A budding idea in my head is to have multiple sets of trees for each archetype that you can switch to. Would be a good way to get more variety for the Psyker beyond lightning, head-popping, and psychic flames. Get some pyromancy and biomancy in there. I’ve no idea whether this would truly add variety or not, but, hey, it popped into my head a few minutes ago.

Edit: To expand on this for clarity, you have the current three of the Zealot as set 1, then set 2 would have Crusader, Redemptionist, Hive Ganger. Maybe the Veteran’s set 2 would have Imperial Navy Armsman, Special Weapons user, Feral Worlder. And so on and so forth.

Rather than leaping to a full Sister, a Novitiate who has been passed on to the Inquisition to go through her penance for insert starting crime here would be a very strong and suitable option. If you go by the Kill Team set, they would only have access to the sorts of weaponry the rest of the Rejects/Operatives would have along with their own unique Faith-based abilities.

This was before the class overhaul came and they released all 12 “classes” in one skill tree per character, 3 each…which i and i think alot of others vastly prefer. Now you can freely pick between which grenade, ult and keystone. They went a different route with it…a better route in my opinion and they were NOT cagy about it.

If you want to bash FS for something the list of things is longer then an ogryn’s arm. This is not one of them.

But then you’ll have people complain that they can’t use Tree 1 Branch 3 with Tree 2 branch 2, etc…

The way I’d see it work would (narrative wise) would be for all the Sister Reject to come from a specific Moebian Domain Ordo, “Daughter of Messelina”, said Ordo would not be a Militant one, but still have some sort of martial training as they usually do.

This would serve as the common background (Vet: Imperial Guard; Zealot: Ministorum), and let them use most (if not all) current worlds that they’ve proposed (except Cadia), and prepare the 3 personalities.

In a sense, think of them as the same thing that Grail Knight, Bright Wizard… is in VT2, yes there can be very powerful ones, but there are also much more base line human like too.

I suppose the problem is that you cannot satisfy everyone and that no matter what someone will complain. I think its going to be one of those situations where everyone is going to have a different take. I think, at least, my concept might be a way to add more variety without bloating the existing trees beyond their current state.

I think between our two approaches, they could converge into excellent reasoning behind a Sister being there and in what form they would take. I do think the Novitiate approach would be the best starting point for them in regards to gear/equipment, especially as you cannot just let them have Power Armour and Bolt weapons off the bat. The idea of having an order based around Messelina, most likely founded on Messelina Gloriana itself (or possibly Crucis, as that is the bigger Shrine World) is perfect and I applaud your pointing out that premise.

I can see why you would suggest a non-Militant Order, as otherwise they would most likely already be helping Grendyl out, Hereticus and all that. Alternatively, it could still be a Militant one but is so heavily committed to the Fringe Wars that it cannot extricate to help Grendyl or even knows to come to his aid. Instead, they send what few Novitiates they have in training to aid Grendyl in supplementing the Rejects already gathered up. Either way, this would set solid ground for the character backstories as you point out.

Mechanically, thinking of the Faith concept, perhaps their special is an inversion of how it is currently handled; you build to your Ability and then spend it, although precisely how is beyond my ken.

Either way, perhaps such a conversation is probably beyond the boundary of this thread and it would be apt to start a SoB thread like the one focused on the possibility of introducing Ad Mech.

When will you stop mistaking core combat loop for core gameplay?

I consider Power Armour to be something that shouldn’t happen (except of course through the Commodore shop because gotta sell what you gotta sell)

Having them “start” as Noviciate instead of having each personality be from a different rank then after ward being thrown to the Penal system is more flexible for the VA, as you can have the different voice actors show more of the Sister Orders than just the newbies.

I did make a thread with some think like that previously Archetype Concept: Sister (Act of Faith Heavy)

Basically the Faith would work as an inverse Peril, where it would decrease through damage taken and replenish through kills and coherency (like Toughness) but could be spent on the Blitz and/or specific weapons special

Boom, way ahead of me. Fantastic stuff.

then please endulge me, whats left of the gameplay if you substract the combat?

a few numbers here and there?
the rich dialogue you got with melk/hadron?

no matter how many classes there are, you either shoot or melee until the screen’s empty.

you really think playing as a zealot or veteran makes any difference as a whole and would keep people quitting if the environment remains the same?

been playing doom/2 since 94 and its still fun to this day.

no classes, no “stats”, 8 weapons, endless fun.

go figure.

To be honest, I would not like sisters of battle cause:

  • no male could be such class
  • females are misrepresented in this game and boobs is something important in the sisters of battle :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ogryn are the reverse, so I would consider it mostly fine

As their cosmetics would be done only for the female gender/physionomy I think it would be better done than the genderless things we get.

Would be a way to get Esher gang cosmetics also

Now, a Hive Ganger as the fifth archetype …

pardon my lacking knowledge, but whats arche-typical about them?

chem’ed out aggro punks on zealot level?

For Ganger ?

The thing about them is that it’s a very disparate group. All the followings are Gangers

Of those, 2 are Psykers.

Is it possible to make ganger work, yes, but at the same time it would always end up with wasted potential.

Honestly I see Gangers more as Cosmetics options for the future than an Archetype on its own.

Only thing I’m confused by is that they said talent tree were already being somewhat planned befofe launch, so why would they say a class per quarter? It doesn’t make sense to me. Would’ve been fine if they clarified or said they were working on classes in a different way, but they didn’t.

I would prefer a larger variety of builds on the pre existing classes but I wouldn’t be upset with a new archetype.

Hive Ganger was more of a joke comment, not a serious suggestion, but it could work. If they used the gangs from Necromunda as the starting point and what makes each gang unique (for example, Delaque’s sneakiness, Goliath’s strength, and, say, Van Saar’s techiness - digi-weapons for Blitz anyone?) then they could be a very interesting idea with their own gang identities for Atoma; for example, the Water Cartel.

Also potential for conflict with Zola.

based on the footage, agreed, recognize our “usual suspect rejects”.

oggy even got the leapard pants.

come 4 week-vacation i’ll fire up necromunda hired gun again.

dig the design but apart from being hot chicks in tiger stripes, the footage i saw of hive gangers didnt strike me as possessing an “abnormal talent”

the dog companion was (if you leave dogmeat/fallout out of the overall picture) a "novel idea’ sorta far reaching melee attack with a tail

Classes were their plan B.

They had changed to it shortly before launch cause of issues that they’ve not revealed, so from that changing point they said that they would still plan what they had planned as the tree, but in separate, more manageable chunks, then they decided on taking the plunge, muting themselves and do the tree again.

The problem is that 1 archetype would be ill suited to be able to emulate all Ganger archetypes.

A Tide game where we play as different gangers from each gang against GSC in Hive Secundus for example could work (though idealy it should work more like a Pay Day 40k than a tide game)

Given the things I have seen and cannot unsee on the internet, and especially 40k fandoms, I think you’ll find that there are in fact more people into that than you might imagine.

:sob:
