Veteran is worthless now

veteran sharpshooter has fallen millions must review bomb

Go on then, I give up! Tell us what the answer is!
(I assume this was an anagram? )

I played with a Veteran last night. He didn’t seem ā€œworthlessā€ to me. On the contrary he more or less carried the entire group by himself.

The difference is that your veteran probably isn’t the traditional sharpshooter of old. In fact it can’t be, because that specific veteran is indisputably dead in the water. Veteran’s best role for a while has been book zealot 2.0. Sure the class isn’t worthless, but the identity sure is.

Ooooh dear…

Look, I’m no fan of the aura change either; I think it’s heavy-handed and clumsy (AGAIN) and I think it should be halved. In past I’ve been quick to voice my discontent with any egregious fückery done to the Veteran (@Crayvun, @BFCInsomnia, @Khorne_Dawg, and @Mayson can vouch for me on that), buuuut this is overstating it.

Let’s not conflate annoyance with handicap, or nobody will take us seriously if, in their ineptitude, FatShark ever turns the veteran into a paraplegic again.

Nowadays, I mostly use my Psyker. Why care about ammunition if you don’t use it?

Yeah, I’m happy now to sit back and see what happens next. I think our concerns have been raised and the best thing we can do now is see how we’re all feeling by the time the next patch drops.

I’m not feeling any urge to play right now, which is a shame. But I’m also not willing to scream at Fatshark for the next month demanding change. With a bit of luck, maybe we’ll get something else to spice up Veteran?

I only assume that at least some of those complaing here, before the patch, when they connected to a lobby and there was no vet with Survivalist they just did the most logical things and quit. Then the process was repeated until they found one? I mean the alternative is literally unimaginable.

i dont see it we got 6? quite big buffs, inc 5 seconds off class skill., 100% and 300% buffs to marks focus fade times, reload buff and two tough regen buffs.

and its not like survival wasn’t out of control the spawn rate of elites and specials is huge compared to when it came in i bet its still severely overperforming.

My favorite playstyle on vet is just running in like rambo with the autogun which is what the old exec stance uptime build basically boiled down to. It’s still perfectly possible and probably stronger than ever due to the marksmans focus keystone, which again, got buffed immensely. Now your autoguns oneshot almost everything on headshot while you do this. You can run it with any of the 3 abilities even. Each have their strengths and weaknesses, VoC is the allrounder, stealth lets you have the most personal survivability, and exec stance lets you turn your autogun into a laser pointer for vastly more damage and kills

I mean for myself those changes mean nothing. MF makes me want to fall asleep. And the toughness on kill? Meh, not interest in the 20% sprint stamina skill before it, or the movement speed after it.

This all leads back to: I just want to play Grunt, or the form of Vet we started with. Not melee guardsman, or team leader guardsman. Just a regular old Guardsman who blasts fools with lasguns.

Its the reason I wanted to play this game in the first place! I saw that trailer of those guys going through the hive. 4 guardsman. That got me excited!

I understand to a lot of people here the Veteran complaints may seem ridiculous as they just don’t seem justified. But to some of us, Veteran has only felt worse with each change.

this is pretty much every vet main excitement to try out the new marksman buffs

I think you’re right. I think it has.

It was frankly ridiculous for 8 months, Dec 22 through Sep 23.

And yet even now, it’s still on a par with other classes.

I do really think one nerf to ammo is being massively over inflated in terms of importance. Forum tide in action. Especially as mentioned, it comes with x number of buffs in the same patch.

I would also think it’s worth re trying other skills. I know you might not think speed aura is worthy, fair enough, but maybe re try it? That’s what balance patches are about isn’t it? Encouraging something new.

I think sitting in a proverbial rocking chair saying I ain’t ne’er gonna change is missing out. Design a new build.

Yeesh.

I have always had other builds. Out of my 5 builds only 2 ever used Scavenger.

I just deleted the scavenger builds out of disgust. Quite frankly I don’t care whether people think they were justified, the class to me isnt a guardsman anymore. I may as well play zealot. But thankfully, I have other games instead.

But im sure you Ogryn, Psykers and Zealots are having infinitely more fun than me with all the exciting new… oh wait.

At least everyone has Veterans to abuse to entertain themselves while they make Darktide around us.

You know… might have been a good idea to delay this particular change to Veteran, think it through, and release a better version of the aura or something else, alongside big changes to the game. Or did they think this update was ā€œhype afā€ or something?

Dunno that’s fair. I’ve a fair spread of time across my characters. It doesn’t make me right, but I would say I’ve a reasonably balanced view. I too like the vet.

shrug Fair, I’m far more biased towards Vet, as I find the other classes boring.

Bare in mind I have levelled the others. Its purely a passion thing. I adore the Imperial Guard, narratively, thematically, and all that. DoW Winter Assault kicked ass

Does this make me a whiney child complaining about their favourite toy being taken away? I’m sure to some. But I’ve tried to make my arguments as clear as possible.

At the very least the pill would’ve been easier to swallow alongside some new guns, you feel me?

Hey!

I am not saying you are wrong, but I am still using my standard shooty-mc-shootface non-canon Krieg build on my Veteran, which includes a Recon Lasgun Vlla and a Power Sword MK III, and it works pretty fine even after the nerf.

But I just wanted to say that I have been a staunch supporter of the guardsman or grunt-based Veteran playstyle since I began playing the class.

I have my Ogryn for bullying everything in melee, and my current main Psyker who doesn’t care about ammo, so when I’m playing my shooty-mc-shootface, I want to shoot things dead with my gun and spend as little time as possible in melee.

That’s why I have three different Lasgun builds, including Recon Vlla, that are all based on not having to pick up ammo, with the exception of my Bounty Hunter XIV/Combat blade build, which is fun but not as effective right now due to the XIV’s lackluster performance.

If anyone is interested, here are my stats (with my bounty hunter build equipped):

I started off as Ogryn mostly. Biased towards Vet for plasma.

Now going to try out Zealot bleed build with Cat mk3 knife. Made me try something new as result of this Vet change…

@JanZamoysky

I couldn’t say… I usually only play malice or heresy (my damnation runs are limited to probably only a couple dozen) so I’ll take your word on it.

ok but your actually saying you cant now because of this balance change?
