Yet another fix trappers thread

I’m sick, and I’ve run out of patience for getting silent trapper’d through walls and terrain.

That an enemy that can end a run singlehandedly hasnt been fixed since this game has launched is atrocious and lazy. It’s reprehensible that I have to run what is in my opinion a cheat mod (spidey sense) just to get some warning of trappers, poxbursters, and hounds to compensate for game and audio mechanics being broken.

This is will be the last time I say this politely: fix the trappers, and the other silent specials while you’re at it.

These days I seem to get trapped by a trapper through another trapper more than anything else. The AI director now loves 2-3 of them occupying the same space at the same time. Total garbage.

Enemies clipped inside each other is another big problem. Killing a crusher only for 5 more of them to fall out of its corpse, while hilarious, does get tedious.

A matryoshka doll of bulwarks, crushers, ragers and/or mauler is miserable to fight.

Bonus points for the trapper that shoots a net through that mess.

Infinite cleave net, here we go!

A net should be stopped by boxes or walls, and should trap the first thing it hits.

That’s just logic. Breaks my immersion to plan around a net that goes through a crate and three enemies.

That’s my problem with trappers.
Also, the nets should not go through crushers.
And I would also like that it works like dogs. A net should not go through the enemies.

I would have, however, no problem if the enemies would be pushed on side by the net (but not Ogryns, definitively, here nets should not be able to go through them).

Please fix team mates too!

Unwrapping a trapped ally takes less than a second. It’s the least risky “rez/rescue” you can do. I make a bee-line for any trapped allies if I have line of sight (and chuck a grenade at them too if it’s looking like they’re taking a beating).

  • Silent Trappers are, I suspect, here to stay. The audio engine clearly isn’t fixable by FS.
  • Trappers shooting through walls - I assume this is “hitscan lag” or something whereby when the trapper decided to fire it had line of sight, and so will hit you regardless of where you now are. It sucks a bit, but this happens in many games I’ve played online.
  • Trappers shooting through chickenwire mesh or through other badguys - I think that should be fixable? If they don’t have “clear” line of sight to the centre of your hit box, they shouldn’t be able to shoot. No shooting my pinkie toes, you cheats!

And PS. You don’t “have” to use a mod :stuck_out_tongue: Just write off a mission every 50-100 or so when your down causes a wipe.

'* edit Oh - one last thing. Turn up the bass on whatever audio you’re using, if you can. A lot of the specials movement occurs in the low frequency range and becomes a lot more evident if you turn that response up so you can hear it.

I have an extreme dislike of playing the Tide series without good headphones. For years Iv been using the Turtle Beach Stealth 600s and I can hear that heavy tread, arrogance in every step. Its a Crusher.

I wonder how many people have an £/E/$ 800 curved screen 34" monitor, and a set of £30 headphones coming off their £3 motherboard sound chip, or worse, freebie USB speakers.

Bet there are quite a few out there!

Teammates that whack at enemies around you instead of unneting you are the bane of my existence

I have “music” headphone and not gaming one.

Mostly cause the gaming ones usually provokes pain on my ears.
I tried 3 and was tired to order and send back items (steelseries and creative).

The headphone is correct (schneisser Momentum 4). However, it is clearly not a gaming headphones.

For the monitor… my LG is a 800€ 27’ monitor but not curved cause I dislike.

I use the Momentum 3 for gaming. Gaming headphones cannot compete with the sound quality of audio brands. Also I prefer the leather and metal of the 3s to the materials of the 4s.

They need to add an ambient noise that NEVER stops while they are alive. They make the spawn-in voice lines then that pretty much it. for one of the most high priority enemies in the game is a joke.

For example they need a loud constant electric/static noise for their net gun, this would help.

Same for the dogs they get waaaay to quiet if they stay alive to long. They should have CONSTANT growling noises loud af. These 2 are the most important enemies to have LOUD functioning sound fx for and they are 2 of the worst it is painful to witness.

Yes - sorry - I should clarify. I wasn’t being a “snob”. And yes, I’m excluding silent bugged enemies.

I was just articulating that many (of us) spend a lot of money on a graphics card and a monitor to get an extra 10 fps with all the shinies on (or whatever - I’m just telling a story here  ) which really makes little to no difference to your ability in the game.

But then spend about 3% of the same budget on a headset or speakers and … are surprised by enemies that aren’t being rendered by said video tech because they’ve spawned off screen.

I’m not sure they do, actually? Just playing devil’s advocate. The spawn in sound queue should be enough to prompt you to keep looking. I’m not sure why a trapper should perpetually make noise; what a bad trapper that’d be?

Coz pox bursters do this, and they are way less of a threat. Id rather get hit by a burster than a dog/trapper anyday.
And she yells out aman catch you hehehehe if she cared about stealth she wouldn’t say anything tbh lol

You have a solution for the silent trappers and even several.
Mods…
Spidey sense does the job.

HOWEVER, tbh, spidey sense is not the alpha and omega and not the cheating ultimate tool that think several. In fact, you have no time to check the color indicators in a difficulty level that meet your skills.
You identify better the threats from the audios.

Now, I add what I said before.
The biggest problem is this trapper that launches his net from behind a reaper, bulwark or crusher. You can’t see it.
Same for trappers that launch it through a wall.
And same when it is launched through an horde.

Honestly, even spending £40-£50 will net you a good enough pair of headphones and you can pick up something second hand thats half decent for £10-£15

So long as its not crappy laptop or TV speakers. To play Tide games properly you need enough bass to hear the crushers etc and clear enough stereo separation. Pro-Gaming or Pro-Audio tag doesnt matter for basic needs. Bass and Stereo :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

You get neither from most laptops, TVs or most external cheapo computer speakers.

Also with even cheap headphones you bypass the room acoustics (literally the room you are sitting in playing the game) and your ears acoustics. Youre plugging directly in to the source man. Far out!

Sound is one thing, ignoring terrain another. I had a recent clip, but it looks like I deleted it, where I got netted through a stack of crates.

I also see rare tracking issues also. Nothing wrong here :upside_down_face:

Part of this problem might be audio cutting out, and being overridden, the corresponding audio cue not being played, but I start to think the failure is at the design level also. Specials like mutants and bursters often flood the soundscape so much you are unlikely to hear other specials approaching, as their audio cues are more pronounced only at the moment of spawn and just before disabling you.

There is more I just cannot be bothered to link it. A lot of those clips were from few days, so multiple examples of those issues during one few hour session.

Even bursters are appearing as if out of nowhere and only hear them when they’re within jumping distance. Getting silly
