I’m extending them the benefit of the doubt again here (I’ve lost track now). If this is paid though I think I will be done. Here’s hoping.
Color me an idiot when I thought it was for a boon system for Chaos Waste 2.0 that’ll eventually be implemented in Darktide. I guess that’d be too hopeful. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Community Managers lock or delete this thread because we’ve just uncovered yet another insidious design element of Darktide.
For those trying to call for reassurances. Remember. This is the same studio that went ahead with the release date despite the multiple issues that’ve been reported throughout Closed Beta to Pre-“Beta”, both technical and design wise. This is the same studio that ignored feedback on the toughness change and still went ahead with it then ended up breaking the game, then took several days to fix it. This is the same studio that implemented a health hazard VFX change to pysker staff despite player feedback against it then took days to revert it. This is the same studio that withhold content from you, content that you paid for, content that is going to be monetized through the cash shop.
Fatshark does not deserve your benefit of doubt at this point of time. They don’t care about us. They’ve shown their true colors. Assume the worst, people. So this way you don’t get blindsided.
Just gonna say the same thing here I said in that topic:
Assuming it’s not just pure paid boosters, this really better not be burn cards from Back 4 Blood. Those absolutely killed the game for me. (I recognize some people like them)
For those who don’t know, burn cards were/are things you use before each map that can give you stupidly overpowered buffs like flat out giving you weapon upgrades, giving teamwide upgrades, making it so every enemy drops a bunch of extra currency (for the in map shop), etc. They absolutely trivialize the game.
Fatshark already took the trauma system (corruption) from B4B, so I’m a bit paranoid.
Surely they wouldnt dare? Surely there is some shame left?
I hope it’s in-game dockets… otherwise we are getting into P2W territories with Extra Grenades and Extra Wounds.
Clearly, Darktide is a data-mining game with horde shooter elements built around it.
Don’t forget to say thank you to their new Chinese corporate masters. How naive could they have been?
Big corporate corrupts everything it touches. It just cannot suffer anything small and successful as that would show the big corporate for what it is: greedy, inefficient, unimaginative monopoly.
Ah, B4B, the greatest gaming disappointment I have had since… well, since forever. But I guess this is based on the amount of expectation because I gave up on it really soon - and my disappointment with DT is still rising because I am still playing and actively encountering all those contradictory design elements, such as how limited characters are.
I’m in the cautiously awaiting camp here. It has time to be refined or scrapped.
I think this would be a great use for Melk’s Contract Tokens or even it’s own currency- so long as said currency is entirely WON through GAMEPLAY.
Please FatShark, no Pay for Power and no Pay for Progress to Power. Do not pull a Warframe as a Paid title. It will sully and dwindle a lot of the comparably patient and forgiving outlook the community’s displayed thus far!
PENANCE BOONS!
OH! What if EVERY WEEK you were given an alotment of currency EQUAL TO YOUR PENCANCE RATING! the ONLY WAY to get more is to hunt Penances!
So 800 Penance points means something I have a weekly pool gifted by a Priest type character (like you’d see in a prison) and then can use that for Boons.
24 hous of Double resources? 200 Penance points please. And ofcourse you can just cash these allll in for the weekend!
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE- IF you use a Penance alotment that means it’s ACCOUNT WIDE- which is an easy way reward you for having a main and making using your time on other characters less daunting. You can walk up and buy 48 hours of Double XP for 200 Penance and then crank out a good 15 levels
Honestly B4B wasn’t an awful game on the whole. Certainly I’d consider it more ‘complete’ than Darktide currently. It was trying to be its own thing and too many went in expecting L4D3. (Which is on the devs/marketing team for setting that expectation to be fair)
I just absolutely hate the direction they took it with nerfing absolutely everything. I already see similar complaints gameplay wise that essentially amount to people needing to get better. B4B now is a shadow of its previous self difficulty wise, I’d rather not see Darktide become a joke. (And even damnation is already not that bad, there’s definitely things that need nerfing and buffing though, both player and enemy wise)
Not even touching the above comment by @Cxdfc and how it just plays into toxic forced engagement still^
There arent things that need nerfing in Darktide. Nothing will carry you through damnation if you dont have the kiting sklills and the game sense. only 2.4% of the playerbase has the Inquisitorial Legends achievement and thats just for Heresy missions not Damnation. It does have a bunch of things that needs buffs tho and when they do get buffed i 100% guarantee you will see less whiny nerfing thread. Zealot need his exclusive weapons buffed so they will stop whining about the powersword. Ogryn needs to be more survivable on 4-5. Not by much but at this point in order not to have to sweat like a pig on Heresy+ you need the Slab Shield. The psyker needs buffs as a whole. It just sucks now.
Both enemy and player wise. Shotgunners and snipers are stupid right now, especially with the terrible servers. Certain weapons for players are very clear winners in pretty much every category for the most part. Melee enemies need to be a lot more threatening, right now they’re basically fodder. Etc.
only 2.4% of the playerbase has the Inquisitorial Legends achievement and thats just for Heresy missions not Damnation.
This means nothing considering that 1) Many people are bad. (No nice way of putting it) 2) There’s a ton of people who pick up a game, play it for an hour or two, then never play it again. Low achievement rates mean nothing. 3) Throw in the number of people getting squicked out about the issues and dropping it for the forseeable future. 4) I didn’t even get it for quite a while despite being on heresy+ for days because the game didn’t want to give me an investigation mission. The mission board is awful.
Zealot need his exclusive weapons buffed so they will stop whining about the powersword.
Eviscerator is in a fine spot (And debatably too well rounded). Thunder hammer could use some very minor buffs. Flamer is fine. Heavy sword is hilariously bad.
Not by much but at this point in order not to have to sweat like a pig on Heresy+ you need the Slab Shield.
I unga bunga in damnation a lot. You can’t go full moron but nobody can. Shield is for people who can’t figure out how to play, not relying on it isn’t sweating.
The psyker needs buffs as a whole. It just sucks now.
I guess my friend and I aren’t generally carrying damnation lobbies as ogryn/psyker. TIL.
"Certain weapons for players are very clear winners " as they should be, this isnt Warhammer Fantasy, in 40k power weapons, bolters, force weapons shoud be on top, the rest of the weapons need just to be viable enough to be fun and effective. Otherwise it becomes the one trick pony “balanced” Thunder Hammer which sucks donkey ballz. Can you play with it and win, sure, is it a fun weapon? F no
“I guess my friend and I aren’t generally carrying damnation lobbies as ogryn/psyker” good job to you i guess, im sure we can find people that can beat damnation with 200 rating grey weapons so that means we better nerf everything since some people can do it right?
I can see there’s no point continuing this discussion since you clearly didn’t read a thing I wrote and if you really think having a weapon that’s just a clear upgrade from 90% of alternatives is okay then we just inherently disagree on a fundamental level. Balancing for MUH FANTUSY is stupid as hell and there’s plenty of ways around it that still maintains their feel without taking a dump on game balance.
Yes we clearly disagree. If you find yourself only playing said weapons, match after match, without switching them out for something else, well, metaslavery is a YOU problem.
If Powersowrd being able to slash through rotting zombies with an energized blade is a threat to muh balance i’d rather the game be unbalanced.
If a the Thunder Hammer being unable to kill a single scab or dreg with an overhead light attack on Heresy+ because its damage sucks ballz because its “balanced” around being a SEM killer one trick pony then please for the love of the Emperor make it unbalanced.
This game is one of repetition, and through the hundreds of hours i have already and will continue to, play with every single weapon available to my operatives, and id much rather they ALL be unbalanced but fun and enjoyable than balanced and a hassle to play.
Exactly this. I am one of those people who was sold this game as the successor and what I got was a lot of things I did not want or care about and nothing - yes, nothing - of those that made me play L4Ds a lot.
DT feels more and more the same. Let me add that I wish I found it as soulless as B4B - I would have just left the game alone and considered my preorder as a payment for a really expensive score, just like I consider my purchase of the deluxe or whatsoever edition B4B to be a reward for Evolve, which I really liked.
Good thing horde clear is one thing I’d like buffed on the thunder hammer. Since you keep harping on about it as some sort of bizarre attempt to discredit what I said. Since, you know, I mentioned that it needs some minor buffs. But keep ignoring everything I’m saying to tilt at windmills, I guess. My bad for not literally presenting a powerpoint on every little buff/nerf I think there should be. (Which you’d then likely just attack, if you managed to read it, not that I’d ever be bothered to make one because that’s kind of the devs’ job.)
For those that are curious, Back 4 Blood developers Turtle Rock are majority owned by Tencent, same as Fat Shark. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Can we get back on topic?
I am cautiously optimistic about this information, as I am hoping that these boosters are not premium currency exclusive. I am sure you will be able to buy them with Aquillas, it’d be stupid not to as it’s easy money. As long as they are purchasable ingame with either Sire Melk’s money (most likely) or a new shop with its own money and way to earn it.
This game desperately needs a way to improve how you acquire good gear. Earning and using boosters that increase the chance of getting an Emperors gift and the level of that gift will help the situation.
I am sure there will be boosters for resources too, which will help with the lack of plasteel sources at the moment
Enable much?
Or you know - they could just increase the drop rate and quality (tweaking a couple numbers) directly or just increase the amount of materials collected per pickup, or auto-refresh the shop after each mission. Or any other number of player friendly things.
But no, your suggestion is to plow ahead with layering on this totally immersion breaking, mobile game tactic of boosts, whether for in game or real currency (or both), as if that would be better than just fixing the underlying issue.
What you don’t realize is that the underlying state is what they want. They want you frustrated enough by things that you’re willing to throw a few bucks at the problem to make it go away. And even if it isn’t for cash, the booster gimmick is an engagement trick to keep you playing and take advantage of your “time limited boosters”. More time playing is the next best thing to giving them more money, and indirectly feeds into it.
