Current state of Trappers

I’m not really one for starting threads and I’m far from the first to address my concerns on the topic at hand, but the Trappers in their current are unacceptable. The game has been out for quite a while now. There’s no excuse for some of the damn near broken behavior at this point.

I’m not going to pretend that I have my points broken down into stats and percentages, nor am I one to play on the highest of difficulty settings very often. I can only speak for myself and to what I’ve seen. That their projectiles ghost through crowds and even sometimes cover is silly in itself, but when combined with the, frankly, utterly obnoxious spawns that sometimes sees multiple Trappers emerge from the same barrier… I mean, come one.

I somehow don’t see the spawns being fixed very soon, nor the projectiles suddenly being subjected to the laws of physics, so in lieu of that, how about a button prompt to avoid it at the last second, or a way to break free? Not exactly an ideal solution since I can see how that could bring about some negative unforeseen consequences, but I’m suggesting it as a bandaid, stop-gap.

Anything that made it less egregious than it is in it’s current state. @FatsharkStrawHat, would you mind please passing such a concern along? Would be greatly appreciated.

Yep they’re nonsense.

The mechanic of being trapped is something that should be a threat outside of a big horde battle anyway imo, not ramped up during a huge moshpit.

I understand all the issues with them will likely require a serious amount of work, so my short-term fix (still long-term with FS lol) would be to change the trapped behaviour to match that of a dog catch.

So when trapped - all enemies leave you alone and you slowly lose health and gain corruption until released.

This would make their total nonsense behaviour feel much less brutal, unfair and unforgiving until a wider fix can be rolled out.

I would like it more if they did the vermintide style of carrying the player and depositing them at the nearest rescue point.

At least then you’re protected from damage. And the trapper is busy hauling you and not out trapping another player inside of 30 seconds.

There is a cool down time for trappers, after they caught their prey they stay there laughing, then usually ran around a bit more before trying to trap someone else
I find them more forgiving than hookrsts.
When trapped you are not carried much far, to be freed is much faster, and in particular enemies don’t target you, unless they were already previously aggroed on you.
I don’t know if this is a bug or not.

Ah yes, Trapper shenanigans at it again…

Yep, some side walls of some doorways are completely useless as cover against trappers and gunners for some reason. Think you can jiggle near a doorway? Think again.

Learning and pathing accordingly is better than a cop out imo.

Excellent solution! Of course, if all other players go down while the trapped player is at the rescue site, the game should still read that as all players down and initiate the “mission failed” sequence.

Yeah as a ogryn main I gotta say that’s really annoying, atleast I’ll be able to dodge through snivellers soon.

That’s not really what hookrats do. They drag you around a corner then hang you by the neck to kill you. He then walks out to go get another player within less than 30 seconds

I think trappers are fine, other than there still being some geometry they can shoot through that they shouldn’t. Also when people get trapped on a ledge it really should mercy kill them faster. Relatively rare occurences both though

All they need to do is to simply make them laugh constantly while they move (Check the “Cackling Trappers” mod)

This way they simulate the skulls sounds of hookrats, and you can plan around them existing and coming for you

Net should self-destruct if it hits armored enemies in my opinion. It’s ridicilous a trapper can shoot through a pack of Crushers/Bulwarks and entrap someone.

Shooting through basic horde enemies is fair though. You can still hit her with many weapons.

The getting pulled up like that is 100% BS, thankfully it’s a very rare occurrence.
However, that ogryn absolutely had it coming being perched and turreting on top of that crate.

While putting hookrats in wasn’t my idea, if they are added I hope they use Biophagus Melee weapon, the Injector Goad.

It’s Tzeentch allowing the trapper to completely disregard the laws of physics. She’s very blessed.
