Honourable mention RIP for the ORIGINAL crafting system. Where blessings could be combined and whatever else it had:
“Darktide’s crafting system isn’t quite ready because Fatshark ‘ripped it out and started over’ mid-development”
“We had another crafting system that we realized just wasn’t good enough.”
“Victor Magnuson, Fatshark’s head of design, detailed why the crafting system wasn’t ready for launch: it needed a redo.”
We had another crafting system that we realized just wasn’t good enough," he said. "So we ripped it out and started over, and created a completely new crafting system which will be much much better. When we took that decision, it was not a happy day in the office. But we felt that we had to do it.
If we release a system and it’s in there and people are using it, it’s really, really hard to rip that system out and replace it with another system," Magnuson said. "People have already invested in the previous system. And from a backend perspective it’s going to be a nightmare. From the player experience, it’s going to be really bad. So if we released the game with a borked crafting system and decided we needed to redo it, that’s major surgery, and we don’t want to do that. It was a really tough call, but I think in the end players will agree it was the right call. Of course, they’re never going to know how bad the original crafting system was, but it wasn’t as good as this one
" Combine Blessings
At the Shrine you may choose to combine three Votive Offerings into a single upgraded Votive Offering. Currently, most Votive Offerings have a maximum Tier of IV, but there are some exceptions to this. We’re testing a few different options with the requirements and the results of combining these Votive Offerings."
"We also hope this blog gives you a glimpse of the broader crafting system(s) and the depth of customising your weaponry and loadout for the perfect playstyle you wish to engage with. At the heart of this is the Blessing extraction and Re-Blessing functionality, where you can collect and swap out Blessings in order to customise the different combination of weapons you wish to experiment with.
We have learned a lot from our previous choices and gameplay surrounding crafting offered within the Vermintide series. For Darktide we wanted to take those lessons to expand and improve in such a way that crafting would become a central pillar of player progression, while giving more impact and agency to you, the player in your preferred playstyle.
The nature of randomization and repetitive actions sometimes seen within crafting is something that we are steering to avoid in the crafting system within Darktide. Meaningful choices will be made with strategy and goals behind them, as you set your eyes upon that perfect combination of melee and ranged weapons for your class."
emphasis mine.
my voice is only loud because the game & developers mean too much to me to just walk away!
I’m not angry, just disappointed.

Thanks brothers.
Together we stand.

It’s quite something that you took the time to make something like this, but I stand with you, brother. I remember when I saw the announcements, or just the Steam page for Darktide and I lost my sith thinking this would be it…

Hopefully eventually there will be light at the end of the tunnel, but until then, i pray with the rest of you.
Honestly for me this is a non-issue. While I want the iconic weapons to be good, they don’t need to be fully “lore accurate.” Darktide isn’t a 40k sim game, it’s a somewhat gamey horde shooter. If weapons were “lore accurate” we would all be getting 1 or 2 shot and the Ogryn would be ripped in half by the Hot Shot volley gunner. Comprises have to be made to make a fun and playable gameplay experience.
This is coming from a lore nerd, if that changes anything.
And who do we have here? Mr. Grumpy, The Destroyer of Fun and Vanquisher of Children Smiles.
Let’s stick to hating RNG, before we will rip each other about what DT should and shouldn’t be.
This is a place of mourning for the fallen, hatred and anger aimed at Traitors and Heretics.
Let’s leave it at that.
This thread made me giggle. Good job!
I still exist here, just dont really engage. Whats the point …

Locks are heresy! #breakTheLocks
I’ve just been saving plasteel for whenever they finally tune up crafting.
should we redo the “mostly negative” review on steam to be heard?
why should we act in a bad way to get attention. fighting fire with fire seems only working method.
Yeah this game in no way deserves a positive review. The actively hateful design of absolutely every system is horrific.
In the 41st millennium’s rare time,
Crafting is essential to the climb.
But Fat Shark’s locks cause pain and woe,
Blessings and perks hidden, our progress slow.
With patience and might, we craft on,
Hoping that victory will soon dawn.
For in the end, our triumphs will be pure,
But Fat Shark’s hold on us we must not endure.

It’s worth mentioning that we have 284 people just on the forums who have spoken out against RNG/crafting which is 5% of the total concurrent players in terms of numbers (as a comparison, obviously not all of us are playing). Imagine how many more people are upset that aren’t speaking out specifically in the forums? Especially with reviews middling around ~51-55% positive.
This thread is monumental and a herculean effort to shine a light on this issue.
Couple of follow-up questions:
#1 - was there something specific that happened to inspire this thread now or just a general growing frustration with things?
#2 - if crafting doesn’t change anytime soon, the key opportunity we have to pressure Fatshark is ahead of the console release. Is it worth finding avenues (e.g. popular gaming websites ::shudder:: ?) to inform and raise a stink about so that potential console buyers are aware of what they might be stepping into?
Just a thought…
I had this idea in my head that around the 1 year mark of Darktide being released, if crafting wasn’t “fixed” I was going to post something like this as a post mortem. If it was fixed, I was going to do something like this as a celebration for everyone’s hard work and thanks to raise awareness. So I just just started a word doc and trying to write people’s usernames for who seemed to have similar grievances around the crafting aspect of the game specifically (there are other issues but wanted to focus on one so it’s easier to potentially get FS to zero in on it and not muddy the waters). And as I looked at topics and people’s names and seeing how many likes some topics got I just thought… maybe its more meaningful/impactful now, and I will update it as long as I can, and for as long as it’s active. Adding names/topics as I see them.
I am not the most adept at social media and stuff but yes, aside from trying to complain outside the forums on things like steam and reddit, getting things like pc gamer to notice, or youtube reviewers with large followings would be the next thing… there’s also change.org. And as I linked above the “crafting” update on what to expect and the PC gamer interview with lead designer “Victor Magnuson” we could talk about how the market was misleading and that people were tricked into buying a product that was SUPPOSED to be one way but actually another. If you look at all the language around the interview and first insight into crafting; player agency, avoiding repetition and RNG, allowing players to experiment and chase “perfect” play styles, etc. are obviously not what we have today. We can say this product is antithetical to those mission statements/goals with how atrocious the odds are. Honestly akin to the anti-gambling laws and loot boxes. People assume they have even odds of rolling every face on a 20 sided die. When you have things that secretly weigh things against the players favor, and don’t make those statistics public, it can be seen as predatory. Maybe something there in terms of lawsuits in terms of false advertising.
