Let's talk about mods

I think the HP bar mod work just like the one in Psykhanium so you don’t actually see all enemy health bar through wall isn’t it?

Then It would only show the health bar of enemy that have been damaged and will fade away after a while.

HP bar is definitely not in the spirit of the Tide games and very much unwelcome to me.

Then again, graphical feedback on enemy health by changing their appearance would be very welcome.

Yes, there is a difference between the two.

I bet you good money you will lose just as much with HP bars enabled as you would without.
In fact, I argue you will make worse decision making because you will focus so much attention on it instead of the actual situation at hand.
And no, I play the game completely unmodded. Among other things because I don’t like the hassle of changing settings up over and over whenever the game gets a hotfix or patch (which is what modders will be doing in all likelihood).

I strongly disagree it isn’t an advantage, but putting that aside, you can at least see how jarring and against the actual spirit of the game it is right? Some things shouldn’t be an option frankly.

I mean literally Killing Floor 1 and 2 had an entire class dedicated to making hp bars pop up and revealing special enemies but people still managed to get ran up on / killed.

The one thing i can agree on is that it kind of seems a bit out of left field as far as lore / spirit goes but a lot of the examples provided seem to side step the reality that in many of the stated examples knowing the hp amount helps an absolutely nill amount and i think it’s drastically overstating the importance of them besides being able to tell if you hit a ghost hit or not but even if people don’t see the hp they swing/shoot until the thing dies anyways. I doubt there would be a huge change in playstyle and overall it seems like it’s mostly useful for telling if you net is dropping shots and you need to keep firing (which Fat Shark should fix anyways)

Even tho i haven’t bothered with mods on this game yet and likely wouldn’t use the hp bars since I would find them annoying i really don’t see how being able to see the thig is much different than spamming middle mouse minus hp bars above shooters which as stated above would get really god dam annoying due to the sheer number on H+ games. Maybe a reaper will be easier to target down but again, it’s not like the hp pools are huge anyways and the things with big hp pools like the plague ogryn and beast get an hp bar anyways.

I don’t really care either way beyond what starting to crack down on mods might do to player count and if they end up forcing mods to shut down while not improving the qol of the base game.

If the mod works anything like the psykhanium, then you shouldn’t be able to actually see hp bars until you damage the target. So it wouldn’t give wall hacks or pinpoint sniper location etc.

Lol, i duoed every non-assassination map with a friend, some on HI. That’s not a skill issue. Saying you wouldn’t have an easier time with the information the mod gives on the other hand is one.

Oh, that shield has a damage cap. That’s why. I think something like 10% of total shield health per hit or somesuch.

I never use mods myself but I’m fine if everyone else is using them it dosn’t bother me too much. Bit worried fat shark will be lazy about implementing things that should have been in the game and where later modded by the community instead.

@fatshark.

I hope your keeping an eye on the mods people make and thinking about adding some of it to the game properly yourself.

The trick is, the moment you hear the sound que for a sniper you then start dodging until you hear the shot is fired

Going to be honest all this discussion around it makes me feel like it should just be a part of the base game and not be a mod…

You know since there is a lot of assumptions being made about how the hp bars work i decided to actually look for a video and i gotta ask, is this really what people were freaking out about?

As stated most things are dying fast enough that it doesn’t matter if you see their hp or not. Personally i wouldn’t use it because GOOD GOD THE UI CLUTTER.

I guess the most compelling statement about it giving a definitive advantage is being able to tell if you are hitting a pox hound or not and tracking where something is through fire but a tag system already exists for the game and so do hit markers. It feels more like people are needlessly mad because of some perceived game changing advantage over the actual impact it has during the moment to moment gameplay.

On top of that, again, it’s not exactly ALL upsides to installing something like this

Mountain out of a molehill.

Yea i dont think videos express the mod accurately because the mod gives you options of what has healthbars and how they appear. Someone chose to put healthbars on the poxwalkers for fun im guessing and then posted a video for gullible people who dont do their research such as you.

There was no reason to be so vitriolic, you could’ve just corrected him and said you have options for what has health bars or not.

you can toggle off everything except elites, specials, and monsters. helps with the clutter

and no, you can’t wallhack with this. It’s just neat to see the damage you’re doing to stuff.

I’m sorry i don’t do apa research into something i don’t think is a big deal?

Did more than anyone else in the thread.

Thanks for this, you proved exactly the points I made earlier. It’s not even a real advantage and can actually distract rather than help.

I mean… the game has almost no content, and we all know that FatShark are terrible about QoL, being very slow to implement it, if ever. We should all be happy that mods exist, regardless of if we use them or not, or if we think they give some small advantage or not. Hell, there are aimbots for this game (like most games). I don’t think it’s worthwhile arguing over healthbars…

I tried it… and removed it… It makes things ugly and doesn’t change my choices.

I don’t think anyone is really against the mod themselfs. Its more that some of these mods can really become bit problematic if the advantage they give is something truly noticeable.

On that topic, I finally had time to play and actually try and test out this mod, so let’s talk about realistically what this mod does.

First off the options for this mod are actually lot less powerful than the one in vermintide2. Which honestly is a good thing because this for me clears out most of my problems I might have had with this.
You can basically only set which types of enemies have HP bar on or OFF and nothing else.

Secondly the big one that has been argued over, the wall hack aspect. From my limited use i can say the HP bars only appear when you actually damage enemies, so sniper such as the one in my example picture below will still remain stealthy. (Unless offcourse tagged by veterans ability  )
The HP bar range is actually decently far but you kind of have to look at the general direction of something to see how it moves.

So basically what information does this mod ACTUALLY GIVE YOU?
I tells you if enemy is damaged, and what HP it is at, if you have damaged a dog and it scurries off, it will have HP bar following it when you aim close to it. Same for snipers who you shoot once and move off you can follow them easier.
It is actually easier to notice if something is getting focused by autogun fire/las fire when in some situation’s you might mistake the target.

Do I think its a problematic mod after trying it out now? Honestly meh. Its actually lot less than I originally expected and the amount of misinformation flying around is insane.
I’m more leaning towards that its probably fine as it is from gameplay/balance perspective. It definitely gives information advantage that you cannot have otherwise.

From immersion perspective its a totally different debate. The simplest answer would be to not use or heavily limit the enemies that show HP bars. Cop out answer I know but I really cannot see fatshark banning this one either.
