Mod thoughts from a 1000+ hour series x player

Darktide has been my main game since it came out on gamepass and i still love it!
But sometimes it feels like PC players and us peasants are playing different games because of mods lol. If i was on PC i would ofc use it as well!
When i see YouTubers play it they have;

Healthbars on enemies, which makes it much easier to prioritize.

They get notified when specialists spawn, how many, and which one. They can even keep a tally on how many!

They can have visible spidey senses in different colours to better locate threats.

They have much better UI that includes exact timer for abilities.

Range indicators on medipaks and poxbursters.

  • many more

Both Bethesda and Larian has mods on console so i wonder if there is a chance for us peasants to atleast get the most popular ones?
I can still hold my own in maelstrom and havoc but these mods would be a gamechanger!

They need to put a mod “store”.
Paradox did that in Cities skylines II.

Considering how much time Fatshark need to change one little thing, I would not bet on this…

game is pretty playable without mods, I generally dont run any. I think many of them give players significant advantages however, but it also feels a bit outside the spirit of the game.

I would love to see official mod support instead of having to go through nexus, and I would also like to see mods monitored a bit more.

I feel for the console players not having access to mods because essentially all QoL features I use several times each play session are from mods.

To this day, mods provide more QoL for the game than any additional QoL features that were implemented by the devs.

There’s obviously mods that have certain gameplay advantages but I personally don’t find them so strong that they help you bridge skillgaps.

Official mod support would be nice, like through the steam workshop etc… I’m not sure why this hasn’t been pushed yet…

Honestly i think the only mods that is actually worth getting is the weapon customization (for changing ironsights) and scoreboard and maybe the meatgrinder one. Everything else is negligible with use that is largely overblown/overrated.

Why would it be? Modders already have a way to mod the game, so adding an official support for them would be redundant and a waste of time. I’d rather they work on new content.

As for consoles… Im a selfish prick with a vendetta against consoles so i say &%@# em. They had 20 years of exclusive games, now we have all the toys for a change, let them taste the other side of the sandbox.

Mods are a great way to customize and enhance gameplay which really boosts the customer experience…just saying FS. True Level, Scoreboard are must have’s IMO. FS be cool to the peasants and give them mod support!

steam workshop auto updates mods, would be nicely baked in

If you think about it, there’s a pretty easy way you could start using mods: Stop buying games on console lol

The average mod user uses tops 2-5 mods, of which only like 1 would need to be updated once every blue moon.
Hardly an annoyance. I’d rather save fatshark’s devs time even if it would only take 2 hours to make the workshop support then save my 2 minutes it would take to update the mods once every 1-6 months.

@gpkgpk

You’re a modder my guy, what’s your take on nexus vs steam workshop?

OTOH, if DT was just on Steam I’d say Workshop for user friendliness and manual/agnostic mod support.
However, given DT is on XBGP, Nexus seems like a good enough way to go for PCs as a neutral default. It’s definitely not fair for consoles not to have access to QoL mods, and it’s doubly unfair for them to be at a disadvantage with the other mods but the solution there is not to give it to them too.

Pipe Dream: I’d prefer in-game platform agnostic mod support with weeekly FS sanctioning and moderation, but not gonna happen in our universe and there are more complications in the mix.

IDK where you’re getting this from, just from what you see on-screen in their vidcaps is 5-10ish.

I have just under 1000 hours on PC and the only mods that really interest me are the ones to spawn things to fight in the practice room and being able to see people’s levels and maybe seeing damage numbers since it can be really hard to tell what you are actually contributing in a game like this.

Currently I just have no mods and I’m sort of happy enough playing like that.

Really, I just think all of that should be added to the base game. And maybe a dodge counter.

but thats also like… an insane level of advantage > console players and people who dont want to mod. Running new and improved iron sights, spidey sense, and a lot of other mods showing buff uptimes, CDR ect, adds such a significant advantage.

Its kind of like WoW where mods play the game for you, i’ll be honest when I see someone doing some crazy youtube video like a havoc 40 clutch with 20 mods, im not really impressed.

Games like this are fun to me because instinct takes over, when you remove that element it becomes a repetitive chore. V2 had pretty sizable mod oversight, I would love to see that mimiced, if not might as well just let us run cheats.

It really isnt that big of an advantage, no amount of information will ever improve your aim, reflex or intelligence. The game already gives you all the information about your surroundings you need. I do not run any of those mods, only play with scoreboard and weapon cust. and can run auric maelstrom without a problem and never felt that i lack combat info.

You can have all the mods possible but if your reflexes suck then you will die regardless.
No amount of mods will ever save you from making a dumb decision like pushing too far deep or staying too far behind.
No amount of mods will ever let you overcome an out of control horde.
No mods will dodge a trapper’s net or a dog’s pounce for you.

Actually do not forget that consoles have built-in cheats called “auto-aim” or “aim-assist”.

This is super disengenious I run 0 mods (currently) and have done multiple TS runs, I can tell you right now mods will and have in the past trivialize a lot of things.

The game is way easier with just spidey sense, and thats just one of a multitide of good mods.

Hrm, I’m not sure “fair” really is relevant in this context.

The game doesn’t discriminate between platforms on this count, the platforms themselves do. Not every platform supports every feature. Console’s are relatively inexpensive next to a gaming PC, but you have dramatically less ability to do things with them, and Mods historically are one of those things. Darktide was developed for and launched originally on PC, and the functionality there works fine, the fact that a gaming console won’t let you access the functionality necessary to mod the game is one of those things console players typically forego in order to take advantage of less expensive systems that require less user setup and management.

Mods being made available on consoles are a relatively new thing, and developer support for such is typically are only available for games where mods and user generated content are a big central part of the draw to begin with, and these tend to be single-player focused sandbox games (e.g. as noted by OP, Bethesda and Larian, with Fallout/TES/BG), and even then consoles play 2nd fiddle to PC’s in terms of what’s available and the extent of things they can do. Other 4 person coop games like DRG and Helldivers and the L4D games don’t offer mod support on consoles either as far as I’m aware.

The big issue with Darktide really is that there’s too many QoL things that shouldn’t need to be mods, that should just be part of the base game.

Off topic but… Consoles were always more expensive then PC’s. Its consoles that need to be bought every few years to keep up with new games. With PC’s you can use a 10 year old GPU/CPU to play a completely new game like god of war meanwhile you need to shill out 500$ to buy the new console to play the one new game you wanted.

The only reason consoles still exist instead of dying out like they should was because of exclusive games.
