I think it’s a big lift (as in time investment, not difficulty), with at least a major bot improvement required, but I still think it’s coming. Not needing to use up server space, a broader audience, and making good on that promise…it’s a win for FS as much as players.

At the moment, I don’t want a modded realm. I like my mods how they are, and I like making progress with them turned on. I want official, self-hosted solo lobbies with sanity checks!

not really a fan of the third person perspective (though I enjoy the tense 40k atmosphere) but being able to do what I want when I want and how I want is something space marine 2 does infinitely better in my opinion
true, darktide has its gameplay going for itself but at the very same time it’s a gamble if it’s a good, fast paced experience or a slog trying to herd the mules to the river they refuse to drink from anyways 
and no, without proper “progress” I dont consider the single player mod an option, a good kick in the right direction towards the devs like “cmon, get that stuff done already”, especially given the option to fill your characters as bots.
but at the very same time I want the feeling of fine tuning and decking out said bot-chars to my liking and that’s where the non-progress thing falls short for me

Agreed. Private mode exists. Campaign missions now exist. Just remove the requirement to already be in a squad when doing private. Very quick and easy fix.
They SHOULD do better bots. Take the Vermintide 2 idea and allow you to have specific loadouts and characters act as your bots. Allow bots to receive orders to pick up things and do objectives.
But they SHOULD NOT let the idea of better bots hold up solo play. Just remove the squad restriction to private mode.
I say this as someone who almost always does auric quick plays when not playing with friends.

On the topic of modded lobbies the DRG system is really good. You can play online with mods but the lobbies have warnings on them that they’re modded if the mods affect gameplay, iirc.
No sanctioning no official endorsement, just “you were warned so it’s your own responsibility”. Treating audiences like adults is always nice

I’d play it under these conditions, but it wouldn’t be a good experience for most players.

At least the choice is there. A stop gap method. It was promised a long time ago. I would just implement it, and if people don’t like it they can always go back to public mode. They can have a warning that the game is harder/less enjoyable solo if they want.

Solo play is in its final stages of testing as we fix the last issues that remain.

A wholly-offline mode isn’t in the cards, I’d bet big on that. VT2 on PC has never had it.
I had forgotten that they explicitly mentioned locally-hosted in that post!

I just want a solo game mode with a possibility to collect money, plasteel, play events etc.

They said at some point (maybe 2024?) that solo mode is “not a priority anymore” or something to that effect, basically saying it’s not coming for now
