Tbf even if they did face sliders I would imagine theyd look like something from elden ring, heck the current faces look like something made in a souls game. Fromsoft have a gift with sliders where getting something decent looking was an achievement in itself.

there have been a few in stories. But GW don’t make them into models so they can’t be put in anything, because GW hates fun.

I’m going to start a ‘People of Walmart’ style thread so everyone can post the most grimdark, shave-your-dog’s-butt-and-teach-him-to-walk-backwards rejects they come across.

This is perhaps the single most vapid and out of touch thread on this forum and likely the least of anyone’s concerns given that the game is barely coming into early access (oh, wait, I mean launched in such a state of disarray one could excuse them if they had actually launched in early access).

How often are you ogling your character to even really care? If you don’t like how homely (that’s putting it generously) everyone is, maybe lean into the grotesque. Scar and tat 'em up!

The only thing I bemoan about this is that we don’t have ENOUGH scarring options. MoAR scars and tattoos! Give us some body scarring, too.

The character faces are arguably BEAUTIFUL (in their hideousness because lets face it: yeesh some of 'em lived a really hard life and got pummeled every day of it) compared to the boring symmetrical smooth pristine faces you see in so many games allowing customization. They feel… worn down by the grim darkness of the 41st millennium.

I would find this more persuasive if deep in my heart I didn’t suspect that all the female characters are guys trying to make sexy female characters.

tbh I don’t really care that much if the face choices we get are conventionally attractive or not, especially considering what kind of people we’re playing in Darktide, but this is the sticking point for me.

All this talk about in depth character creation and we get some background choices that as far as I can tell effect literally nothing besides the color of your prison jumpsuit and one voice type for sharpshooters, and a character creator that would seem dated and restrictive if the game launched five years ago. This flat out does not make up for the loss of personality that comes from having a well written cast of characters. DT characters don’t even seem to speak half as much as the Ubersreik Five did despite FS boasting about how they recorded hundreds of thousands of lines of dialogue.

Sure would be cool if those background choices we made during character creation effected some of the character’s dialogue, or anything really.

Cue coping weirdos.

Um, even if (though my wife chose the same face as everyone for female becasue quoting her “I don’t play fantasy games to be ugly if I can choose how I look lol”): why does it matter? It’s their character, people like to look with satisfaction on their in-game characters…

Also It’s just a matter of aesthetics. Everyone, both male and females prefer to look or even speak with attractive people, from both gender. Google it, the researches show it. So obviously in games where people can chose their faces majority will choose attractive ones, following the obvious conclusion “if you could choose to be attractive or ugly, what would you choose?”. Researches were made but this is kind of obvious, right? Vast majority prefer to be pretty, not ugly. That’s natural.

Now I have nothing against people wanting to roleplay scarred florida female drug addict with 16 year old overmuscled teenage body with old human head attached. Fine. But I also think if people want to play attractive characters: they also should have options to made them. That’s why full character creators like BG3, GW2, Elder Scrolls, Elden Ring etc. are best as everyone can make their character their own.

There is absolutely no argument in 40k universe supporting that suddenly everyone are ugly. There are tons of offical art and book female characters being very attractive and pretty and having 5.25 Quadrillion humans gives very big gene pool to produce same % of ugly or pretty people as in our world.

So I belive if someone says there shouldn’t be attractive/pretty options or there shouldn’t be ugly/unatractive options: either way they are self-centred, egoistical and thinking they are moraly superior, while showing childlish entitled behaviour (so popular nowadays…).

I believe in choice and if game goes as far as give us character creator, give all kinds of people option to create their avatar. Or just give us premade characters and nobody will complain. Vermintide 1 and 2 did well with pre-mades so that’s always an option.

I always assume that people upset about there being no pretty/handsome options are just uggos upset that they can’t engage in escapism.

Video Games were and always will be escapism. Don’t say stuff like that like you are standing on some higher morally superior pedestal when delivering your speech. You are engaging in escapism by playing video games same as every other gamer. There are no different type of gamers, everyone who play video games are just the same, people that prefer to spend free time in imaginary worlds instead of real one.

Ugly characters or not.

It’s good they have diverse options, and perhaps thematically-driven, but it is quite the social experiment. It would be interesting to see a percentage breakdown chart of which character customizations were chosen. I have a feeling there would be a few big slices and a bunch of small(er) slices for the female choices.

Lol

It doesn’t. Which begs the question, why did you post a love letter about it to me? lol
