Ghost of Tsushima.

Ignore everything else in your list and get this.

The puzzles are incredibly addicting.

I bought the first. Fun for a few hours, but very same-y after a while. Especially the “time recording” bit. No spoilers, but… do the humans come back alive? No. Sigh. Nm.

If you liked Talos btw, and you’re at least impartial to cats, then Stray is a good buy. I really enjoyed it.

I liked the talos games for the themes of philosophy and defying God.

The second is much more varied in terms of puzzle mechanics imo.

I’m a cat owner, yes, but stray bored me to death to be honest.

What absolute tosh.

First of all, the dice rolls are there for the chance of action succeeding, and different armies have different weapons, bonus’s, points cost or abilities that increase your chance of success, it reflects the fact than in real life, not all shots will hit and not all shots will go through armour, so it’s a chance of mechanic. One that leaves you with the ability to heavily influence the chance of outcomes and allowing to implement tactics and strategies.

Whereas, Darktide crafting is a roulette wheel heavily stacked against you as reward system for your time and effort. From rewards to actual purchases it’s gambling of the worst kind. You can not influence it, it burns for your resources and dockets and this is no way to treat a player for giving their time to play your game.

It’s fundamental wrong to compare the two as one reflects the chances of hitting and wounding enemies from a hail of shots.

The other is a reward system, crafting system that has no place being RNG.

If you can’t tell the difference between two, then you shouldn’t be debating such points.

I agree with what you’re saying.

It is worth noting though:

If you’re going to argue the mechanics for one (DT) and what the mechanic represents (boardgame) your argument needs to be the same on both fronts.

So if we’re going to argue for mechanical representation as you did for the boardgame, DT reflects the chances of finding the weapons you want through salvaging and tuning the weapon up to unleash its full potential given the usage its seen. Weapons operate differently given repeated usage or damage and this is reflected in the stats it brings forth from the roll. Your familiarity with the weapon and what you’ve seen of its potential is reflected by the blessings you have at your disposal. Perks are standard modifications that would be seen as universal know-how to change the behavior of the weapon. Use your imagination - like doing more damage to flak armored is like changing the ammunition type to FMJ. All the perks are the would-be attachments.

I think the system that’s in place effectively executes what’s reflected in the Lore of the game. Are there other ways to do this while maintaining the “Work with what you’ve got” pathos? More than likely. But… We work with what we’ve got

Honestly been splitting time between Zomboid, Helldivers and Abiotic Factor.

Been wanting to play Abiotic but need friends to be on at the same time.

Hard to recommend you anything since I don’t know what you were playing.

I snatched ME: Legendary Edition from Steam on 90% discount so I beat whole trilogy with mods again (135 hours total).

I beat BG3 4th time and taking a break. But obviously can only recommend.

I tried Ghost of Tsushima but it bored me with the Open World. I recommend giving it a try (free try, wink wink) and decide if you want to buy it.

I am considering beating Elden Ring again becasue DLC is coming soon. But I played that game so much when it came out I am kind of trying to force myself back.

Thinking also of coming back to FFXIV after break from last expansion since new expansion is coming in July.

But I am in simillar boat as you. I don’t really have anything to play now. I am playing every new game that interest me since I was like 10 years old so I am never “behind”. Which bites me in the ass when there is nothing new coming out that interest me.

V Rising if you like survivals. I hate survival games so it’s not for me. But I heard from my friends who like those that it’s a really good game.

I just hope that when revising itemisation Fatshark hasn’t forgotten about the Emperor’s “gifts”. Probably the biggest joke of the player reward / progression systems:

Hey, after enormous amounts of time passed, The Emperor gave me Cycler 4. Like two hours before they nerfed it and came out with Cycler 3, but hey.

One out of a thousand gifts gave some something I was actually looking for. Gotta love that RNG!

I personally recommend Enderal. It’s a mod to Skryim but it’s actually fun to play. It reworks mechanics, adds an interesting story, and is pretty well designed from a systems stand point. What I liked the most about Enderal is that it felt more like an RPG than Skyrim. Though you do need a bunch of mods to make the gameplay not feel like janky Skyrim. I don’t remember my modlist but these were the main mods I used which made the first person combat feel responsive and fun:

I’ve been playing through Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak. Starting over since I had Rise on the Switch before. I’m going charge blade and it’s certainly a weapon.

The picture looks like something from a factory automation game… I approve.

In terms of player retention tactics… obviously VT2 just got more of a content drop than DT did for the skulls event but… despite being an older game with a less popular IP VT2 still has similar player numbers. And yet, doesn’t have the same retention tactics such as rotating premium cosmetics and rotating stores and heavy RNG in loot. Especially now with red dust from chaos waste expeditions.

The amount of autism required to create that flowchart… beautiful.

They added that? Neat. That would have really helped me when I was completing my red weapons collection on each character… 3 years ago.

I totally want to meet the person who designed the charge blade, shake their hand and then also ask what drugs they were on when they designed it.

The answer to all your questions would simply be ‘Yes.’

the “event” is of so little interest to me I still haven’t even read what it is…

I’m not updating the game either.
