Add solo mode already!

Yup! And it felt like it too. Even with the Auric board coming in early August, the numbers were grim because the game was still in a pretty rough state. The class rework was huge, and I think the penances were too. The itemization update, though, was the real missing piece of the puzzle imo. It was just so brutal to fight the RNG that all the other things they added were brought down by it.

Patch 13 really saved the game!

Speaking for myself, chasing the penances really added unspeakable hours of playtime for me.

Of course the itemisation update was the icing on the cake.

I am curious for your opinion on FS moving away from the old talent system (like Vermintide 2’s) where perhaps each class had a more defined role in the squad to the current tree system.

Lastly, I really appreciate Hardtide and RealPrices!

Thanks for making those!

Hey thanks!

I’ve chased all the penances, and I think they’ve been a massive value add, but ultimately I think the trees and itemization updates are major evolutions on the VT2 formulas.

I’m not really a huge VT2 vet (bounced hard off the itemization system and honestly always hated the class restrictions), so my opinion isn’t super seasoned. But I think it’s impossible to argue that the VT2 class system has more depth than DT’s. I spend a silly amount of time build-crafting in DT. Never much bothered in VT2 as I felt there were always clear winners in each tier.

I also really appreciate the class freedom in DT. Pretty much any class can be built to fill a role, and if you feel like something’s missing you can just switch to another class. This’ll work especially well in Havoc, I think!

Yeah which obviously ended up inflating player averages in october

As for november they released an event with a cosmetic reward.

Helldivers 2 let’s you play solo. They just don’t have bots.

Oh, I’d be fine with them announcing it’s not coming ever. But they’re not going to do that. Because people like me will stop coming back and I, personally, will never trust Fatshark with my money ever again.

So, yeah, they won’t say a word about it. Which is part of my crusade. Get them to say something about Solo Mode.

@FatsharkStrawHat @FatsharkJulia

We’re overdue an official announcement on this. The radio silence on this issue is genuinely beyond rude. It’s time for an update. I don’t love tagging but it’s hard not to feel like we’re being very pointedly ignored on this issue.

Fair enough, i guess the thing to be specific on is: are people asking for true solo mode? Or solo mode with Bots ala VT2?

I’ve mostly seen “start private lobby as a solo player”, so normal games, with bots, but solo.

For this game? Solo w/ Bots. In general? Doesn’t matter as long as the game can be launched solo. I’m fine with RoR2 and Helldivers 2 not offering bots, if you choose to go solo it’s a choice you made to not have party members. The Tide series and the games their based on are built around a squad of 4 going through a mission to an extraction point, so not having real players in all slots necessitates having AI companions.

But! No one is asking for god-mode ai, we play solo w/ bots knowing the bots are going to be worse than the average player. But, they’re consistent and allow you to enjoy the game at your own pace/style.

Edit: make a static skill/weapon loadout for each class, let the players use their other characters as skins for the AI, and allow the AI to use their Grenade and Ult (since bombs work differently in VT2, at least let them use the ult) and we’d be happy with their current ai

On the cost of forcing players to play a certain way they don’t want? Leading either to them leaving the game in frustration or ruining everyone‘s else experience by playing solo in an MP environment?

No there is nothing positive about not fulfilling their promise.

Reported.

What bending are you talking about? 24 month average players is 8831 and this month is 7448. There is no fact bending. There’s literally only 3 months where the average is broken and those are the launch window months.

You are welcome.

I feel that unlocked and unloaded patch has bring players to the game. I tend to think that, with PS5 release, we will get more content and that these numbers could increase…

Anyways, more features you put in a game, more chances you have to retain a player.
As someone pointed, if you allow players to use their own bots, they could also buy more cosmetics cause they could profit of them.

Yes I know that there is a perspective mode (TPS view) that allows that… but let’s be honest. Totally possible to play with it, but don’t use it cause you think that you will get an advantage. Actually, this is the contrary, you loose DPS in melee.

BUMP, 2025 still waiting, now you are doing useless weaves 2.0 and still ignoring us for a basic feature

literally every other coop horde shooter has solo play as an option, and no it doesn’t stop us from playing multiplayer, I do both in vermintide

That’s actually a very good point. I’ve seen a lot of people using the “zero-sum game” logic with game releases (POE2 will steal players from Titan Quest 2! For example), but it’s also being applied here. There’s this idea that people who want solo mode will stop playing multiplayer because it’s added, which just doesn’t make sense. Sure there are people, like me, who refuse to PUG because of having a worse time with PUGs than solo or in a friend(s) w/ bots, but I’m in the vast minority of players who want solo mode.

I know many people who prefer to play solo until they feel comfortable with the game and then they start matchmaking. Those players who have to deal with the anxiety of not knowing the game but being forced to play with other players don’t have an option outside of mods (which doesn’t work for console players). Sometimes players only have a short amount of time to play or may need to leave mid-run but don’t want to leave a PUG hanging, so they’d play solo for a match or two… If they had the option. And there’s also the players who want to try out a weapon or build in a real match instead of against dummies but may not want to finish the run. Solo mode!

Give me solo mode and level select so I can cheese that one ANNOYING zealot penance with the train mission and close out the last one I have standing in the OG penance pile.

That at least would be nice to have.

I just downloaded it for PS5 and went to start up. I did the prologue and loved the gameplay and then went to start a first mission just to find no option for solo - have now deleted the game (and PlayStation won’t give me a refund as it downloaded) and just looked to find that there is no solo mode at all in the game. I don’t want to play with other players and it isn’t clear that you have to in the game workshop description. Pretty annoyed but glad to see others are still pushing for it. Also commenting to bump as it’s pretty disgraceful to have such silence on this now I’ve done the research (edit to add links):

madness really

Yup - it’s industry standard and was promised…

I didn’t even think to look to see if a game had single player or not, just expected it tbh

It would be never enough to repeat that…

Final stage since november 2022…
2 years and 1 month later, they did not succeed to achieve something that was in the final stage of preparation.
Great… :rage:
