Apparently, but it’s just stuff a new player will get as well. I can understand not being as upset by it but I stand by it being terrible design/implementation. No vet should ever be worse off than a newcomer, especially not to this degree.
Yes, RNG can still pwn someone with the new chests but even if we’re talking 0.05 vs 0.0000001 (or w/e functionally zero rate it was), that’s pretty substantial. Enough that I’m cheesed to hell about being “punished” for playing the game as it was designed/intended.
@OenKrad I think that’s what they mean by: “If the currently selected hero already has all available hats, a random new, unique hat will be awarded to you.” Hopefully it doesn’t mean for that character but it may very well. I guess that’s an easy way to know when you’ve got everything though.
Isn’t this directly addressed by the daily (or weekly/event) quests? If you played 1-2 hours a day, then you could get an extra couple chests, effectively doubling your commendation rate. Maybe those systems could still be improved, but it’s a start.
Well that’s only true until each character is 30, then aren’t the levels exactly the same xp requirement? So being +50 or +100 doesn’t change your future commendation rate.
Adding challenges for some high +hero level that reward cosmetics seems like a good idea to me.
Except the Backend 1342 that happens constantly for whatever reason, while you’re in the keep; when opening boxes, converting dust, salvaging items, someone joins, taking a step backwards etc.
Other than that, I love this patch!
But did you do something to the difficulty? Legend feels easier, more like Champion now.
Agreed, but newcomers have that too and will be able to access the endgame portion of it fast enough it doesn’t balance things out for us vets.
No, even someone who’s level 10 is at a disadvantage compared to a new player, technically, just obviously a very slight one. Basically, every commendation chest you’ve ever opened = further disparity between you and a new player. 1000 hours before now could be (and often was) worthless from a loot perspective where on a new player, it would be substantial. Never substantial enough, however, to compensate for those first easy chests. For me, those first 150 chests amount to about half my total comm chests opened, for example. No one will ever have enough hours to reduce the impact of those first 150 chests on your overall chest total to a negligible amount, however. W/o a retroactive fix, every newcomer intrinsically has substantially better odds and should acquire loot at a rate that is markedly faster than their veteran counterparts.
Also, even if you hoarded your chests you’re still at a disadvantage compared to a new player due to green dust issues and the fact that any pre-Gear Level 300 chests not opened cut your progress in half.
That could help. On the other hand though, new players will still be able to do that when they hit endgame so it doesn’t offset the fact that everything they open just has better odds and is more fair in general than everything any of us have opened before now.
As much as you have a point, without people like us opening all our chests and pointing out the droprates they might not have had enough of an indication of a very large scale issue for the endgame playerbase, so in a sense your reward is in aiding and hopefully having succeeded in improving the game.
I can sympathize of course, I only recently started saving and have maybe 10 at most sitting, but i’m just happy it’s been addressed and we have something that’s hopefully actually worth sticking time into if we want to pursue something as opposed to 250/1 ratios.
update! 30 commendation chests opened and nothing! this is extremely demotivating, especially when you only get 1 commendation chest every 2-3 legend run witouth failing!
Thanks for the patch Fatshark, hope this fixes most of the sorepoints and allows you to focus more on secondary priorities and fine tuning.
The game is coming along better over time, but I’d still like to request you to review and adjust your communication guidelines where appropriate, both internal and outward communication.
That said hopefully with this major patch this marks the turning point in that, and while my trust feels slightly damaged you still have it. Keep up the good work.
Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I fully understand the value of us having opened the chests from FS’ perspective. They got the playtesting information they sorely needed. This is also why this situation is so frustrating though. I’m happy for new players, obviously, but as a vet I feel used. It’s just poor customer service and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
I equate it to if you were at a job making a certain amount of money than the company says, “we made a mistake, you should have been making this much more money,” but they just correct the issue moving forward so new hires get the correct amount but you don’t get backpay. I think in that situation, most people would be livid. I understand it’s a game, not a job, but the same applies here in endgame.
Does anyone know if there’s actually going to be a way to work towards red items? Currently it seems the best you can do is get chests, which doesn’t help you get the item you want. I don’t see anything in quests/challenges that’s designed around letting you work to get something you actually want.
With it saying “rewards in the form of loot chests, skins, hats, and portrait frames” it sounds like maybe not? But, to be fair, it also sounds like reds have been made a lot more common so I’ll have to wait to pass judgment on the overall effectiveness. No more red dupes should make a big difference.
Edit: Wait… they did make it so we don’t get red dupes anymore right? Not seeing it in the patch notes…
euh…
97 commendations opened 0 cosmetics found…
it doesn t matter but it feels like you are fooling your audience with "LADIIIIESS AND GENTLEMEEEN YOU WANTED IT !!! HERE IS 100!!! HHHUUUUUNDRRRREEEEEDS!!! MWAAHAHA…
…come on…you are…euh…shoes seller? french politics? or what.? .just don t do that maybe ? …it s not a big deal. it doesnt worth the bad commercial
most important as i process craps and scaps from 97 commendations i reached now my …5th crash.
good old backend error etc…
1.08 was nice and necessary. thank you for that.
hope you stayed focus on the essential and not try to divert us with more bunnies from the hat.
i think long time player dont care about hats…they want deeds, achievement, challenges…
But for the “seasonned player” who will feel bitter “man im gone cry i wasted my collection of kinder eggs thinkin they would finally let us change pant in this game…” well i would suggest to implant a system similar to what we had in daily challenge board, more or less, player work their ass to get a hat as reward.
it will close the debate eventually on RNG drop rate etc…
and you would avoid hurting yourself in backfire (i expect comments shooting like a ratling through walls)
looking foreward to have the dedicated server i pre purchased the game for and waitin for more than…i would say 600 gaming hours…
that would be a small revolution. maybe. if you do it properly. if it s not a trick…
have a good continuation
Thanks for the dust converter and mods support
I just noticed that cosmetics are actually salvageable(you can put them in the salvage items box, so I assume the game will have no problem letting you destroy them). Please remove the ability to salvage cosmetics so players don’t accidentally destroy them.
Super awesome patch, thanks FS! Downloading it now and stoked to check out Okri’s Challenges. New cosmetics and buffed drop rates are pretty exciting too.
I didn’t hoard chests so I’ll just be earning as I go but looks like Okri’s Challenges will be a great source for more comm chests as well as fun. I don’t really get why people are so upset about opening all their chests already; oh bummer, all you have to show for it are the hours of fun and your expert skill as a legend player, lmao. Unless you’re planning to quit the game after you get your cosmetics, you’re still going to be playing anyway and you’ll get them eventually. Plus if you are that concerned about getting cosmetics/reds and spend any time on this forum it should have been an obvious choice to hoard chests while drop rates were still being tweaked and more items were still being added…
They didn’t, I’m not sure how I feel about the red dupe situation yet. Having multiple of the same red can be nice for different builds… just for example I’ve been testing out Hagbane on all three Kerillian careers and ideally I’d have different properties / traits for each one. Plus a dupe hagbane would be nice for trying out new things; use the new bow for experimenting and leave the old one in a good spot.
On the other hand, dupes are sometimes really frustrating for obvious reasons. Especially when it’s a weapon I don’t use at all… Maybe dupe protection where you can get no more than 2x of an item?
Yea, luckily mods are a thing soon now that support is in. Favoriting items is a big thing I want, which bow do I use which bow do I salvage, same for staff’s, they’re difficult to keep apart at times… Luckily only salvaged the wrong item once so far ._.
oh waaa…no, crafting is dead.
crash every 2 craft. every 3 upgrade. every 5 roll…more or less.
my green dust problem is gone…but crafting is dead.
it s like an eternal joke…
