The special attack can swing 3 times with one charge.
When swinging, ignore hit mass and deal strong damage.
This makes Veteran the most powerful at long and short range, and the best class with the most HP.
Itâs very powerful, to be sure- but Iâd rather see other melee weapons buffed to its power level, notably the eviscerator and thunder hammer. The power sword is powerful, sure, but itâs also really fun. I say, let the other classes have fun too.
While I wrote in another thread that I would like to see the power sword gone (for the Sharpshooter, a later subclass could get it), I have to admit after trying it out a lot, that it IS powerful, but not too powerful.
It is a daemon against trash, but needs some hits for heavies. I found the Eviscerator on the Preacher better overall, so I think it is in a rather good spot really.
Regarding some of the blessings some tweaks would work I suppose, but better to let it be as to nerf it.
Overall I would rather buff the other melee weapons, so they can shine more.
Everybody has horde clearing weapon. Power Sword is vets. It has crappy defense stats. See you next thread.
who else has a weapon that will kill a crusher 3 maulers 4 ragers and 20 horde at the same time?
it so clear i dont see how the debate exists if you play with all the weapons its obv the power sword is simply broken
i get people want to keep this but it breaks the game so its going to get balanced and its going to hurt . they cant go through and buff every other weapon to its level that just makes all melee weapons break the game thats just not good sense.
We will see this Power Sword on Vet posts many more times. And most of them are grief posts from clerics and psyker players. Because THEY want it to be on them exclusively. Like it would require any skill to wield a sword that charges up with its integrated power cell.
But while there are so many posts saying that Vet should not be able to melt down hordes in melee, the same clerics and Psykers wield marksmen rifles and shoot enemies far away.
And every Vet would give away that sword asap. But the melee focus of DT won`t let us use our boom sticks. Every time you really want and have to shoot some important to kill special enemy, there will be a crawler melee mob in the corner right behind you. And there it will wait for the exact moment, that you pull out that rifle and finish the cocking animation. Then, right then when you want to take aim, it will smash you in the back so you have to switch back to melee again.
And then there are also players with LV < 30, that see LV 30 Vets with 499+ relic Power Swords, running difficulty 1 maps for mats or weekly missions. And they somehow think that their green Axe should be stronger than that Sword witch stats they donât even know, because they think just because that Veteran Guardsmen has the name addition Sharpshooter, that they should underperform in melee. If so, then Psyker and Cleric should only be able to wield onehanded guns.
Every Class in this game has to be able to get the tasks done. Why should Vets not be able to clear a horde in melee? Should they just leave the mission then, when the rest of the team got trapped or killed and waiting for being rescued?
I think most people complaining donât really understand the way all the moving parts of the classes and gameplay breaks down, so theyâll keep complaining no matter what. Even if they convince Fatshark to nerf the Power Sword, theyâll complain about something else they donât have on their mains next.
The vetâs sword is fine, more then fine, itâs almost a requirement of the class since we need a horde clear.
Donât make a thing out of another class having something good. Instead, ask for fixes to your class.
Psyker has been over nerfed. Force sword should get MASSIVE buffs, should be the most powerful melee weapon in the game and scale off peril, not from a feat but onboard and a big scale.
1H chainsword should be something that isnât trash, and 1H chain axe should be swapped with mauler 2h chain axe.
Zealot should get an advanced class that is easier to run. Zealot can be very powerful but Foot Knght Kruber or iron breaker bardin done 40k style would be much easier for newer players who never ran Homeless Saltzpyre.
When Inqusitor Eisenhorn had to fight a Witchhunter of the Eccisiarchy, ( Arnault Tantalid) he didnât have his proper weapons. Tantalid was in power armor with a relic chainsword and almost killed him, and cut clean through every improvised weapon Eisenhorn could produce. Eventually the Cavalry showed, passed Eisenhorn a force sword, and he cut through the power armor like butter.
Thatâs a zealot with power armor.
Thatâs a force sword defeating power armor.
Power sword is good. Turn it on and leave it on. Turn on and leave on the Thunderhammer, the force sword, and the chain weapons.
Then give the zealots a Arnault Tantalid option and the Psykers a force sword thatâs at least 70% as strong as the one Eisenhorn had, Barbarisater.
If the Sword gets nerfed cause of Fatshark being annoyed enough of the topic repeatedly being posted. Then the next thing they will complain about is that every time a Vet is the last men standing, it is a 100% game over. And that Vet players should switch class.
This XY whatsoever Item is Op tasks are blatantly stupid. Do these Players even realize, that this is not a PVP game? This is not Warhammer Online or WOW. The Classes are playing on the same side not against each other.
So Power Sword is good? Well then be it so.
So Ogryn can Tank a Deamon Host with his Shield, without taking dmg? Well fantastic!
So Psyker can snap a Snipers neck from around the corner by just having to aim at him for 0.1 seconds and without the risk of getting one-shot killed? Niiiiiice!
So Cleric can go Beast mode-attack speed-CC-horde control with the Catachan Knive? Splendid.
I have played every Class now. Vet is atm the most fun Class for me personally. Go on and scream for NERF on it, before the game is even 100% finished or better say bug fixed and standard contend implemented. Go on trying to annoy Fatshark devs enough with the idea that Vet should not be playable in melee anymore. Maybe you will then be happy, when the Ship aka the Lobby of your local area is emptier than before. Be happy to no longer have someone in your team that shows you the position of the special enemies. Maybe you will be happy when 3 Ogryns block your aim sight all time. Or being crushed when a horde and 4 specials come for you from you donât know where.
I have a lvl15ish veteran as my 3rd char after getting a psyker and zealot to 30, and i use a 230 blue chainsword because my 190 grey powersword feels way too OP.
no other melee weapon in the game clears hordes as well as the powersword,
including the eviscerator, and it arguably outperforms the psykerâs hordeclear staffs, purgatus and voidstrike. Perhaps the zealot flamer is one of the few better options for clearing out hordes.
In addition to clearing hordes, though, it also cleaves right through and does heavy damage to crushers, maulers, and armored ragers.
Almost every other melee in the game makes a tradeoff somewhere and I donât see where the powersword does. Itâs too good at dealing with every type of enemy.
Compare to the chainsword, what I believe is supposed to be the melee option with a way to kill everything(it even says âversatileâ above the stat spread, which means the devs intended the chainsword to have a tool for every target type). Itâs heavy attacks cleave 5 or 6 trash enemies i think, its hard to tell in-game. Enough to deal with all but the most dense hordes easily enough. The special attacks, while they do good damage to armored targets, leave you open while dealing that damage. The powersword, on the other hand, cleaves infinite enemies while dealing more damage, cleaves through armor while remaining mobile, and itâs chargeup lasts for multiple swings and hits many, many targets.
Where is the downside to using the powersword? less stamina for blocks? Iâve never blocked once with a powersword because everything dies before it can melee me.
Where is the downside?
I do think that having a good hordeclear melee on veteran rounds out his kit well, but it is not the only thing the powersword is good at. Itâs good at everything, even dealing ridiculous damage to assassination target bosses.
I suggest making the powersword a specialized horde clearing tool by nerfing its armor penetration, making it get âstuckâ in heavy armored targets during a swing, and/or giving the chargeup no bonus damage and only infinite cleave.
I get that this is you exaggerating things, but sheesh what difficulty do you normally play on to even get close to this approximation of how good the weapon is? Its efficiency drops off at higher difficulties in my experience at least.
I prefer a combat knife anyways if im going to be honest, the extra mobility and attack speed just makes it satisfying to use when compared to the power sword.
But like many other posters has pointed out, i would rather they buff other weapons UP to a higher standard rather than nerf things DOWN to a lower standard, since if you keep reducing the baseline you eventually just end up with everything being slightly mediocre.
Thunder hammer is 100% wrong designed anyway. A Thunder hammer has no on off switch in WH40K. It is activated by impact. It should be auto charged all time and powered on hit.
Special ability could then for example be a slam on the ground for an AOE knockback against enemies
having everything be mediocre but with a niche where it excels is called game balance.
I believe the powerswordâs niche should be horde clearing.
You do heresy or damnation on that level 15 veteran? because thats where the drop off starts, not in the easier levels where pretty much every weapon feels overpowered and you can just walk through everything.
The downsides that i have experienced when using it is limited mobility in terms of dodge range, limited dodge count, and the chore of having to power it up all the time. Might be more, but i dont really use the weapon all that much, so i cant really give a super detailed break down.
So much this, I donât understand the race to the top mentality. Understanding how a weapon works and getting competent with it is one of the best parts of this game. Buffing everything so that itâs effective in all situations ruins the complexity and fun of the gameplay.
The Power Swords âânicheââ is being a small range melee weapon.
Its âânicheââ is being the only weapon on Vet that has the possibility to keep him alive in melee situations on difficulties above level 4.
And before you have even reached max level on that vet you have, and tried playing level 4 and 5 difficulties, you should stop complaining about any weapon of him being to powerful.
Because if you ever play him there, you will understand, that you ask for making that class basically unplayable with its currently lacking melee alternative.
itâs almost a requirement of the class since we need a horde clear
Your grenades? Why does Veteran deserve to have a melee weapon that completely invalidates any need for gearing/feats and just works beautifully better than classes that are explicitly going for gearing/feats to perform better in melee?
Zealot should get an advanced class that is easier to run. Zealot can be very powerful but Foot Knght Kruber or iron breaker bardin done 40k style would be much easier for newer players who never ran Homeless Saltzpyre.
Not the problem with Zealot right now by a longshot. Low health build isnât viable not only because of chip damage mechanics making it âhardâ to play, but because the low health build isnât even better than Zealotâs other options.
Weâll see what happens when they add in Ogrynâs melee weapons, and how they compare to power sword and thunder hammer. Thereâs also the possibility of the unreleased 2h power sword coming out, in which case you can keep your tiny version.
and to everyone in this thread who is saying
power sword falls off at higher difficulties
No it doesnât. You can still swing it at head level through a crowd and delete as many heads as it passes through. No other melee weapon can do that, not even the eviscerator.
I donât really like the way the power sword is implemented. It feels cheesy to use. I wanted the power sword as a big dude destroyed but really it just destroys everything. I know most of you need this crutch but as someone who likes to have different builds, I donât like blatantly OP in my games. I feel that the power sword should be a mediocre horde clearer and the chain weapons were the ones with the unlimited cleave. With the power sword in the game, I canât see any reason to take any axes, even though I love the tactical axe I canât realistically say itâs good when the power sword exists. The game is perfectly manageable with many other melee weapons, like combat knife and tactical axe, Idk why we gotta buff all the other weapons because people are bad.
Major disagree. At a minimum the cleave (regardless of the target quantity or armor quality) is insanely good and needs to get knocked down a few rungs.
Great point about the grenades. Whenever you feel overwhelmed with Vet, just toss a grenade or two at your feet and suddenly you have breathing room. Those grenades by themselves is better than the Psykerâs entire kit (BB and Warp Charges) with no hyperbole.
