Agreed, it is ridiculously overpowered. After I got my power sword on my Vet, I put away the gun and melee’d everything to death. With 250+ toughness and everything in melee dying within two attacks, I’m pretty much invincible and can kill anything. Whole hordes are dead with 1 charge and 3 well-timed swings.
I agree the evis is good. I like the Evis, I think it should be a little stronger and I don’t liek the rev as a mechanic, it doesn’t fit the lore and it doesn’t make sense.
Now, I can come up with a number of systems for the chainsword that would make sense, actually went on to the point I wrote a small library of musing about chain weapons as a concept here:
But it’s really quite likely that I find the idea of thinking about how the things should work much more interesting then anyone else does.
That said, the reason chainsaws would make lousy weapons is they cut slowly. Machines designed to cut meat and bone work well and cut very fast, but mostly exist in the hands of butchers as ranged is IRL superior to melee in almost every respect now that repeating firearms exist. Post-muzzle loader, the sword was obsolete, even if the cavalry troops of the world wouldn’t admit it until 1930.
Still, to be a ‘good weapon’ for melee, you need to be fast in and out of the attack. The maul (medieval sledge hammer) was occasionally used as a weapon but was never intended as one. Intended as a tool.
So the stunlock of the chainsword would only make sense if you were yourself in full power armor and could shrug off a few hits.
Additionally, in most of the lore, the chainsword isn’t used like a chainsaw, except maybe between good and bad space marines in their armor, as they can ignore so many lighter threats.
Mostly it’s used like a regular sword against anything but heavy armor. The 1h feels simultaneously clunky but without the hard hit it ought to have if it’s clunky. It sort of feels like using plastic lawn furniture as a weapon. It’s awkward but not heavy enough to clunk with… and the axe just feels silly.
That said, I’d like to get my hands on the 2H axe the maulers have.
I think you should read more 40k books if you think melee is not effective.
The chain swords are not really practical but melee is used all the time since you got a lot of close quarters ship fighting, trench fighting and hive city’s.
Also the fact the armour on some units are so powerful you need heavy range weapons to do anything to them like tank busters so chain weapons and power weapons are for that.
Also demons are near invincible to range attacks but take damage in melee since that’s how you get all the fights with blood thrusters getting orbital bombarded and losing maybe a wing then taken out by a dude with a glowing sword.
I said IRL.
Its not entirely true. It depends what enemies you are facing.
If you have Crushers you cant swing 3 times with Power activated. It will loose the powerfield after 2 swings!
If they have Carapace it wont
At least i noticed this many times
I totally disagree with the power sword being OP. It is good, yes, just like a power sword should be. I would rather have the devs buff eviscerator and thunder hammer.
also: wait for the other Weapons.
Ogryn receives his Power Maul this Week or so.
Zealots 2H Power Sword was part of the leaked list.
because they dont fall into that appeal to elitist gatekeeping fallacy. the extremes of balance are where its present the least not most, the first and last difficulties are both fudged. the easy one is deliberately broken and so is the hardest. as you push out from the intended design in either direction you see more and more aberrations crop up, you start to see odd behaviour in hits to kill thresholds, cleave capabilities etc . entire methods of play collpase and difficulty specific methods become nescessary. its always at best a semi functional mess.
you would have to ask teh devs but i think they aimed the sweet spot for balance inbetween 2 and 3 with 4 still being good. 1 and 5 are hopefully functional.
we had this through the entire of vermintide 100% of the forum posters going on about having to play cata to see “real” balance and then we get stats from fastshark and under 0.5% of games wasnt it? that are actually played at that level. damnation isnt the point its tiny minority interest.
show me the games that are balanced around the top end, not even esport games like Starcraft were , closest i can think of is morhau and look how fast that killed it.
yet you can play Damnation just fine without full Orange or without the Power Sword.
you can play it with a grey weapon no curios no feats and 3 bots. but possible does not mean balanced
and personal skill doesnt negate balance.
balance is about relative performance in this case weapons at acheving the games tasks, in this case interacting with the enemy.
Power Sword has a lot of offense, but trash defense.
It has a negative Dodge Distance, no other Melee Weapon has that.
It has 3 Stamina, only the Knife is lower at 1
Even a Max Rolled Power Sword can not onehit kill a Horde Enemy all the Time.
Balance should never outclass Skill. If you balance all Weapons to be a walk in the park at Damnation, then all the other Difficulty Levels become meaningless. And yeah, even a Power Sword wont help you without Skill.
And as i said: Just wait for the full Weapon List. Zealot had a 2h Sword leaked. And for some reason it is mostly Zealots who complain that they dont have a Power Sword.
Every Ogryn’s melee weapon has negative dodge distance, -12 to -8 on shovel, -20 to -10 on shield, and -15 to -5 on rest of them.
Every 2h melee weapons have negative dodge distance, -20 to -10 on Thunder hammer, and Eviscerator.
Sorry, i meant that no other Veteran Melee Weapons has this.
Both Ogryn and Zealot are Melee focused and have a lot more survivability there. Ogryn can treat every Melee Weapon as a “Power Weapon” due to the unlimited Cleave Feat.
And as i said, if Zealot receives the 2h Power Sword, every class except for Psyker will have access to such a Cleave-Weapon.
well understandable really they are told they are melee specialists its going to be them that it annoys the most, myself i play both and ogre not sure if zeal or vet my fave yet
y’all really discussing about a powerful weapon while the game has more than a dozen other problems.
get the f out of here
Hey do you know offhand if the dodge on those is the same as the 2h axe/hammer in verm?
Because I used to managed hordes with a sort of box step and seems like it still works. Forward, heavy, side, heavy, back. (Bardin’s 2h axe)
Chainaxe has -20 to -10 dodge distance too, so Vet has negative distance weapon too.
Ogryn has good cleave weapon in general, that’s for sure, he doesn’t need that feat. His unlimited cleave feat is the weakest one in that line, it has longer wind-up time than power sword activation. It has situational use (2Bulwark, and 2Crusher situation), but I think Ogryn should rather use his Rumbler instead of that situation. Most of his weapon doesn’t have horizontal arc on first heavy attack, you should do light attack first. It has longer wind-up time, so it’s harder than using power sword. Just normal light attack, or heavy attack’s cleave is okay in most of case.
And every class can access cleave weapon. Combat, and tactical axe have weak-spot kill blessing, 2nd target damage is weaker than most cleave weapon though, but first target damage is very strong, tactical axe has mobility and crit chance, combat axe has better dps than Eviscerator. And weak-spot kill is consistent one, if someone can’t head-shot kill with them, then player should practice (Rashad combat axe has hitbox bug now, so you should use Antax now, the last one has no good arc for cleave too)
Devil claw has good cleave too itself, you can even enhance your cleave, and power from blessing. if devil claw has horizontal heavy attack, you can slice them up like Ogryn cleaver too (it has slightly weaker attack damage compared to Ogryn’s cleaver light attack).
The problem of cleave weapon is most of them are weaker than Power-sword damage-wise. Power sword itself has slightly weaker than Devilclaw when power is down. I won’t tell when power is on, since everybody in this discussion knows it. Damage, cleave-wise it’s the most versatile weapon for sure with heavy dodge penalty.
I am not sure Power sword deserves nerf or not, since I don’t play Vet in Damnation difficulty, my Vet has low level and under geared.
Do you mean difference between good dodge weapon and 2h weapon in Vermintide2? If I am not wrong. 2h weapons have 0% dodge bonus, 1h has 15~35% dodge bonus in Vermintide 2.
Dodge-wise I feel clunky compared to Vermintide 2 in this game, I am not sure why.
I quit V2 long ago, came back from time to time, but rarely stayed. I started with V1, mained Salty, then when he got old, Bardin. Same in V2, though I started with Kruber more for that Halberd.
One of my favorite weapons was the 2H axe. Hammer had more stagger but the axe did more killing. Using the powersword feels most like that axe. Low mobility, but a lot of cleave and damage. Except I have to sometimes use the sword low power until I can make the room to turn it on.
Sounds like your data is the 2h were at zero in V2, and under that in Darktide. ?
I don’t know what it means but,
Eviscerator, and Thunder hammer are 2h weapon. Both have -20%to -10% dodge distance. The best dodge weapon combat blade has 5 to 15% dodge distance. If both weapons have the most dodge distance, there’s 25% offhand. Which is same difference of 2h weapon and dual axes of in Vermintide 2
But I don’t know basic dodge range is same in Darktide. So negative dodge can be more harsh or forgivable in Darktide.
