Let's talk about mods

Thanks for taking the time to write this up. Having used the mod a bit I agree with all you say. Conceptually, yes it’s an advantage. In real game terms, it probably has a negligible impact at the end of the day, other than cluttering up your screen and wrecking immersion.

The only way it helps me is I save a few bullets bc I know precisely when something is dead and not just staggered on the ground or at the start of their death animation but still standing.

The UI is ridiculous if you have health bars turned on for all enemy types, although by default it’s just elites and specialists, which is useful and relatively unobtrusive:

(Left screen is running healthbars mod.) Most important thing to note is that it follows the same display rules as the psykhanium health bars, i.e. the bars only appear when an enemy is damaged. It is legit useful for prioritization, especially in a hectic environment where it’s hard to mentally track how much of a beating each elite has gotten.

I think that’s fair. Tell the truth im somewhat used to stuff like hp bars but for me it’s more of a case where the way it displays is kinda obnoxious to me (it’s a personal preference thing, i can’t explain it, maybe the animated numbers).

I just really think overall my point was compared to all the issues listed in the game and current development time trends going “FS remove this” really isn’t a priority due to how small an impact it has and opens the door for removing some really good QOL mods like the numerical hp bars.

Only real difference in gameplay I see is that the left side gives me strong MMO vibes and the right side doesn’t.

Since the default loop of the game is that you usually finish off whoever you attack anyway and that you delete half of the hostile roster in seconds, means that it does not make a difference.

With the mod on, the combat somehow reminds me of Final Fantasy, especially FF7 Remake, more so than an MMO. (Possibly contributing to this impression is that Tertium is a bit like a grimmer, darker Midgar…)

I find it does make a difference, in terms of 1) prioritization and 2) being able to easily locate elites/specials within a horde. It’s not a huge difference, but it is a benefit for sure. For example, if there’s three mutants charging around and throwing everyone, it’s really nice to be able to see exactly how much life each one has left – which mutant do I go for? can I kill the mutant rushing me with a single heavy strike, or do I need to dodge? Or if there’s a “wall of metal” incoming (mixed crushers, bulwarks, maulers etc) and it’s not clear what the most injured target in the group is. (In a way, that video is a terrible example because both POVs are running flamers, which requires a lot less prioritization than other weapons – if you see a wall of metal, you just turn on braced fire and melt everything in front of you.)

Again, not a huge advantage or game breaking, but it’s definitely useful imo, in a similar way as e.g. being able to see the numerical health and ammo of your teammates is useful, or cranking up your FOV is useful. It’s just more information being presented to you so you can make better decisions.

You are thinking way too rational about this. Most people here do.
When the chips are down, you’re surrounded by a Horde and 5 different maulers are hacking away at you, you’re not going to sit there like a snobby chess player in pyjamas going “I will move my Peasant to D3”.
No. You can’t tell me that.

Idk what to tell you, I actually do use it to help prioritize. Yeah it’s mostly fast twitch stuff but I definitely will go for the low health bar etc.

I feel like it has to be said in this thread - whatever advantage you think this mod is giving doesn’t really matter, because people without the mod are not “losing”. This isn’t a pvp game, we’re all just clearing a map and get the same rewards at the end.

Have you guys actually ever used the mod, or looked at how it works?
I ask, because it does not seem like it.

The HP bars are only shown for enemies that have taken damage within the past few seconds.
Also, the health bars disappear as soon as environment blocks the line of sight to the enemy.
The mod does not let you magically detect anything through walls or anything like that.

Yes you will see hp bars of elites that are mixed into a horde, but you can see elites anyway, because they are taller than trash minions.
