XBOX got 14.000 aquilas - Steam got nothing (Fatshark responded 23/01/2024)

Just don’t want this to get buried. OP is not as kind as they make themselves out to be.

oh hey the weird begger guy from the steam forums is ranting about his free monies again. can you give up my dude? it’s pretty clear they’ve made their choice, and it doesn’t matter much anyways.

There are no freebies. There is only WAAAAAAAR.

Oh right, I had forgotten that the Vanguard pack was meant to be “promotional material” for the 1 year anniversary of the [early access] release.

So Steam players never effectively got those :joy:

Since it deserves repeating.

Goddamn, 16.5k aquilas? I didn’t even know about this until today.

I specifically bought the Imperial edition for the added aquilas (skins are meh, not really 40k-ish) so I can kit out my guy from the start. Knowing that I got shafted out of allot more of this premium currency just because of arbitrary reasons some guy decided the playerbase of one platform is somehow more worthy than another… not a good feeling.

Already too deep in the game for a refund, and hell the game is very fun so I would be hard pressed to refund regardless, but this did sour my opinion of the game hard.

Though in reality I am not seeing them ever giving Steam players these aquilas, I am honestly perplexed they even game that amount to console players to begin with. With that much dosh you can have 4 characters comfortably kitted out in the priciest of cosmetic sets of 2.9k each, and still have dosh left over for other stuff too. For a game with such ridiculous prices in the shop, I genuinely wouldn’t hold my breath that someone would decide to make things even.

The more likely scenario is that this was someones screwup with the amount given as it is a massive amount. And now they are left with either giving the God knows how many steam players tons of free currency (which they wont do) or simply continue pretending that nothing happened (what will most likely happen). Its a moneys game after all, as evident by the crazy prices in the shop, and its cheaper to plug up your ears and not address the elephant in the room then rectify your mistake.

As someone who worked in support on a few games, that’s 99% of the time how it goes.

SisterSepticemia, before she got fired for shoving her entire leg into her mouth, said she originally thought it was 1400 Aquilas, max, that people got. So who knows, maybe some moron did misplace a 0.

This part really pissed me off, first it was the Aquilas, but then the vanguard gear wasn’t even a loyalty reward for the people who already played for a year, because the from-to date included the sale time and the aquila bonus time, so anyone who bought the game discount 35% off, with a year of patches and if microsoft bonus 16k aquilas also got the same gear.

It ruins the entire point of the gear because if someone wears it they might actually be a newbie and not someone that played within the entire first year of the game.

Yes I’m very salty about it.

It make sense, because who paid for it, Microsoft, who benefited from that deal, while both, it’s still mainly Microsoft

The game is on the gamepass, so many people won’t buy the game and simply profit from being on gamepass to play it, which mean they don’t pay more to directly have the game (Where Microsoft’s interest is people having gamepass but still buying the game)

So they make that deal, which push people who are at that moment on the gamepass, to buy the game directly

I’m not so sure, because both the 14,000 and the 9,000 would have to be set up, unless there really was some serious miscommunication and someone or a few collectively people messed up with it. It would explain the shocked Pikachu face of Fatshark when our collective anger exploded across these forums and Reddit. Hmm. So their Imperial Editions would have been 3800 Aquilas, which is a less outrageous amount but still annoying.

This is a game company that regularly can’t ship the correct version of the games they’re developing. Whatever is going on internally is clearly a complete clusterf*ck.

Yeahso, I like cars (I don’t particularly, but this is meant to be metaphorical…) and one of my favorite brands advertises a collaboration with a proven partner to produce what’s shown to be a great product. Sweet!

So I buy in, I want to adopt this new vehicle early, see the features. And I drive for about, say… 800 kilometers. And while the very early experience of driving this car is fun, the vehicle itself is a bit wonky, has some major design issues and the fuel economy is questionable at best, malicious at worst.

Ok, no biggie, right? I leave behind a reasonable review for others interested in the ga… umm, car, and I move on to driving other cars I enjoy, occasionally checking to see how far along the uncommunicative designers are with addressing the generally fed back issues…

And a year later, I notice, the vehicle is getting released in another country, to a brand new audience…
But the designers have included a year’s worth of free fuel to anyone who buys the car in that country!

Hmm… Not cool. I’d request a refund, but whatever fuel I’ve bought is now long-since spent. Some of it is in a barrel behind the garage, since I’m currently not interested in the car, and the car itself remains a prototypical mess…

Hardly a satisfactory situation for me, but what can you do… Keep checking in. Maybe it gets better?
It does! A month after this questionable business move, the designers roll out a special anniversary set of features for my car! They even named it in a way that suggests it’s for those who drove the car early on! Yey! A new body-kit, available if I drive down to the shop within the next 7 days!

Only, people from the other country can also get it… Yeesh… Well, good for them.
I’ve no qualm with these foreigners.

But… Bad business is bad business. Simple as. And it has to be recognized and called out. If only for the sake of sanity. It just so happens that it occurs with this product, that I follow.

Ok ok, not one of my best analogies, I admit…

But the point here is hardly the quantity of made up currency that costs actual money, or the value (for me at least) and quality of the drips.

It’s about consumerism, shitty practices, bad communication and, most definitely - having that feeling of (further) disappointment in playing for a lot of that first year and being treated as a wallet…

I’m trying to understand. Can someone explain the difference to this and any other sale (buy X get Y free). I don’t hear anyone saying that they want money back because the game was sold at a discount on Black Friday, or something similar. To me these two things are the same.

There are so many things that I get myself worked up about regarding this game, but this aint one of them.

My line of thinking comes from the cash shop being pretty much the only thing properly finished and ready to go at launch on the ship. Furthermore, I think that only having bundles of 2500 Aquilas available at launch, as opposed to 2400 in line with cosmetic bundles, was not a mistake as claimed, but an incentive to persuade you to buy more Aquilas to use up the left over amount. I’ve seen similar practices in other games. Point being that I have a perspective of anything related to the cash shop with the game being carefully overseen because it involves actual money.

I may be wide of the mark on the Aquilas bundles on launch and it was in error, and that the XBox promo was an error, but this is the perspective I have.

  1. It’s not a sale on the game, it’s being given ‘for free’ a bunch of things that can be purchased in addition to the game. That’s different from a discounted price. The long and the short of it is that the early player base got just the game and maybe 1 outfit and a couple extras, depending on how they spent their Imperial Edition aquilas. People who came in on Xbox and bought the game outright on Gamepass got 5-6 outfits worth of Aquilas for the same price. If the difference was less pronounced, that wouldn’t necessarily be an issue.

  2. This comes along with Darktide being heavily troubled development-wise and being outright player-hostile, and those issues being largely unresolved even now.

  3. The payout broke out largely simultaneously with the Krieg cosmetics, long-awaited, being overpriced to the point that nobody who hoarded their initial set of Aquilas from Imperial Edition could buy even one set, and their jank and horribleness aside, being priced out was bad enough, but with Xbox players getting free Aquilas enough to buy all four sets and have plenty left over…yeah.

  4. To add on to this, the immediate response of the first CM to hear about this was to insult the people complaining about it. This turned it from ‘hey this is moderately annoying’ to ‘Fatshark doesn’t regard their player base as deserving of respect’ and the bandwagon assembled from there.

Hi,

Free the aquilas!

Steam players matter!

That it.

But we already discussed this repeatedly. Now this is head canon, but likely the most possible reality:

  1. They won’t say what it is because they have some NDA signed with Microsoft.

  2. And the promotion was suggested / coerced by Microsoft to sweeten the Xbox deal.

I honestly don’t see why old resolved topics (we got something unique) have to be bought up again and again.
That’s just negative energy.

Personally, if I were to try and look at it optimistically, I would take the deal of less premium cosmetics for mods and mod support on PC. With better hardware and performance. Take that deal any day.

that’s not the same at all in this case, though.

for the sake of this scenario, let’s just say the car company is toyota.

so, you buy a prius(darktide) and everything that you say plays out the way it does. what you, and so many people don’t seem to understand, is that this isn’t toyota(fatshark) that seemingly screwed you over with the “free fuel for a year” deal. it’s the new DEALERSHIP(MS) that you’re actually angry at.

if you originally bought from “jimmy’s dealership”(steam), and your car goes to s**t over that first year, you can go to toyota(fatshark) OR jimmy’s dealership(steam) to see what your warranty options are. in this case, you couldn’t get your money back; just small repairs and fixes throughout the year. after a few months, toyota finally acknowledges all the faults with the prius(darktide), and says they’ll fix them for free, and even give you free upgrades, like leather seats, fog lights, and a moonroof; that’s pretty great, is it not?

now, if another, completely different, dealership opens up during that time; “john’s dealership”(MS); and they specifically go out of their way to partner-up with toyota, and are giving away free that year of free fuel as a promotion, how are you gonna be angry at toyota for that? it’s a business deal between a completely different company/dealership, and it happens all the time with every type of product. another example: just look at every phone company(apple, samsung, lg, google, etc) and tell me it’s not the same when different mobile carriers offer promotions in order for you to buy from them. they’re all selling the exact same phone(s), they’re just offering different promotions to get your money.

you’re upset because the game had a rough start, and all you see is a new player base getting more than you. i get it. but that’s just MS throwing money, like they usually do, in order to push more sales on their platform. that’s all it is/was.

idk how much money fatshark got from MS from this their deal, but how do you think the PS player base feels not getting this game at all? not everyone can afford, or has the luxury, to get a decent pc and/or a new console, especially for one game. i know there are fans of 40k on PS that were looking forward to this game, because i was one of them. luckily i have a good gaming pc, but not everyone has multiple options for gaming. if anything, you should be pissed at MS for this.

and let’s be honest, it’s surprising that fatshark was even able to get darktide to the state it’s currently in, given the start it had. a lot of other bigger devs/companies, like ea and ubisoft, would have just let the game die off on its own, or would have pulled the plug entirely, considered it a loss, and moved on. are you not just glad that the money you originally spent is finally worth it? the game is (probably)only gonna get better from here on out. so just be happy for that.

we all know fatshark messes up a lot of stuff when it comes to this game, and a most the criticisms are warranted. the hate for the aquilla situation, however, isn’t. if you really want what xbox users got, go protest with steam to make a deal with fatshark. we already got that moebian 21s gear set; something fatshark gave when they didn’t have to; and people still complained lol there’s a lot of entitlement and complaining for a situation that most of the people don’t even understand.
