Of course you can! Probably not a japanese longbow, though, that has two bow arms of equal lengths. The english longbow is somewhere around 2m in length. The japanese longbow is, even though it has one long and one short bow arm, around 2.30m.
The other theory, btw, is that it facilitated shooting from a kneeling position (since the japanese longbow is, as bows are in general, classical infantry weapons that have later been adopted to be used on horseback) so you can have two very close firing squads, with the front row kneeling and the back row firing from a standing position. It would also explain why in modern kyujutsu/kyudo, targets are hung low to simulate shooting at a squatting target.
