Weekend after Havoc release week already has 10K less peak players on steam

LMAO GOTTEM!
Player retention bois!

Basically half the population noped out in a week!
Best gamemode!

Always remember to keep giving players what you think they need, never what they want.

i mean, why wouldnā€™t they? there was plenty of time to finish all new penances and jump ship until the havoc gets reworked into something not as hostile towards players or more content gets released in like 7 months from now after the winter holidays.
personally, i just check the mission board through third-party website to see if ranged only auric maelstrom spawned(got 2 in 3 days) to knock out 1500 reapers penance(~65 per mission if you kill all of them yourself)
frequent server errors coupled with clueless ps5vers are not incentivizing me to queue up in auric quickplays

I donā€™t think Havoc was meant for the comer and goer, but rather for the hardcore ā€˜coreā€™ playerbase.

And even with VT2ā€™s Chaos Waste (which largely was made in a way to be accessible for new players) it dropped to itā€™s stable user base not so long after

vanripper just released a new game, they got better things to do right now.

theyā€™ll be back.

Havoc isnā€™t really something thatā€™s going to draw and retain tons of people, the bulk of the playerbase runs Malice and Heresy and will never touch Havoc.

As is, weā€™re still at more than double (sometimes triple) the number of average players relative to most of the year. The crafting rework did a lot of good on that count.

Yea I was here through the dark times of like 1500 players and no crossplay. The game is doing fine. Havoc I will continue to not engage with because that content wasnā€™t for me. I want more Darktide.

This gamemode was such a miss for an anniversary update. Not to mention weā€™ll have to wait month+ for sensible fixes for matchmaking experience and balancing the modifiers (Havoc 20 can be harder than Havoc 40, depending on how the modifiers stack and which map you get).

I wish weā€™d get two maps and a new boss fight instead, just like first anniversary.

a tiny fraction of this ā€œplayerbaseā€ is havoc material anyway.

lots of ps5 tourists got what they paid for and hopped onto the next console fast food or whatever.

we could have 100k players 99% would still struggle with damnation let alone HISTG<auric maelstrom<havoc so what use are the numbers when it comes to player quality?

sales were made already, generating the funds that keep the lights on and those quitting in 2 weeks aint probably buying skins until then.

so whats left is waiting time for matches.
and there you got that one point.

edit: i dont mind waiting time per se as it was with hangars up until now.
that be active waiting on my part/terms and patience.
but i refuse to be fkking ā€œBittstellerā€ to guys that only got their one trick pony going right now and to a large percentage be lost if thatā€™d be taken away.

not saying there aint good zealots/psykers, but these are valuable due to intrinsic mechanical skill and thus be the superior player.
whereas a large percentage got nothing going for them if it wasnt for book/bubble

a lot of medium quality players were carryable in histg and auric m. thus having a short waiting queue the mandatory training wheels that ā€œmustā€ be present in havoc prevents even skilled players joining teams cause the rest needs a double cushion.

and that ultimately is the reason why people dont bother long with havoc after reaching 40.

i used to jump in and get :poop: done, not negotiate for a spot in the party.

get rid of the demotion nonsense, dudes get carried through no matter what and let the modifiers be a thing outside the race for two "titles " that 4 weeks from now stick on absolute turds like the literal north korean general.

Almost every single game is having an update to coincide with the holiday. This isnā€™t really surprising or indicative of anything since the average gamer rotates through more than a single game.

Agree, Havoc was Fatsharkā€™s attempt of a hat tip towards the players with 100s and often 1000s of hours in the game. I suppose the intention counts

That moment when you expect more than half of the people who rejoined for some new update to stay after it gets even somewhat old. I wonder when Helldivers player count drops back close to normal numbers. Oh wait,

Comparing HD2 and DT using the 4 day span, we can see that both player bases are already at a downward trend. Although Helldivers might not drop all the way back down to 15k average, I think, it only makes sense because Helldivers/ Arrowhead being a new company is doing everything in itā€™s power to minimize chances of failure. Especially with a premium store that is actually a pleasure to use.

Also, DT has lost around 1-2k players per day ever since the update. Helldivers 2 has lost about 10k per day since update. That info can be translated in many ways. Mainly, either HD2 loses more people because they have a bigger player base so OF COURSE or, they have a bigger player base, so they have more chances of turning over an ā€œupdate joinerā€ into a casual and fail as much as DT even with the community service.

Havoc 40 was taken in the first week full with randoms. I like that there is a lot depends on the players and their understanding of the situation of the map, but far from liking that all the complexity is reduced to abuzu a couple of classes and builds, reduced xp and resistance + increased number of shooters, so a mode and play it is already little desire, even in groups with friends.
And itā€™s also a shame that they talked about collecting feedback in the first couple of weeks, so that what? To say good luck and go on holiday? On the part of the CMs deserved, but the rest of the company - no, a boiled down anniversary gift, veterans without weapons.
I consider the patch itself worse than the crafting patch.
Wastelands of Chaos yes, itā€™s not a fact that it would have retained an audience more than Havoc, but the replayability was there. Tired of regular maps - go to WoC, and vice versa.

Iā€™m sure everyone would agree that the Crafting Patch is objectively DTā€™s best update by far.

nah class overhaul was literally the game that should have been shipped, and that was the real issue PC players should be whining about. with the bare-ass temporary VT2 holdover system the game was woefully not feature complete.

Naw, i refuse to believe in this reality. I still believe in the VT2 multi-archetypal characters. But youre right, class overhaul shouldve been the game when it was shipped, itā€™s why I dont consider it an update/patch. Itā€™s just late homework.

Good analysis.

Iā€™d like to add - A downward slope in players is absolutely normal - As is a downward trend in customers after a new product hits the market.

Everyone wants to try the new thing, but oh wonder - people are different.

In the end only the 5-20% who really like the thing stick around because itā€™s their cup of tea and those who came to give it a try say something alone the lines of ā€œnice concept, but not for meā€.

OP somehow interpretes these players leaving as some sort of failure, not realizing it is a baked-in feature of a free market where more than 1 option for everything is readily available.

Thatā€™s not even talking holidays and how during Christmas and New Years people actually have sh** going on in their lives.
