I’ve recently been playing space marine 2 with friends a bunch until the latest patch broke matchmaking for us so i decided to finally try out darktide, why is there no solo mode after 2 years of the game being out after it was promised? i just want to play the game with bots not worry about other people. i wouldnt be so annoyed about this if it wasnt promised and it wasnt in vermintide like i can play the game with two bots and a friend but i cant play with 3 bots by myself? i found out theres a mod but you cant progress with it so at this point im wondering if itll ever be added or if itll just sit in my steam list next to regicide and eternal as 40k games i wont touch again
Okay, number one - you would get destroyed in Solo mode with bots. You think SM2 is hard with bots? This game is about 10 times harder. They could add a solo mode - sure. What would that accomplish? Taking away more players from the multiplayer pool so they can be anti-social, sit in solo games, die 50 times to a t4 then never play again?

i dont think space marine 2 is hard with bots, like if you make the bots good enough for this game i dont see why you couldnt play solo. in my use case you’re not taking away from the multiplayer pool either im just not gonna play the game you arent losing amultiplayer person by adding a solo mode

The bots have always been atrocious in terms of AI. Vermintide 2 has better bots than what SM2 and Darktide has right now. I played through the entire campaign in SM2 and reduced the difficulty down to easy because of how atrocious and useless the bots were. Same thing with this game - they would have to program an entirely new AI for what you are asking and believe me, their last priority is improving bot AI. My advice is to bite the bullet and learn to enjoy playing with randoms.

I believe you fully that its not a priority ive read that from a dev and i agree that if i want to enjoy this game as is ill probably just have to play with randoms. i just dont think i should have to play with randoms when a promised feature thats been in previous games isnt here. i play some games with others but sometimes i just wanna sit by myself and get emersed in a setting and game and that can be hard to do when peewee the zealot is running around doing 360s being an idiot which happened when i tried

My god… really? I see every days players that run away and rush (until they die lamentably), I see players that steal the medicae charge when they have 75% health and while the psyker has only one wound remaining, I see players that don’t heal others and keep the health booster even if someone is about to die… etc.
Fact is, there are several excellent players that are really nice, play as a team and help others. But there are a lot of players that don’t even try to play as a team.
Now the question. What it would change to YOUR game if others can play like they want? Are you a game ayatollah that want to rule how others will play???
Yes true.
However, bots are better to face a demon host. They can handle horde really good. They are bad against specials and elites. And they cannot carry anything, they do bad things, like staying still in middle of flames.
But, this is absolutely playable and enjoyable.
I play solos every days…

Solo mode wouldn’t hurt multi mode, as it would for the most part take out player that already are playing like it’s solo.
But really Solo is not something that most of the community need, so it’s really not an important thing.

wouldnt it be better to take those players out then? if theyre ruining it for others just let them be in their own bubble.

Well, for a solo mode to happen they probably would have to at least update the bots. Which is something that would require some dev time, which other people would consider to be ‘wasted’

Would it be better? sure
Is it needed to play solo? absolute no.
They just need to change 1 value. They just need to permits us to go “private” alone. This is not really hard and would take them 10 minutes at most.
And if they feel generous, they could add the possibility to play with our characters the bots. There is already a mod that permits that. So, not a big work here again.

Soloing Ruthless operations in Space Marine 2 with bots is generally a smoother experience than most random matches because the bots are virtually indestructible and usually teleport to the player’s location periodically. Avoiding pointless battles of attrition is a big deal in that game because you get nothing out of fighting unnecessary respawned waves.
If the player does happen to go down, the bots prioritize reviving them above all else, and they always succeed due to the aforementioned tankiness.
Same applies in darktide.
Bots teleports to you if you run away. They prioritize to revive players… and their incredible stamina help them to do it in middle of a horde. This is also their incredible stamina that permits them to resist a demon host a lot of time.
I’ve just been reading your book of grudges on the forum and its both amazing and made me really sad, you’re telling me we could’ve gotten a solo story done by dan abnett and it just never materialized? you’ve done the dwarves proud man cheers for your next ale

It’s not that we ‘could’ve gotten a solo story’, it’s that the advertising pushed ‘STORY EVOLVING IN WEEKS AFTER LAUNCH BY FAMED WARHAMMER GUY DAN ABNETT’ and what we instead got was ‘Dan Abnett scribbled some notes down that basically slapped a Nurgle skin on an old antagonist group and gave us Generic Hive City and Generic Retinue’.
But that’s probably off-topic for this thread.
