Seriously, Fatshark. Your itemization update looks really good, everything looks promising and I see a light in tunnel for future of this game. Hell, I see it enough that I would gladly throw some $ to you right now buying some cool looking cosmetics.
But I can’t. Your FOMO makes me unable to find products I would like to purchase and give you money. Becasue of your FOMO, there is fat chance that I will burn out again in game before any cosmetic that looks good for me will be available.
Time to move from FOMO to normal Catalogue-like Store like Vermintide 2.
Lol, why would I wait? I will play game, burn out and move to another game without spending money I will just not buy skin like before. I am not vulnerable to FOMO. They don’t want my money, fine with me. I bought every skin in Vermintide 2 for example because I love the game. Didn’t buy even one here becasue of FOMO.
I’ve been using the mod that shows you all the unearned cosmetics in your cosmetic menu - including the premium ones. While yes, there is a lot of reskins, there’s nevertheless a bunch of stuff I would actually buy when looking through all the options. Except of course I can’t because it’s not in rotation and who knows when it will be.
yeah they should have done some kind of store overhaul so people could part with their money larping through the X regiment of Y like 40k is supposed to be about. instead some paste eater thought you’d be more likely to spend money if you saw the same 3 garbage outfits for a month and a half.
Or I just might get frustrated and no longer buy stuff.
The thing is, I have ca. 3 outfits per character which they always wear, (i have assigned builds to certain outfits) , while a lot of skins that sit in the inventory are taken for a ride once for fun and that’s it.
So many people talk about fomo then say it doesnt work, why even talk about fomo when everyone knows the shop will rotate back anyways. In reality, there isnt any fomo going on. Or at least, shouldnt be. Unless someones perseverance is so weak they immediately shake at the sight of a cool skin like a crackhead shakes at the sight of sum crackrock.
Yeah I memed way back about Ogryn having a saw in his head being insanely expensive. Now it’s trickling to everything.
Actually ridiculous.

The store system this many years later still makes no sense to be this way if prices are rising to offset it. It’s a manufactured problem.
They’re really just desperate on relying on drip feeding whales as opposed to allowing players to get what they want, when they want.
Not like it matters cause an item you buy will eventually just have a recolor that may be something you want more and be sold at the same price, or higher.
When they could easily make a color system, they don’t.
I just stopped caring about the cosmetic shop purely for this, I see a Zealot cosmetic I got way back that was red, and now it has a version in black that I’d want more than my red one? Cool. Punish me for being supportive, Fatshark.

I don’t think FOMO was the goal of this system, it’s more or less tricking whales to slowly burn more money with rotations of small selections, than they otherwise would with a massive selection of cosmetics. It’s just predatory business objectively and that’s that.
Like how a monthly subscription of a program is going to generate more revenue than people who come by and get a perpetual license. Sure the latter paid more up front in a big bulk (buying all the desired cosmetics you want at one point) but they probably won’t come back for the next slop released cause they got what they want (constant bi-weekly consumption of cosmetics).
Not to mention obfuscation of what is even in the game, you have to get a mod to see what is even available, you could get tricked on getting a color of a cosmetic you want, and a color that was better can come out next time and two situations will happen. You bite the bullet and buy the SAME MESH AGAIN WITH A LAZY RECOLOR, or in my case, the system is rigged against you and you stop dealing with said system.
We need more than that…
We need a new store and also a new system
My ideal system
Best things they could do is to rework totally the cosmetic system and gives us a for the drip (extended) version.
So, 4 levels of customization: Level 1: we could choose our cosmetic model Level 2: We could recolor our model Level 3: We could change texture used on our model Level 4: We could choose to add, or not, accessories to the model we use (like a candle, or a metal plate etc)
Add to this a weapon customization system with, here again, 4 levels of customization: Level 1: the model we use Level 2: a color we can apply to the model Level 3: various details you could add (like a skull on the weapon, a different ironsight) Level 4: accessories (scope, light etc)
They could sell: models, colors, textures, accessories. So more to sell…
And they would earn more money…
and I say it again… I don’t care to pay. Darktide is my all days game. This is the game I play every days. And for this I have to thank Fatshark.
So I am willing to pay, but I would like something great instead of something acceptable.
To tie this back into the main post, I think this system would work well with an added “Hallowette’s Special Order Catalogue” page that contains each individual bit and bob, sold at a higher price. This would turn the main store into a “Featured Sales” rotation, where you can buy bundles at comparatively lower prices.
That would allow FS to have their cake and eat it too. Plus, it would be lore accurate, because Alice would definitely do something like that.
There’s many things I would have already purchased had they been available. Instead, they appear during a period of time in which I am not playing Darktide.
Maybe this FOMO shop is meant for the newer generation. I couldn’t imagine going to Best Buy or GameStop in my younger days and being told I couldn’t purchase the game I wanted because it was only available during arbitrary times of the year.
It’s also just stupid that with each new set or variant of a piece the collection grows and the chances to see one you may liked from earlier returning get slimmer.
At how many cosmetic items is a bi-weekly rotation to slow, when does FS think a 4th page for each character is needed. Just give us a catalog to browse and find stuff please.
