The Crafting Memorial; lest we forget

I am impressed that we are getting the crafting update before the Summer break. I would be remiss to not mention this, and how FS exceeded my expectations in this regard.

As for the content of the changes? Well, we’ll have to wait for the dev blog won’t we?

I’m watching Blight Survival with a keen eye. However from my experience, I feel like a small team that hasn’t made a game before will be unable to fully capitalize on the concept they have. Hoping for the best from them, but not expecting much.

GTFO devs are making Den of Wolves, which is a Cyberpunk-ish heisting game. We don’t know much about the game itself besides lore stuff atm.

For me there are more reasons than just the 40k ip, although it certainly helps a ton.

Incredible gore, engaging gameplay, probably the best in genre melee combat (VT 2 probably has DT beat in this category but for sake of simplicity I’m conflating the 2 together). DT gets a lot wrong but it also has a lot more going in it’s favor other than just the ip.

This is not at all clear to me from the announcement, and I’m not convinced crafting is coming before Q3/Q4.

Doesn’t this flat out state the itemization is part of the update on June 25th? As in, “it’s part of it but we’re still working on it”? If not then they should probably rephrase that

Seems the salient part to me. WIP, not explicitly stated as being done. Feel free to set your expectations wherever on the bar you like. For me, I think there’s no chance crafting is coming with this update, although I think it’s reasonable to assume it was meant to and may come with a 2nd half to this story beat.

The itemization part of the update. What does “the update” refer to? Clearly the one being described that releases on June 25th no?

It’s not that I’m setting the expectations, they are. They flat out state that itemization will be a part of the update on June 25th. There’s only one way to read that.

If that’s not what it actually means they’ll get some pretty heavy justified backlash

That is very much the impression I got, and still seems to be that way from the quote Kambrin posted.

If FS manages to throw my compliment right back in my face I will be thoroughly impressed. And very depressed. It will additionally make the event system they added with skulls look even more pathetic than it does at the moment (even if it has potential etc etc).

I see what you are saying and agree it’s at best confusing, but I would point again to the “we are still working on” bit.

From their last statement they’ll only seek to minimise RNG, but not remove it entirely.

The last time they “minimised” was by introducing flexible 2 locks between blessings and perks. Didn’t feel very flexible as the player count barely moved. Biggest spike was when they introduced skill tree then fell off again. That’s what they gave after 1.5 years to date so far.

Lets say 1 lock instead or some other play on it. The random nature will remain to a certain degree. I bet a minimised random yet still can’t control outcome.

As someone mentioned earlier in tabletop was not pure RNG with dice. The positioning of the units and unit match up to enemy units helped to compliment the dice roll, so skill dependent alongside RNG at least.

Will we be just pulling the slot machine lever and watching results again…with no influence or control on outcome.

This was just someone trying to argue why people should like RNG or be used to it. It presumes much. That everyone who plays darktide also played the table top games. And that the RNG implementations are the same or similar enough… Which I disagree with on both fronts, almost to an absurd capacity.

But yeah. It could easily be just a further RNG mitigation that doesn’t change much.

IF I had to guess though, I THINK and entirely speculate since it seems they have spent more time on it I think they’re making a “bigger” change. Even the recent change to Vermintide 2 gives hope since you can get explicitly red dust from weekly expeditions in chaos wastes.

They still haven’t implemented some way to get modifiers past 80%. I imagine they are probably looking at implementing that in some way. And a weekly task to get a guaranteed weapon with no locks or RNG makes sense to me. There’s only 52 weeks in a year and currently 65 weapons with more to come. I think it’s fine if they did something like they recently did with VT2. And don’t lock the weekly behind difficulties players aren’t ready for.

But with 535 people who have shared the sentiment  Even you to an extent, you just want there to be a “better way” than just lock removal which a lot of folks also want. Lock removal is just a bare minimum.

Honestly lock removal should have been the bandaid they could have released a few months ago with a comment along the lines of:

“We understand your pain with the crafting system. We’re working on an overhaul of the itemization process but it takes some time. So in the mean time we’re lifting the crafting locks. Stay tuned until end of June. Cheers.”

That alone would have gotten so many people back into the game. It’s such a simple win they could have ridden until now.

But instead they went “Mhmm if people have what they want they will stop playing. Better keep them on the treadmill forever. Yeah. That’ll make them engage for ever. Genius” and lost most of their playerbase in the process. GGs Fatshark

Funny enough. That’s what we were all hoping, and yelling for, back then. Such an easy thing that could have actually placated people, myself included. Instead we got that infamous ‘Design Intent’ response.

Really shows you how great these developers are, huh.

The human ego is a hell of a thing. I recommend watching Guy Ritchie’s Revolver on that regard. Fun movie exploring how a brittle ego leads you to all kind of stupid decisions. Not unlike a few design leads we know…

I suspect for same reason the road is so far to get ideal stat and 2x T4 blessing wanted, then 2x Perk wanted.

They don’t want people to reach end quickly, more grind engagement again…Higher chance of skin purchase if in their face more often.

To others in this forum I say:

Funny thing is - There are people that gave up chasing that road are just playing with same weapons for months with millions of dockets unspent. They know time is more important than dockets. Even if could have 100 million dockets and 100 million plasteel - But I simply won’t play crafting clicking UI for 1-2hours to create something ideal, roll, roll, roll. Time more important - Time I’d rather spend actually playing a game.

Crafting process I used to do - It was by having Netflix running on second monitor. Just shows how fun the mechanic is that I wasn’t even focused on it.

As well as playing with a browser plugin. And only starting up the game to buy something worthwhile.

Of course.

But then as I pointed out in the thread I started. A system whereby you collect resources to upgrade all the modifiers, perks, and blessings from a basic same stat would have been a time thing. But one where the player knows exactly where his time is going.

I really have no comprehension as to why they went RNG.

All they have done, is created a toxic feeling amongst players.

If there’s one statistic I want them to consider it’s:

-check players with over 200 hours (or so)
-check how many resources they have
-check what their average weapon rating is in their inventory

My expectation for this would be that it shows people run with suboptimal weapons despite having materials for hundreds if not thousands of crafts.
It’d basically prove that people just give up on the system, not that it keeps them playing

I burned all my crafting mats the last time I was playing attempting to get a halfway decent chain sword… that proved fruitless and a colossal waste of time and resources…

I wish it was true… I have 3/400 hours + and I have no resources as I am burning them all to get blessings I need and wasted on upgraded weapons with junk blessing and perk…

It could possibly be true if a player has got there perfect weapon, running 1 maybe 2 classes and have no need of the crafting system now.
