Comm-Link Delay

Warhammer account on Twitch or IGN on Youtube.

@AndiNagasaki

There’s a gamewatcher article that says the patch is supposed to land today. And the team game banner was updated to include ā€œNew Content Drop Rejects Unite!ā€ or something like that. So maybe it’s today?

Of cours no patch notes or anything…

I see that Vermintide 2 already had a nice post made summarizing the skulls event and various plans moving forward. VT2 is getting a free DLC in June with three new maps. I’m all for that… but it makes me really worried about WTF is going on with Darktide.e

I can’t belive the producer ā€˜couldn’t be prouder’ of what the team has done so far - and they’re bringing back paid cosmetics before fixing crafting.

These devs really are the worst dregs of humankind, aren’t they.

Should be any minute. Or Next Week

Event lasts until June 1st.

They will release the patch June 1st most likely.

If you don’t mind my asking, Catfish, this ā€œmajor content updateā€ has been teased for weeks now and Warhammer: Skulls is a big enough event that it carries with it the idea that you save your big announcement drops for that time. We’ve all been wistfully hoping, this whole time, that you guys were gonna mention the Xbox release.

You didn’t tell us we weren’t hearing anything about console until minutes before the launch.

Why did you wait that long? Why even allow us all to get our hopes up? Why not mention ā€œthere’s nothing in here about the console releaseā€ weeks and weeks ago? It sure seems like Fatshark is using anticipation of the console release to drive players towards these meagre content updates, which is just another rugpull only for our time instead of our money.

Why not temper expectations before these releases?

March 2018, Plague 2 game proper
June 2020, new profession: Holy Grail DLC
November 2020, New Profession: Engineering DLC
June 2021, New Profession: Thorn DLC
December 2021, the new occupation: priest DLC

So, based on this update speed to guess …

December 2022, Dark Tide game proper
September 2024, new profession: ?
March 2025, new occupation: ?
September 2025, new occupation: ?
March 2026, new occupation: ?

If not completely stop updating and give up this game …
For example: ā€œWe made a difficult decision … next year … ā€œDark Tide 2ā€ … update of the brilliance… …for the emperor ā€¦ā€

ok so theirs no mention of Silo’ed resources or removal of locks,
but that doesnt mean its not coming, it was a content preview.

also them talking about what they have done in the last 6 months as its an acomplishment i dont think is a problem, since Jan we have had a Comm-link every 2 weeks and a patch ever 2 weeks. thats something content related every week, thats not an easy feat.

not saying that they are in the clear when it comes to the issues of the game, but they have been keeping us informed of what they are working on for the most part. and having this information out every week isnt something that is easily done.

im sure we can all assume the Comm-link that will come out today will have more info on things to come. if i have grievances ill post them there.

Well… Skullz announcement ended, no Comlink. Color me surprised. Oh wait… no, that is what i expected. /edit: Guess it dropped while i typed this. Still bad timing /edit

My expectation is transparent, honest communication. And you make it sound like that is askin to much and you need to do some cloak and dagger nonsense to regain my trust.

I am telling you: Stop it. This is not how you do it.

Yeah, one day you might stop lying to us, after a boat load of pre-release lies and wrongful expectations that are all continue to be ā€œunmetā€ because you are now working on a console release, that your very own ā€œOpen letter to the communityā€ said they would put on hold.

Gonna be a bit hard to rebuild the trust by continuing to do exactly what lost you said trust in the first place.

If the patch is not delayed, why can’t you tell us when it will drop? Why isn’t the date set?
Why is it so difficult to simply tell the truth? Why is it difficult to be transparent? Why is the default to obfuscate and lie?

We could give a date that we are aiming to drop the patch, but if any issues arise e.g with Microsoft cert for gamepass, or a last minute bug is found and we need to retest and go through cert again and we have to delay, there will be more upset than if we give a short time frame in which you can expect it - as we are almost positive that we will be able to drop it in that time.
I know it’s frustrating to not have a set date, but this way we can make sure we hit the expectations that we set.

Y’all have yet to hit an expectation though lol. Like it’s always pushed. What is happening in this office?

Not that you set any expectation above ā€œnon existentā€ at this point. No one, seems devs too, understand what you are doing and why. All your big updates past 6 month is a work worth of 10 people and no more. 1 map locked behind grind? It’s just another oil in fire of rng and locked content. What will happen if this poor 3k people that still trying to play your game won’t pass the mark? You just will say ā€œwe are sowwy you won’t get this mapā€?
Please, just pass to the devs that you should replace your producer that ā€œcan’t be proud even moreā€ about ā€œworkā€ done in past 6 month. It’s just ridiculous. 15 man dev teams for indie games produce more content in month than your company in 6.

How many people are working on Xbox? How many people are working full time on the released game that more than a million people have paid for?

You (as in FatShark in general) are very concerned with managing expectations so that you don’t dissappoint. You, and other CMs before you, have also repeatedly said how you aim to be transparent.

If you want to be both transparent and also accurately manage expectations (as in letting us know what kind of output per month we can actually expect), you should have no problems whatsoever telling us how many people are currently working on the actual released game full time. You can include bugfixers, balancers, art, all of it.

Catfish, is there any word on whether they’re going to implement mission modifier selection, at least for private games? This is imo by far the biggest unforced error in the game at the moment. I’m mostly indifferent to which map I’m playing – they aren’t that well differentiated tbh – but I care a lot about whether it’s a hi or lo intensity, whether it’s shock troop gauntlet, etc. It seems like it would cost FS nothing to allow full mission configurability in private games – you have to spin up a new AWS instance either way, right? There’s no matchmaking or anything.

This would make a huge difference to me personally, and I think many others as well. My group is thinking of jumping ship to Starship Troopers and/or Diablo 4 and the reason everyone gives is the same – most of the time DT doesn’t even have content we would even want to play. (For us as a coordinated group, pretty much damnation hi-int shock troop gauntlet is the only configuration that’s still challenging enough for us.) I feel like FS could fix this problem easily – any chance a fix is on the horizon?

Btw if it’s helpful context, here is an extensive thread of people including myself complaining about this at length: Difficulty too low, game session canceled

Is there any chance to organize a community live-stream with Darktide’s Producer?

So we could bring him questions in real-time.

While very fun to watch, this would inevitably turn into a dumpster fire in a short amount of time. The anger and disappointment regarding Darktide would boil over immediately if the public is allowed access to Fatshark.

Maybe that’s exactly what they need to get their eyes open.

But there should be moderation anyway.

I don’t want to be overly salty, but with this ā€˜content reveal’ they made, I can’t help myself. This is the result of the six months of continuous support of the game which is supposed to be a live service game:

A steady decline is what it is. Something to be proud of.

I love the game. But I’m at the point where I barely play it. The last couple of weeks, I didn’t even manage to complete the weeklies. I spent more time discussing the game in Discord than actually playing it. I hoped that the delayed comm link will have something more substantial, something that’ll get me hyped. But I guess it’s time to take a break and play some other game.
