Okay Fatshark.......Chaos Wastes looks fantastic

The update hit now, i ran expeditions up to the citadel and it was mediocre at best. On legend the maps are super empty until you get swarmed at one of the “last stand” events, the maps themself look boring and some of them just use assets from the already existing maps. After three expeditions, i have also seen like 90% of what CW can offer. Maybe even already 100%. It certainly is a better mode than weaves, but nothing to cheer on.

How long did they need to make this kind of content and how long do we have to wait for new proper content again? Why dont they just make new maps? It worked in V1, the dlc maps were glorious. Why do we get such weird content updates in V2?

The weapons are nice, but that i never doubted to begin with.

The saddest part about all of this is the fact that their aprils fools joke would have actually been a great update for the game. But hey man, at least you can now look like a clown as Bounty Hunter.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s possible there will be more tweaks to Chaos Wastes from here on. I too found the maps were mostly empty (reminiscent of that weird feeling low tier Weaves have), but I think Fatshark may have purposefully undertuned enemy spawns to soften the initial impact of not having gear. I think we’ll get the best picture of how the released version of Chaos Wastes looks after about a weak. If nothing else this update brings a bit of life to the game and possibly new fun stuff for modded (some of the boons are neat).

I’m enjoying the new weapons more than I expected so far (I’m surprised by the Griffonfoot for Saltz, never though I’d like a shotgun but now I do) so I think we all have some common ground here.

I can’t source this, so take it with a grain of salt, but I’ve read that continuing to release maps wasn’t economically viable for Fatshark.

Yeah, i am pretty sure tweaks will be made but i dont expect much. Maybe they will develope new small areas for it over time, but that also means no new actual maps, considering how long it took for them to develope this mode with rather underwhelming map pieces.

The weapons are indeed enjoyable and the new mechanic of the bow gives hope for maybe more “magic” weaponry.

In regard to releasing maps being not economically viable seems correct when i think about another statement that creating maps takes apparently up to 9 months. On the other hand its weird to say its not economically viable when they just released a new mode for free, or considering the Drachenfels maps who were also for free. If Fatshark needs more money to make maps, then they should price their content a little higher. I can say many bad things about Fatshark, but their pricing policy is one of the things i wont complain about. I would actually pay more if they would create new maps again. Wouldnt have a problem with paying 20 bucks for 3-4 maps instead of the 10 bucks we paid in V1.

I’m in the same boat. I’d pay more for just new maps. They’ve demonstrated that they can produce good quality content (I’m not saying that CW isn’t good content). However, I can’t say if that’s what everyone else in this community would want. I’ll let others chime in from here I think, instead of suffocating the thread like I usually do.

No, it did not work in Vermintide 1. That is the whole point. You can still see today that the review (and subsequently the buyership numbers) went down with each DLC released (more or less). New maps are simply not worthwhile. Especially if you consider strange arguments like this:

That should equal about 3 hours and as such six maps. If this update would have six adventure maps, you would have seen about 100 % of the new content in the same time. Chaos Wastes has a far higher replay value than any released map for adventure mode will ever have. You don’t like it? That is okay. There are elements not everyone may like. But at least make arguments that make sense.

I can also not confirm empty maps. Did not have this happen. The mode is more worthwhile than adventure mode. And the maps are diverse and simply fantastic. There are times where you are getting a map you played before and you cross minimal or even no known areas to before.

To add on to the “empty maps” issue, we even had an event that had a big “Your enemies are endless, escape” type of objective, but it was spawning like groups of 5-10 skavenslaves every 10s or so. It was pretty pathetic lol, especially on cata.

I’d really much rather have my normal build but have to fight stuff that starts at normal cata level and scales well above it, over not having the stuff I normally would and having to fight mini-hordes.

All V1 map DLCs are positively reviewed, ranging from Very Positive to Mostly Positive - none got mixed or mostly negative reviews. Ergo, the map DLCs worked for V1.

It didn’t work for V2 because they went away from the old V1 map DLC formula. V2’s map DLC reviews are: Mixed (SoB), Mostly Positive (BtU), and Mostly Negative (WoM). SoB got mixed reviews - it’s the only map DLC with no new weapons. BtU probably got mostly positive reviews due to the strong art direction and map design of the multiple V1 maps in that DLC, and because it contains new weapons (old V1 map DLC formula). WoM has only one new map (the least out of all the map DLCs) and is the most expensive DLC. It got mostly negative reviews. It would probably have gotten higher reviews if it had 1 or 2 more maps.

I haven’t heard of this. Do you remember if the statement you’ve read was made before or after the release of WoM? Fatshark had a good thing going on with BtU, but lost momentum with WoM.

I was talking about the quantity of reviews, not the score. The later DLC’s have very few reviews and subsequently didnt have many people buy them. Which is kinda an issue if you want to stay economic.

Let’s not forget Plague Toads of Nurgle.

Large enough to swallow a man whole, these daemons could be medium range monsters that strike players with their tongue to draw them closer in order to bite them.
Players must dodge or block the tongue to avoid getting dragged. Getting dragged enters a struggle where players can mash the attack button to get free, or be saved by a friend striking the tongue or hitting the toad with a bomb or Kruber’s knightly charge.
They can leap around with ease and landing on players causes knockdown but no damage. They have to start walking to begin attacking, inching towards players at a leisurely but threatening pace.
They can also spawn 1-2 clouds of filthy flies that deals slight damage over time (5 damage), though these clouds of flies can be avoided or dispersed by attacking them once.

Really Adelion? No empty maps. Wow, then you are the only one who hasnt experienced that, because everyone i played with on legend and on cata said otherwise. Everyone. I know you and i know your statements on the steam forum. You are like the whitest of white knights. Ridiculous.

Then you should maybe read harder. I regularly criticize Fatshark where it is due (mainly balance). All I can speak of at the moment is the preview build from the weekend as I have rather long download times which have kept me from being the released version so far. If there have been changes then so be it.

If you have to call someone “White Knight” because you can’t agree with the arguements, then this is an issue on your side. As said, I criticize where criticism is due and do this often enough. So far I only had an outstanding good experience with Chaos Wastes expansion (preview build).

Yeah that was the event where we had to wait for a boat after ringing a bell. Weirdly low number of spawns and pretty much only Skavenslaves. Ambients and hordes in general were notably chill.

I think it was after WoM.

There’s no need for this. You’ve made points that I think are valid. Let’s hope Fatshark listens.

It’s entirely possible my experiences have been due to lucky spawns, but it does feel fairly sparse at the moment. However, my view on enemy density may be warped due to modded content. It might be inline with what Cata is like currently. I’m not sure either way.

The animation/model could even be somewhat saved for a Squig boss if they end up doing a Greentide game

I seem to remember that’s the case. It was used by fatshark as a reason why they departed from the VT1 model, which as @hollerbach said, has always been very well received.

Regardless, FS has since moved away from that stance, realizing we do bloody love them - we got FREE drachenfels - and so there should probably be no reason they can’t follow the VT1 map formula, but with the maps being free and weapons and cosmetics being paid content, like they are doing now. If I understand @theppekausen complaint, it was not at the marketing of CW - free with payed weapons/cosmetics - but rather its content: new game mode vs adventure maps.

EDIT: I don’t totally get why they want a new gamemode so much (maybe it’s better or more interesting for new players) and this one is fun, but there should be no reason - marketing wise - why we couldn’t get the same deal for future map-packs.

I know, right? I don’t understand what is up with people on the Steam forums… nothing but negativity, say you like this and the neg-heads will descend on you like flies on a bologna sandwich. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I finally found my way back here.

also the one in a forest like area where it just outright says “escape”, and I’ve seen similar on a few of the “disrupt the ritual” type events in other games. the difficulty seems to scale very weirdly, you go ages with nothing but skaven slaves and clanrats, and then it throws 8 chaos warriors at you.

not too hard or anything, outside some of the situations where it can literally just spawn a patrol on top of you, but it is a bit jarring.

You just can’t make some pple happy:
they put a pricetag on it and its a ransom;
they don’t put a pricetag on it and its suspicious.

For some reason majority of other games and it’s communities tend to be really happy about their games and devs. Vermintide is like the second game ever with this situation on my experience. The other game is Dota and, to be fair, Valve are known for doing wrong stuff too so it makes sense. It’s about the devs, not people.

If FS paid some people to download a DLC, they would demand more money…

I believe this can happen in first two expedition maps, but it’s not a big deal.
