The game cannot be closed

Issue Type (Required):

Other

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

Yes, but I haven’t tried disabling them

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

[PC] Crash Report (Optional):

After exiting the game, the Steam page always shows the game as still running. Manually clicking “Stop” only results in a prolonged “Stopping” status, and the game never fully closes. No game process can be found in the Task Manager, and the only way to resolve this is to restart the computer.

Not sure how this would translate, but look in your other processes (below the open programs) for something like ‘Crash Reporter’. Ending that should close the game.

Take a look at task manager. Kill processes. There’s also always alt+f4

Shot in the dark, but does the issue persist after verifying game files?

https://support.fatshark.se/hc/en-us/articles/360021233534--PC-How-to-Verify-Integrity-of-Game-Files-via-Steam

time to alt f4 or try kill the process in the task manager

but if it happens everytime it’s weird

this is apparently a bug with steam itself, and is typically resolved after an update. instead of restarting your computer, you can usually just kill Steam via task manager/system monitor instead (if you want an easier workaround than going into task manager every time, i recommend SuperF4 if task manager doesn’t want to do the job properly)

There is no Darktide process in the Task Manager.

There is no Darktide process in the Task Manager. Even if I close Steam through the Task Manager and reopen it, Steam still shows that Darktide is in the process of being closed

It doesn’t work. Performing this operation shows that the game is still running

That’s really odd, if you’re killing Steam via Task Manager and it still shows that Darktide is running after you restart it, you could have corrupted files somewhere within Steam itself. If that didn’t work, the only other thing I can think of trying is clearing out your download cache within Steam. Sorry that the prior solutions haven’t worked.

Kill all steam processes. If that works @cathis is probably right. You can also check event viewer to see what’s going on around that time it’s doing that. Or get a procmon capture. But if killing steam works I would try validating steam, reinstalling. If that doesn’t work run an sfc /scannow. Update windows, run a chkdsk. Then I would go log diving.
