Issue Description:
Unable to launch game, receive crash report while attempting to launch from game launcher. I was able to launch and play the closed beta and system meets recommended specs.
UPDATE
I am able to launch the game via the executables in the games files, however this get stuck at the sign in screen as it cannot connect to the internet. It is only when using the launcher that this issue occurs.

having same issue here. I was playing pre-order beta fine until after today’s patch. now, if i try to run the game, as soon as the game screen initializes it stops responding at a black screen. wash, rinse, repeat. i tried changing from windowed fullscreen to normal fullscreen, resetting some of my graphics card settings to default, etc. can’t seem to get past that initial black screen without a “has stopped responding” issue.

Please ensure you have appropriate Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions in place for Darktide.

I have the same issue, switching off antivirus and firewall does nothing, it crashes after easy anticheat screen with exit code 0xC00000FD.

Firewall exceptions are in place for Darktide, added additional exception for Darktide.exe and still encountering the same issue.

I don’t even make it to black screen. Just will not launch period.

Should I be getting a EOS screen after launching on steam? Cause I’m not.

We have been able to determine that many of these startup crashes are related to the user having a old version of Epic Games Launcher installed.
This issue will be resolved in upcoming updates (regardless of your Epic Launcher). In the mean time try updating your Epic Games Launcher, alternatively uninstalling/reinstalling it.

Wait, so we need Epic Games launcher for the game although its on Steam?

im getting the same issue, not being able to launch from steam, and then when it loads the game it says “backend error.” definitely nothing sexual implied. The game will not launch from steam AT ALL. all that shows up in task manager is “windows error reporting”. this is the error report:

btw i have no firewall or anti virus so those are not an issue.

i updated my epic games launcher. still have the same issue. it did take a BIT longer loading and still never opening or whatever.

This seems to be another problem, but we will also do our best to fix that. Could you look for your logs in the folder: %APPDATA%\Fatshark\Darktide\ and post them here?
Especially the one called darktide_launcher.log and the latest log in the sub-folder console_logs, if any.

If I get those, I will do my best to make a diagnosis and determine the appropriate treatment.

That is a valid question. Seem strange right?
No, you don’t need the Epic Games Launcher. The problem described above did only occur IF you had it and IF that version was old. We use some libraries that are part of Epic Online Services, but we also found a bug in our code in some instances reference functionality there (given it was installed) that might cause instability problems for our game. This has been fixed in an upcoming release, but until that, updating that Launcher also helps.

the darktide launcher log is 273000 characters and the forum limits to 32000 or something, is there an email or somewhere to send you the log??

Did you make your user_settings.config read-only, what I can see from the log, the game is unable to write to it. This should, however not be the reason for the crash but if you can make it not read-only, that will make it easier to locate the problem. You can either do that, or I might even suggest that you completely delete the folder %appdata\Fatshark\Darktide, so we get a fresh start.
I can also see that your CPU is quite old and likely below “min-spec”. I think the game might still run, but it will probably impact your performance.

the user config file is always read only, it will set itself to that when you launch. i messed around with it during beta. to optimize graphics and performance.

my cpu is ok, it is alot more powerful then you might think. i actually just had a newer cpu/motherboard, few years newer, and it ended up being a pretty good amount weaker than my current motherboard/cpu combo. i am going to upgrade my whole system in a year or 2 though most likely. my computer was performing pretty well once i found the right graphical settings, despite lots of people with newer computers suffering fps spikes. I actually have a friend with a computer that is pretty good for today’s standards, and he was still suffering from lag spikes more often than I was after messing with settings.

The config files and other files in C:\Users\Eric\AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide should not be read-only or protected in any way. This is like the scratch-pad the game needs to have read-write access to. I would really suggest that you try deleting that whole folder.-
