FS Please say something or rethink your PR

I didn’t get an opportunity to participate in the closed beta, hence I spoke to what I had knowledge of: paid participation in a beta.

I get the suspicious feeling that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone to agree that the game launched in a finished state…

Did either of the betas prevent the game launching fully broken and unplayable for a huge amount of people?

Did either of the betas prevent the game from launching in a 20% finished state, missing ALL significant systems?

Did either of the betas, after seeing the enormous amounts of problems, delay the release date?

There’s betas and there’s betas. The CBT and pre-order beta for Darktide was 20% checking server stability and other issues, and 80% marketing ploy.

Who said it did?

Edit: I don’t disagree, but I also don’t think this fact negates that the pre-order beta happened and surfaced feedback that FS then acted on. My belief/main point on this topic is just that FS does take and react to player feedback, even outside of the handpicked, private group of play testers.

I think we’ve seen that (if nowhere else, which I don’t actually believe) in the toughness functionality change and the (separate) fire change.

Hopefully the itemization changes will prove this point as well.

It’s been a while, man, like two years since then. I don’t remember much of it. I can’t tell you how things played out during the whole “Beta” stuff for Darktide.

no comment

I think the only thing that could have prevented that would have been a delay, and people we’re already angry at the 2 previous ones

Considering how long that beta lasted it was really difficulty to even give anything meaningful in terms of feedback.
I would consider myself to be pretty decent leveler and i only had time to play like 1 game of heresy in those 2 days.
Hardly worthy for anything other than reporting the obvious bugs and connection issues.

If it’s okay with you I would like to discuss something that you can, possibly, potentially, maybe, comment on; which is: how is feedback from here handled. Does any of the parties involved in the playtesting groups read anything that is posted here and relay it for playtesting purposes.

I mean… his only post on DT forums was a single bug posting. Don’t think he’s been to the forums in a year.

Anyway what you’re describing would presumably be CM job, not unpaid tester job.

Maaan. Those guys don’t even interact with us.

I usually hang out in the discord as opposed to the forums, as stated I haven’t visited here in like a year. I pass on feedback where I catch it, if it’s a particularly common sentiment.

Also yeah FS has systems for collecting feedback generally. The forums are actually one of the better places to dump feedback as far as visibility goes

Fair enough. I was hoping to get some hot scopes on Fatshark’s inner workings

I’m honestly not aware of anything particularly juicy in that regard, I just know they get feedback from the same systems most studios use (telemetry, data aggregation etc.). As for how it’s handled once they have it, I can only put that down to fatshark magic…you could give me 1 million years and zero NDAs and I’d still not be able to explain why certain things (like recon lasgun or power maul) are the way they are lmao

I appreciate your time nonetheless. Thank you.

That wasn’t intended as a shot at you, rather as a separate, more general statement that most of us felt Darktide could have used more time in the oven to implement feedback and actually complete features before officially launching.

I should have worded that differently or clarified otherwise since it’s immediately after a thought that was directed your way.

judging from how few of the playerbase actually play auric maelstrom, i fear this to be true.

though i’d also confess my bias towards certain loadouts/talents, i aint my best right now getting the ranged penances for ogryn done.

lots of people find it preferable and do well while for some reason the stubber gameplay doesnt “connect”.

still in that particular case it’s a “me” problem and with the magic powers of unemployment like 25 years back it wouldnt be a thing

that doesn’t excuse the wet noodle thats the power maul or certain talents to be far out of their league come auric maelstrom.

these seem to be remnants of the “good enough for malice” quality check and gotten waved through.

I know this is a bit of an old comment (by this thread’s standards) but does that mean that I shouldn’t bother putting anything in the gameplay feedback section of the Forum for anybodies benefit but myself?

Isn’t the existence of that section an “invitation” to provide feedback?

Is there any actual reason to be on the forums at all?

I hate discord, at least for large communities. It’s why I was excited to see FS had a forum other than Discord, especially because I loved the game and wanted to see some changes that I would like (namely the Crucis Thunder Hammer…and the state of the Thunder Hammers atm shows that was for nothing).

But I suppose it would’ve been better to try and get noticed on the discord or not post at all.

oh you are FAR more likely to have your opinion seen by a dev by posting in the forums afaik plus the forum is the primary means for reporting bugs aside from submitting a ticket to support. You can try the discord too but it’s really there for just hanging out and chatting with people and lfgs

the discord is more of a chill space

For the community. We all connected over this game; we’re family now, that’s reason enough to be here. Years later we’re still here posting together =)

The forums and the playtest environment exist to provide different kinds of feedback. Forums are for the live game, playtest is for unreleased content. Devs don’t read the Discord server much as far as I know, aside from the CMs who you can sometimes find chatting in Discord, but the devs do read the forums.

Like Incan said, the ways of the obese megalodon do be mysterious sometimes so I don’t have answers for stuff like “why does it take them 1.5 years to address crafting despite overwhelming feedback coming at them through all channels??” either.
