I feel like with burster audio cues I get really uneven experience in spaces which are restricted by walls and doors etc. As soon as a burster comes into the view, the audio cue volume gets corrected.
I’m playing on a 34" ultrawide and have 5.1 surround sound headphones. I actually would love my gaming headset more than my senheisers if it werent for the crap microphone.
I prioritize killing or at least staggering trappers over unnetting players simply because I dont know how long they have left on their reload and I’m not about to find out by catching a net to the face, lol. Usually my GF is right behind me and will get the unnet, so I can count on the player getting back up whether I do it or she does.
Trappers should make noise as they move for gameplay feel. It’s one of those concessions they make to improve player experience and immersion in the environment. They do actually have a sound they play when moving around, they breathe heavily like a latex fetishist wearing a gasmask running around, which worked before unlocked and loaded, but something about current patch has buried/deprioritized the sound again… That said, it’s not particularly distinct and hard to hear over gunfire and poxwalker/groaner hordes, unlike the old Hook Rat from Vermintide, which always plays skulls and gear clanking on each other sounds as they move around the map. Plus, Hook Rats had to actually come melee you. Trappers have a web gun they can use from 10 meters away, and it apparently has infinite cleave that allows it to shoot through floors, walls, terrain, other enemies… The 10m range is bad enough, but now that they are silent and can shoot through everything, it totally detracts from the gameplay.
I will say the dogs, even in their current silent-until-nomming-your-face state, are still better than the Eshin Assassins in VT last I played, who’d just silent launch themselves at you from off-map a mile away, and the time from full health to max corruption death is almost twice as long with the dogs… That said, you used to be able to hear them running around, now the sound is just buried/deprioritized in the sound mix so it never plays.
And same with the bursters. I maybe hear their tocking sound maybe 25-33% of the time, since unlocked and loaded. Otherwise the only warning I get is suddenly the green, purple, and yellow blob flying past my head from behind just before it explodes.
On aurich and aurich maelstrom difficulties, having your toughness broken by a poxburster can be a death sentence even if they don’t kill you themselves. All it takes is one groaner slapping you on the butt after that, and you’re down.
I only play auric i still mean what i said
Fair enough.
As a side note, I would love it if trapper nets netted human sized enemies if they hit them instead. Again, seeing a little DOOM style infighting in Darktide would be fun as hell.
Yessssss
Yesterday an ogryn on my team got trapped by a trapper through a plague ogryn
Yep, I have a negative review on steam still sitting there (despite the arguably really good relocked and loaded update) because of this issue still being present.
Spidey Sense is the only reason I still love and play this game as much as I do, and I feel the same way about it. But if the game won’t give me the agency it needs to for a literal GAME ENDING ENEMY TYPE, I’m dropping pretense and just having them be shown to me. At least then it is 100% my fault when I get trapped, and I’m not sent into a spiral swearing up a storm about this pile of dog water ruining my fun without any warning or fan far.
Better allies would be nice to, but sadly Auric and Malestrom have not blockers on them beyond ‘I played the game somewhat’, so I can’t rely on that. I’ll pull up any team mate I can that gets netted, they often won’t do the same for me, so I’d rather have full agency over dealing with the threat verses losing a otherwise perfectly good game because it spawned 3 trappers/bursters/what have you behind me and gave me no notice until I was on the ground.
(Feels nice carrying less effective players through as well, instead of trying to do so and getting caught through a horde by a pile of crap enemy type and going like ‘I f%cking had that but the game just ripped it away from me F$CK YOU!’)
At least trappers can be salvaged by teammates with awareness (though good luck with that with some people), my bigger issue is with instant wind up snipers and/or sniper shots landing even when you blatantly dodged. They’re incredibly disproportionately punishing since it’s just an instant huge chunk of health.
I reported the instant wind ups/laggy sniper shots back at launch, it’s crazy to me how garbage they still feel.
