There's apparently a "booster" type system in the code. Hopefully not yet another paid system?

Not mine, saw this reddit thread and noticed it wasn’t posted here.

Could be an interesting system, however as people in the comments are pointing out:

  • Since one of the rewards is more dockets, it seems odd to make it so the currency used to buy boosts would be dockets
  • These kinds of boosts are very commonly used as a paid mechanic in other games.

So…is yet another paid mechanic on the horizon? I don’t want this to be fearmongering, but it’s not looking good. If it’s still being discussed internally, I’d like to least express to the devs that I would be officially done and never touching this game again if it has paid boosts, as that would be Pay To Win mechanics, in an already paid game. In fact, I would never purchase another Fatshark game again. I’m already pissed at the 100+ paid cosmetic leak, but this would just be on a different level though.

Also note that this information is collected from the game legally, and is not a leak since it’s accessible information that’s available in the current game. If this is shut down regardless, make your way to the reddit thread where (hopefully) discussion about this potential issue will not be censored.

Yeah, sounds like loot/currency boosters seen in other games. Really starting to hate FS.

Considering how it seems nearly identical to paid boost sytems in other games, it’s hard to assume that this will be anything different.

I very much hope however that it’s not the case. The game is already sitting at 51% on steam, I can’t imagine how this wouldn’t be a deathblow and I hope the project managers at FS can recognize that.

Hopefully they’ll change course with all the bad press, they wouldn’t be the first studio to have to do so. It’s pretty much that or flop at this point.

“No plans to monetize power”, according to statements on this forum. This system seems like the statement is very deliberately chosen, as this is not monetizing power, it’d be monetizing progress if implemented the way it looks.
Can’t say I’m surprised, but this is even more shady than the things they’ve done before. Provided it ends up the way we expect it to be.
Says something about this company that there is so many people not giving them the benefit of the doubt on this. Maybe they should really rethink the way they are communicating.
Also:

The higher ups don’t care. They’ve thrown this game out for the christmas holiday and are aiming at the whales. They got what they wanted out of it. Reviews don’t matter, people like you and me don’t matter. The people buying every single cosmetic do. The people paying extra for special editions do. The days where word of mouth and reviews really mattered are over.
I mean look at the way the CMs are allowed to communicate. They have to pick and choose what to respond to, and choose the most carefully worded statements. If the higher ups truly cared, there would have been either another delay before release or something to calm the waves. This game isn’t intended to be fun, it’s intended to be as addictive and manipulative as possible. Maybe later down the line they’ll realize there’s some more money to be made by improving it and maybe then we’ll see some improvement, but right now, the only thing we can expect is more monetization schemes and more anti-consumer decisions.

I agree. I just didn’t see it posted here so thought I’d share since it seems like this will be a pretty significant game feature in the future.

I also thought I’d share my concern for it to be a PtW system like it is for many other games, so…hoping to hear some good news addressing this.

I was wondering what the vendor across from Melk was for. Looking like that’s going to be our “boon vendor”.

If this is another real-money store, I’m done.

Technically it wouldn’t be “pay to win” (based on the examples of boon effects in the reddit thread), it’d be “pay to progress faster”.

The “design intent” behind separate inventories and the like is becoming clearer.

Good move posting it here though!
On one hand it could be good if we can spend ordo dockets to boost our mission results. On the other hand… if it cost aquilas lol…

I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a new p2p edition with similar combat but crafting closer to VT2 (that you have to pay full price for) if the live service dedicated server version tanks.

Yeah, I’m hoping for Dockets too. It would be a little weird since apparently one of the rewards is more dockets? But I could see that working, basically gamble to earn more. Spend…500 to earn a lot more back or something, idk.

I’m really hoping it’s also not Melkbucks because his quests suck and I don’t feel like completing them for every character so I can get boosts for them if I feel like playing something different. This would be yet again another reason why shared inventory imo is a must.

Not calling it Pay to win is fair, but…still feels like sh-t imo.

Honestly if they wanted to regain a lot of good will to recover from everyone being pissed at the 100+ leaked paid cosmetics, make it so you can earn some aquillas. That would actually kinda make it feel reasonable (I’m still against the use of aquillas as a whole but it would definitely be a good first step)

Edit: I know that this definitely won’t happen but I can dream, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh for sure.

Like I said, the “design intent” is becoming clear. They siloed character progression so that they could add stuff like this. At this early stage I strongly suspect that these boosters will be purchased with aquilas.

I’m just hoping that there’s a shred of them still actually caring about the fanbase to be able to read that this will go badly if it’s yet another use for aquillas and adjust accordingly. I genuinely would never buy another fatshark game if they did that after being so tonedeaf to the backlash against both the current cash shop, and the 100+ paid cosmetic leak.

Why would I support a company that has devolved to this degree of corporate greed and doesn’t care about me at all.

Hopefully its xp boost, that is purshaseable with in game currency (theres nothing to do with it)

Man you guys are quick to hit the alarm, i swear to god i am gonna take it from you if you dno’t stop accelerating me for no reason.

It is really beginning to feel like this is just an MTX machine and I’m not interested in supporting that.

Frankly, the siloed progress already has me on my last legs with this game. I actually enjoy the leveling process, but the resources and gear being separate is a serious fun killer. If it turns out that they really did do that just so they could sell stuff like boosters for real money…

The dots are being connected and the picture that’s appearing is not one that people find attractive.

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck…Again I’m really hopeful it’s not, but I think people have a right to express concern when monetization has clearly taken a pretty large role in Darktide’s design intent by making basically every cosmetic (100+) paid.

This. I like how everyone immediately assumes the worst. We have no idea when or if this system will be implemented and, if so, what it is or how it works.

No one has assumed the worst - everyone has basically said “if it’s true” - and I think it’s fair and valid to express that concern because the track records of other boost systems is that they are mtx.

I would be thrilled to be proven wrong. But if atm, they’re on the fence about how they want to handle it, then they need to see that people would be dissatisfied if it was paid. It’s pretty much the only thing we can do. If they’ve already decided that it’s going to be a mtx feature then we’re just talking to the wind - and I’m just going to leave. If it’s already planned to not be a mtx, then at least they see that people would be upset if it were and would (hopefully) make them consider that on future mechanics.

I am trying to not be an alarmist nor fearmongering - I said so in my initial post. But I am trying to raise awareness so people can discuss in this discussion board how they feel about the potential upcoming situation.

That’s true, it’s possible that it’s as benign as just being a scrapped feature that just hasn’t been cleaned up properly. It’s also possible that it’s purchaseable with in-game currencies.

However, selling paid boosters does fit in pretty well with the rest of the game’s progression design (as we currently understand it) and it isn’t unheard of for developers to sell such things for real money, so it’s also possible that this is exactly what they intend to do.
