What should Fatshark focus on?

Coming back to this thread after a while

From a financial perspective, while I have no metrics at all, just judging from my friends list I’d say it was a pretty big success. 90% of my steam friends that play Vermintide bought it, and more than half got the extra cosmetic package. While last I checked the reviews are mixed, that’s just honestly because Fatshark bad reeee. While we probably won’t be getting any new weapons for a while, variants of existing weapons can be made, as we’ve seen with the Brettonian ones. No doubt Fatshark will bring out a premium career for each character, making premium careers a new source of revenue and a new type of content update.

Well well well, it has indeed happened. Definitely surprised that they took the mod straight as its base, but it seems to be working out well enough. Developers will probably continue to work on this throughout the month, and probably beyond too. Definitely needs some polishing and fixing up, and I still have hope that the power scale will get pushed down a bit, but overall something that will definitely breathe a lot of life into the game, and make me use a much wider arsenal with a bigger variety of builds on each career.

It’s allegedly in the works, likely will see it within the year I would assume.

No news about a proper overhaul, with recolourable hats, proper new skins with new models, or even any new cosmetic drops as they were promised on early July.

They’re doing it as we speak, but I can’t say I’m particularly impressed with the quality of the work. Compared to GK, they’re having a lot of trouble implementing properly balanced and workable talents, while being mistaken that many talents should be removed (like Rangers Parting Gift or Fuel for the Fire). It’s being done quite sloppily and I’d really like it if they took their proper time with this and actually came up with good designs. Some are grossly overpowered too. I assume they’re going to touch on most careers, if not all, there’s no way Mercenary is getting away free like this. Don’t know if career balance will get touched on beyond the BBB.

No signs of them ever going back and revisiting the beastmen and introducing more units (units that they really should have had from the start). In fact, they’ve removed beastmen from a lot of maps, rendering them a minor rump faction to fight. Deeply dissapointed honestly, since it’s from a DLC they’ll likely never get touched on apart from balancing or bug fixes.

I’ve heard Tzeentchian whispers that they’re working on it. Ideally they would implement the Athanor system and be done with it. I understand it’s not that easy with the way loot works in this game, but it can’t be that Herculean of a task. I’m a player with over 1k hours into this game and enough dust to have anything I want, yet I spent 2 minutes re-rolling my volley crossbow to get the properties I wanted, laboriously clicking the re-roll button over and over again. And no doubt with the BBB going on I’ll want to re-look at other weapons.

Improving the way hordes approach you by making them spread out into a formation instead of funelling in would be great. Flinching is something that I’ve recently been enlightened on and that is a mechanic which makes the game worse in my opinion. Enemy difficulty in general, the way specials get one-shot up to Cataclysm, or how most elites get dumpstered (partly because of flinching) is something I’d like to get addressed too.

The biggest thing I’ve heard about though is an expansion going into the Chaos Wastes. Don’t have any real information on it, but I can’t say I’m hyped for the location they’ve picked. I’d much rather our dudes stay grounded in reality and fight like C class heroes. There’s a lot of places I’d rather visit in the vicinity of the Reikland, like Montfort in Brettonia, or nearby mountain holds such as Karak Ziflin. Getting a proper endless last stand mode, where we defend a dwarfen mountain fort would be great, with supplies trickling in and the difficulty ramping up with several random waves of enemies. Chaos Wastes sounds like it’ll introduce a new game-mode, and send us into more hyper-fantasy, when I’d rather explore the Warhammer world as it is where we are. Just my personal tastes, doesn’t mean the expansion will be bad.

I think the Grail Knight is ok in which the only thing I disliked about it is revolving around price comparisons in that I think a lot of the Premium Cosmetics / Grail Knight Cosmetic Pack are simply overpriced compared to previous DLC. I don’t own the DLC as I’m not a Kruber fan but class / talent / weapon wise it seems to be in a good place with perhaps a bit of balancing should it be required.

Balance Patch frustrates me a bit in that while a lot of changes were required this is just another instance where yet again Fatshark isn’t satisfied with their game so they toss up the dice once more to see what shows up when they land. Weapon and Talent wise a few nerfs to certain weapons / talents is fine (Billhook having unlimited dodge…?) but I’d rather they simply buff the options that aren’t used as much or are simply needing that extra edge.

Once again Traits, Properties, Crafting, Heroic Deeds and so on and so forth are ignored for now.

Beastmen and new enemy types in general would be nice. Imo Norsca could use 1 more melee oriented special and then Beastmen should have 1 more elite, special and monster to bring them up to a better place. New maps should try to include outdoorsy set pieces that can then have beastmen spawn nearby - old maps should make use of randomized blockades to instead have randomized set pieces that could coincide with Beastmen spawns. Probably would be the best way to go about it.

Still think that Difficulty Specific Enemies would be a nice addition where you at least have supped up Elites that have different Textures, bigger Model (would need to change range of attacks) and better stats with perhaps some Damage Mitigation. Kinda like a mini boss to shake things up a bit but not as powerful as Monsters - they should also spawn with a small honor guard of related enemies to their faction or unit type. Spawn chance would be based on difficulty but should still be kinda rare to come across.

Still sad they didn’t manage to implement a Map Editor of some sort. Would’ve given the Modding Community something more interesting to work with and could’ve led to some epic new maps.

NEw Maps!

love this comment!
i agree so much towards the defense of a dwarven fortress in waves. dwarves are so damn cool

huge thank you to the devs for releasing the cosmetics, and releasing the new maps. i had a blast playing on them, and will probably play them a handful more.
greatly looking forward to potentially anymore cosmetic additions, player talent changes, weapon changes, or deed system changes! Or even any game additions that just have novelty like exploding barrel rat swarms, swarm mechanics and even bigger swarms, or perhaps silly mission additions like when the pub got swarmed by skaven in vermintide 1 and players had to fight for their lives.
stoked for any and all content updates! devs you are appreciated, and we hope you will keep cultivating content for players to have more to feel at home being silly in with gameplay, and that players will be able to further enjoy.

There are so many little changes that would greatly improve the game that aren’t being done at all despite something like 100 employees. What should they focus on? I’d say Vermintide.

As much as i am presently inclined to be sour about overflowing bugs and agree with you, it still has to be said that necro’ing threads isnt cool x)

Please do avoid it and instead make your own post instead, you can then refer to this one if you so wish without any problem.

I had no idea this was that old, it was recommended to me so I commented on it. Not like anything’s changed since then anyways, funny enough.

It sort of needs to be both. The problem with a straight overhaul of anything is that it isn’t new, its fixing a problem. The solution IMO is to add new things at the same time you implement the overhaul. Deeds overhaul would have been fine if it came with a new interface and some cool new mods added (and winds please add winds to deeds).

The cosmetic shop was a fine idea but its lacking in…new cosmetics. Free and paid, the whole point of selling cosmetics is that you can fund new content, and maybe if they sell enough rotating the game to free to play or at least subsidize the base cost of the game. You want more players and for them to come see the new content make it easier to get in the door.

And you want to talk crafting overhaul, they already could have done it! Remember that time they made a brand new crafting system and added it during WoM. That was the dev time and effort except they didn’t do it. Doubtful that fixing a core infrastructure with less or the same amount of effort as adding this new thing was a worse usage of time. And they could have added it with new content (granted weaves were still bad but that’s a separate issue).

Roll out a deeds overhaul with new mods, roll out some new premium cosmetics with the release of new maps. Quit trying to make new game modes when the old one still needs love and can be leveraged so much harder.

This concept that old things can’t be new is not really correct. Look at Path of Exile. They release a new mechanic, say here’s the new league and then ones that players like get added in. Because the core system is good they can add the new things in as they like.

Now if only VT had a game mode where all the cool game mods that players like could experience them…Nah lets make a new thing instead.

I think Fatshark should provide more blood and more butter.

Versus and darktide

Netcode - seriously, they need to fix this mess already and I hope they’ve hired people worth their salt to rewrite it properly from scratch for Darktide >> game stability > Darktide > new maps > end game content (perhaps OS, DW and cata3 checkboxes in the mission menu on official realm?) > new classes > other VT2 content >> overhaul weaves
