Add solo mode already!

Solo mode had the potential to be something truly special. Imagine if the squad was made up of the characters we created, each with the builds we chose. This would let us tailor the squad’s personalities and their interactions, crafting a unique dynamic for every player. It could have been a groundbreaking feature in gaming, giving us the ability to shape both gameplay and story in a way that’s never been done before. Truly a missed opportunity!

‘groundbreaking’.

looks at Payday 2 bots

Sure mate.

I never played that game, so wouldn’t know.

it is worth a nice bit of dosh.

For context: You can pick out bots down to their ‘character’ (mostly just their voice as everything else is generic), arsenal, and some bot-exclusive perks to help out a solo player. Payday 2 came out in 2013.

Just shows how behind Fatshark is on the 8 ball then.

You may be able to contact Fatshark Support for a refund. I have ~40 hours on Steam and when I got tired of using the Many More Try mod to get progression while solo and the Devs refusing to acknowledge it aside from “not a priority” on repeat, I tried to refund through Steam saying they failed to fulfill a promise. Steam declined the refund, but Fatshark Support was able to issue it anyway. Not sure if it will work through PS5, but it should.

Thanks, I’ll contact them and see if I can

You didn’t prove me wrong. Once again looking at the trend that suits you and ignoring my other arguments. I no longer wish to continue in discussion with you.

The game is not dying.

Yes.

You yourself did it for me.

Bye.

Not sure I’m following, are you saying that solo mode is actually story campaign?

This is good design on fatshark’s part. The main problem the first vermintide game had was that after a certian point everyone was using mods to gatekeep their lobbies, and since everyone was using mods to gatekeep their lobbies none of them were taking the “risk” of joining a lobby, so both new players and vets thought the game was somehow full of bots to fake numbers and actually dead. Enforcing players to cooperate in a co-op game when you already know they will willingly starve themselves of it otherwise is avoiding a serious problem in favor of a minor inconvienience.

No, though that was something that was hinted at pre-release iirc.

I’m making an analogy. Halo is a primarily solo-campaign focused game that offers co-op. They added matchmaking and PvP as an FPS as side content. If the latest Halo game only offered a single-player campaign and said “matchmaking and PvP is almost ready.” and two years later it still wasn’t in the game, you’d probably be pissed. Especially if you preferred playing the PvP game modes. So, you reach out and ask where it is and people respond saying “Halo is a single-player game, it doesn’t need matchmaking!” you’d likely say “well, Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: ODST, Halo Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 5 all offered matchmaking alongside the campaign, so…”

It’s literally the same situation here. Fatshark said “Solo mode is coming.” and then 2 years later I’m asking for it and people are saying “it’s a coop game, it doesn’t need single player.” to which I say “Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Vermintide, Vermintide 2, Risk of Rain 2, Killing Floor 2, Back 4 Blood, GTFO, Helldivers 2, and Deep Rock Galactic are all co-op games that offer solo mode alongside co-op, so…”

You forgot to envisage that not all players can solo any difficulty.
I can play an auric maelstrom, I cannot solo an auric histg or an auric maelstrom.

Solo would be used sometimes by most the players, and exclusively by few. But the guys that would use it exclusively, won’t play the actual game.

Actually you are forced to deal with the behavior of your teammates. This means that you can encounter great players, or the worst… you can meet players that will take time and won’t bother to take time, but also the ones that will complain that you’re not enough fast etc.
How many times I have read complains cause I always loot? too many times.

I’m guessing it’s not a priority and won’t ever be.

The vast majority play it as co-op - why should they take developers away from projects for everyone to satisfy a fraction of the playerbase?

The vast majority play it as coop because the only other option is modding with no progression or using an external site to gain mission codes for progression, neither of which work for console players.

Honestly, this take is as bad as saying that a pizza place shouldn’t offer wings or subs to their menu because the majority of patrons eat pizza. Well yeah, because that’s the only thing on the menu!

So the reason to have solo mode in co-op game asap is because it was promised to you?

Sorry guys, my stance remains the same. I play Darktide because it’s multiplayer co-op game with all its goods and bads. And I have yet to see valid reason why solo mode should be priority right now.

It should have been in the game on release because it’s a standard in the industry. Every other coop horde shooter has the ability to launch a private lobby with only one person (solo mode for short) except Darktide and the only answer they’ve given us is “not a priority” which isn’t really an answer as it doesn’t explain anything*

You are absolutely entitled to the opinion that other things take a higher priority. Even I get that given the state the game “launched” in (we all know the real 1.0 was the crafting rework.) but they can at least communicate where Solo Mode is on the priority list. What’s ahead of it? Is it still coming? Has it been worked on at all, even on the side?

That’s what I’m asking for, tell us something.

Edit: I’d also like to clarify that no one, not even me, is asking for solo mode to be the priority. We just want answers on why it’s taken so long and where it’s at in the queue (or if it’s even in the queue)

I asked why solo mode is needed and you answered with:

  • because it’s suppose to be there
  • others do that
  • because Fatshark mention it in the past

Do you realize how absurd and empty those reasons are?

Communication from Fatshark wasn’t great, but I can definitelly see big improvement in that regard. If solo mode is something you need so desperetly, you also need to learn to communicate its value more clearly.

for the record, it wasn’t mentioned, it was PROMISED before the game was released, it was part of the advertising.
